  1. 2 weeks but its hard to break the tablet up to the right size for the weight of the dog. I use panacur 10%
  2. Good one. Its getting a bit like that around here now you could be walking fields that someone had lamped 10 minutes earlier
  3. nice one mate, just got in myself. Had one of them come right in as well but the pup needs a bit of work with her retrieving.
  4. I buy big bags of frozen mixed veg from the likes of Tesco and Iceland about £1 for 1-2kg and just throw a handful of it into each dogs meat when i am in a rush or i don't have handy fresh veg (defrosted first, it does not take long to defrost) That way it is easy, clean and cheap. But you can always see the bits of sweetcorn ha ha! Good idea mate might give it a go. Does it work out cheaper. My lurcher eats a pound and half of raw meat, tripe beef lamb etc. and will also eat 2 big scoops of meal if i had to replace the dry with meat and veg i could imagine it becoming quite expensi
  5. All them dogs are probably capable of doin the job if trained to. My uncle used to have german sheps at the scrap yard they were a nightmare, and S pep of this site has a beast of an English bull ,if hes in the van theres no need to lock up ,you would need a shot gun to rob anything..
  6. Feed mine mainly raw but they have a complete as well. My dogs will very rarely eat veg and also preparing them every day would be a pain in the arse.
  7. exeter. Where abouts in exeter mate? pm if you like
  8. sounds like a racing machine, some of these people at shows like to keep there dogs make up quite secret. And a bull cross winning the racing sounds a better achievment than a whippet/grey which is what it really is!!
  9. Yeah your not wrong!! Maybe you should of just got the one dog to start with, never know they might come good. Take them out and get in amongst it they'll pick it up. Haaaa
  10. Hi Chris,...No, can't say I've had any experience in that department. Took a little interest in gundogs some years back and I understood that the handlers needed a little training to work with ready made/trained gundogs. Sounds like your mate had some bad luck. Keeper on a shoot near me trained his own lab' and went on to win field trials. Bloody great to see a good/proper gundog do the business, can a lurcher do the same I wonder! My grandad used to work a lurcher along side a springer that would retrieve duck from water ,sit and stay untill told to retrieve and at times put
  11. used to have a whippet/grey that caught one after the other in the day time 50 acre field. we do nt have many down this way, he only ever caught one in one night as the ground is quite hilly in places, so much easier for the dog in the daytime.
  12. Far from aggresive mate this bloke is the head keeper of one of the biigest estates in the s west, with probably over 30 years experiance and certainly does not need training himself. I take it you either train or get your gun dogs trained? If it works for you then fair enough..
  13. feed them tinned pineapple with there food or they will normaly take it as a treat.had the same problem with mine and it did the trick.the pineapple makes the s..t smell. it normaly works in a couple off days to work, a old dog man told me marrow or courgette works well I've not heard of that but pineapple is an antibacterial, chew if you get oral thrush, so there may be alteration in GI bacteria and so a change in stools. Worth a go. Had bull terriers for years and a fare few have all done it, mine are fed on a dry food but mostly raw. I was told about the pine apple thing a couple o
  14. Good idea as the dog runs free without anything around the neck, but there a waste of time in my opinion..
  15. Cant be arsed to read every post just this one, so someone may have said already. My view is that its not just the bull cross that has given lurcher folk a bad name, there are plenty of other dogs that are capable of doin what a bull cross does and they do! and the pictures are also put up. No ones lost there way but you mate and the type of people who give dog men a bad name are people exactly like you ,your views are very narrow and dont help anyone. Things change and you have to move with them.
  16. Because, it's not just the gun dog that needs training!....Trained gun dogs are in a different league to lurchers, very few lurchers come anywhere near the standard of a properly trained gundog. My point was that he bought them sold as trained and they weren't. I was not talking about standards!! If i buy something then i expect it to be bought as its described. Why are they in a different league? you have very low standards.. Cheers Chris
  17. I dont personaly belive that anyone would sell a dog that does the lot, i know people sell dogs and say that they are a 100% but who is to say even if they are, would they do the same for someone else. I know a bloke that used to buy so called trained gun dogs and pay good money and when brought home were only half way there.. Why?
  18. I had a real decent one years back mate. He was a rabbit and hare hoover and did roe with a passion. But have seen others with not such good heads that were prone to injury.. Hes the fawn 23.5tts
  19. Daytime roe was allways a good one, but also nice when that big fallow eventually falls!!
