Not quite in your area but Iknow a butchers just north of Bristol who hire one out; Cam Family Butchers.......have you tried Yell.com?

Hi, yes its similar to NOBS, the main diferances are that this is purely a forum to find beating/picking up oportunities; there is no money changing hands, no politics etc; its NOT an organisation in any way shape or form, purely a "dating agency" for want of a better name that puts beaters in toutch with shoots etc nothing more than an online noticeboard. And it works; I've recently moved to the Cotswolds to be with the OH and we have both managed to get beating on a shoot (if not on two...) right away. I'm a member of a shooting syndicate, but wanted to also beat during the week and

There are one or two adverts starting to materialise on here; please register if you are looking for shoot help or looking to beat or pick-up yourself. Thanks,

PUBS is a new forum that I was put in toutch with that has just been launched to put beaters and pickers up (new or experianced) in toutch with shoots looking for help and vice versa. There is also a small general field sports area. Its totally free to join and advertise, so please dive in and take a look. http://pubs.myfunforum.org/index.php With help this forum might provide that vital link for those looking to get into shooting/beating; especially handy for newbies with little or no contacts. Other forums offering similar are much more heavily moderated, require members to be ap

Which sound moderator?
The Sporting Agent replied to trappa's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
If you go down the T8 route make sure you get the right one for your cal. they come in two sizes; also, I'm a big fan of the T4, smaller, lighter and cheaper than the T8 but very nearly as quiet. -
Does anyone know where I can find a mount for a Russian NP75 scope? Thanks,

Sex Discrimination by the Countryside Alliance
The Sporting Agent replied to Foxgun Tom's topic in General Talk
Tom, agreed its not right to discriminate on the grounds of sex; but I should think that the way the SCA have done this is more to do with marketing than discrimination laws. It was/is a promotion aimed at women at a womens spcific event; i.e a Ladies Day. I would think, but am no expert that it probable falls ooutside discrimination laws because in essance it a specific promotion for a specific event. Take it further; surely a Ladies Day, in that case must be illegall?? I don't think its anything to get hot under the collar about; but a great oportunity to reinforce the mesage about t -
Welcome!! You on SC too by any chance?

My Freecycle Welsh Springer 'Ruby'
The Sporting Agent replied to MissPimperella's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
I'm 99.9% convinced she's an ESS not a WSS. This link will give you some idea http://www.wssc.fsnet.co.uk/ She sounds like she has a lovely temprement, a pity for any dog to be on her 3rd home in two years, and to have already had a litter of puppies too. I personally wouldn't breed from her, but get her spayed; if there is the slightest doubt over what she is or her breed type then it would just be irresponsable. If you don't know for sure if she is WSS or ESS, how do you know she is "true to her breed type"? I'm sure a loving home where she will be exercised, worked and trained, ei -

Shooting for a living...
The Sporting Agent replied to essexlad06's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There are others on here better qualified to answer that than me, but if you do a search in the Gamekeeping section you should come up with some good results, I know there has been a lot said on the subject in the past. That said, gamekeeping these days tends to require a decent relevant vocational qualification (NVQ etc) in gamekeeping/management, this will also provide you with a wealth of hands on opportunities too. As with all careers its getting harder to get into and a decent grounding from a course like this will help as well as giving you some contacts for once you are qualified. A -
H and R shotguns
The Sporting Agent replied to skollybrennan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
For the money they are good. We don't see too many of them over here, partly to do with distributors etc....But they are a good sold gun, better IMO than the Webley and Conquest and prob comparable with the Escort, but a better ballance and feel than the Escort. But thats just personal opinion. -
I've got a pair of Eschenbach 7-20x50; they are amazing. I love their optics although the magnification would not have been my first choice - theu were bought for me; but do rate Eschenbach highly.

What do you mean "shooting for a living"? Gamekeeping; Vermin control? Coaching???? Or the forces? -
What is a fac rifle and what can it do?
The Sporting Agent replied to essexlad06's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
In short; yes. Bunnies, crows etc as long as you are not using the meat then a .17 HMR is ok, and for foxes at up to about 150 yards. I use one myself, a CZ with S&B scope. -

The Sporting Agent replied to essexlad06's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
In short, all your spring air rifle will be good for, both practically and legally is target shooting and perhaps some small vermin shooting at close range (by that I mean probably withing 30meters). Hope this clears it up. you can hunt vermin with an air rifle up to 40 yards Notice I said "probably"? I wasn't talking specifics and made that clear throuought my explanation; I was generalising on fact trying to simplify a response to a subject that can get very technical. Also note I used Meters, you used Yards..... -
I want one!!!!

The Sporting Agent replied to essexlad06's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thats probably a bit technical for most, but yes. I tried to keep it simple in my explanation, though of course there are exceptions to what I wrote. As for prices, usually between £300 - £1,000 but again there are exceptions, and its not unheard of for some less common big bore custom rifle to cost 10's of thousands £'s in the same way top end shotguns do. -

The Sporting Agent replied to essexlad06's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sorry but you won't shoot foxes with any rifle that does not require an FAC. Basically none FAC rifles are air rifles, be they spring, CO2 or pre charged that do not output more than 12ftlbs; or an air pistol of 6ftlbs - i.e off the shelf air guns. Firearms (rifles) differ from shotguns in the way they are ledgislated. Once you have a SGC you may buy/own as many shotguns as you wish and shoot any legal quarry wherever you have legal permission. With an FAC, you license will stipulate what caliber you are alowed to use, for what purpose amd on what piece of land; any changes must be applied -
A decent gunsmith should be able to extend the tube for you; but this can't be done legally unless the gun is registered on an/your FAC. Likewise you can buy a larger tube and do it yourself; from a gun shop you might/should find it dificult without FAC, and buying the part on the net and converting it at home is not legal and would land you in prison for 5 years minimum. If you are serious about it, give York Guns a ring and discuss with them, they are the UK importers of Baikal and will advise you.
