Putting new Kits,with older ferrets
Julia replied to michael flatters's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Stubby - it's nice to be back also... Michael - you can swap bedding materiel as well. So they get used to each others smell. And while putting them together give som nice meat or treats - keep them happy you know.. -
Gorgeous dogs! Saluki-mix? or pureblood?

I would seperate the kits from the jill at 8 weeks, starting with a couple of hours and then over the next couple of weeks more and more. Also letting them meet other friendly minded adult ferrets. It's healthy for them to learn to interact with other ferrets than their mother only. And makes it easier when selling the kits to other people with ferrets, so the kits aren't scared to death about seeing an adult strange ferret. As Kay writes - when the kits don't need the mother anymore, and are mentally independent. You must remenber that kits also need to learn ferret behaviour from th

Putting new Kits,with older ferrets
Julia replied to michael flatters's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Depends... How old are the kits? I woulden't put any young kits together with an adult intact hob in season, who's only thinking of one thing. The kits are simply to small to fight back. But else try, and see how it goes. If the kits get beaten up and the adults use them for chewytoys, then wait until the kits are a little bigger and can stand up for themselves. It's really... Mm.. Difficualt to say how it will go. Cause ferrets have different reactions. Some it takes 2 mins to bring together, others never will and has "homicide" written in their eyes. But make sure that you keep wat -
Mostly hob's in season would beat the crap out of eachother, some thow are more, ehh, driven by their desires.

I was 16 and worked for a week in a petstore... Fell madly in love with a albinohob. Got my first ferret at 18, now 22 and still loving the little b*****ds.

If the tail has little black spots, while losing hair. Is just an overproduction of talc and it's called Blackheads (here in DK anyways). Not dangerous or contatius (how to spell? Argh.. My crappy english), and it dosen't hurt on the ferret. It can be treated, or... Well treated or treated... The hairloss can be stopped if washing the tail with desinfection soap called Hibiscrub 2 a day for a week. If I remember correctly. Some ferrets loose al the hair on the tail and look like rats = rats-tail. Some only loose a little. But when the ferret shifts to wintercoat again it grows back. It's

An sooo??? How many kits did she give birth to? And where are the pictures???? *S*

Ohhhhh Babies!!! I wan't to have a kit this year.... It has been to long since I last had a ferret kit... (3 years!)
-
My ferrets would kill to get a court like that... Are the colors on the pics showing of correctly? Are your sandy ferrets really that "red"? It looks awsome...
-
If you end up with that many kits, then you're more than welcome too send me some of them... I think I have a couple of hammocks in my cage that needs some cute ferrets to sleep in them.
-
I too have a ferret who dosen't give a sh** if i'm around or not. She is getting better, i've only had her for 3 years now, i'm okay if i have treats. And then I have the 3 others. One I can't get off me! She sleeps in my hood when were out, another walks in a line like a little dog, and prefers to sleep in my bed and not its cage.

My god Kay. Did she give birth to a tennis ball? She's so round! The jill dosen't have to put on weight to pregnent. I have seen some weird jills. Had a jill, she gained a hole 250 grams (!!!) and came out with = nothing. She had a big soft belly hanging beneath her. Now I come on other foras also. And on a Danish forum for ferret owners we had a thread about jill weight and the number of kits that arrived: 200 g = 8 kits 250 g = 3 kits 200 g = 7 kits 170 g = 5 kits 222 g = 5 kits 170 g = 3 kits I hope it helps, but anyways... You will find out soon enough if she has any kit

If it is a Womb infection, witch it sounds like, then a quick antibiotika cure can do the trick. I have tried this a couple times. 1/4 pill 2 times a day for 8-10 days is the cure in DK. Don't know what you use in UK. If she is starten to swell up, she is going into season now. What will you do with her then?

Beautiful girls! Really good looking. Congrats

Heheh... Now that is a big bat!

I agree. It is impossible to predict unless you have some knowledge of what colors there are in the family. Some colors like Albino and Sandy are recessive, and Silver and Polecat are dominant colors. But if your polecat has albino parents, it is more likely to be albino when mated to an albino.... You will se the colors when the kits are a few weeks old.. Good luck.

Hahaha... Squirrels in burrows and rabbits in trees. Watch out for the flying foxes next time. (And don't come telling me that you saw a flying fox. I won't belive it!) Sounds like a fun day!

Stop washing him. It destroys the natural fat and oil in his skin, and drys his skin out. Besides, it he is entire, it will only take a couple of days before he starts smelling again. When he is entire, he want's all the girls to be able to smell him, thats why he starts smelling again when he gets washed. The same if you have a couple of entire hobs together, they will try to oversmell each other, so the jill will pick the one she smells. When it is a hob's first season in "heat" he can accedently "over do" his smell. So think of him as a teenager who's just started to date, and uses to m

What I think? I think I will beg my grandpa to build me on also. Haha I looks really great, are the wood protected? Or else you should think about protecting it against rain and such....

Oh no. I forgot to answer here! Sorry about that... Albert is the color sandy, a bit reddish thow. But sandy all the way... I love his color. Hi Magwitch, yes it is legal, and some still do it. But it is not very popular, overhere the dog is used mostly. I don't know anyone who hunts with ferrets overhere, sadly, I would like to see how it works. Guest BigBob - Hehe... My angora is only for decoration. :11: I don't work my ferrets, so I use them as company, and hopefully i will start breeding ferrets within a couple of years. Thank you Stork. I like his winthercoat too. In

Oh my GOD! That sounds horrible! If the Uk shows are like that, then I can fully understand why you don't attend them. The shows I enter are not like that at all. I agree, FerretShowing is not about the ferrets. It's all for the owners, so they can get together across borders/countries, and meet likeminded people. It's is promotion of ferrets and ferretbreeders. But everyone I know, would never harm a ferret, or make it suffer during a show. They are well taking care of, and sleep most of the day. Or play with other ferrets in a playpin.
-
Yeah... I don't work my ferrets, but they work me! Keep me going when i most wan't to sleep. Here are some pictures from when they were playing in my "room". (My own room is damaged by water, but got me a flat now, and looking forward to move!) Full angora winther coat My 3 boys having a snack Albert jumping Faunus looking innocent, exept he's NOT! 4/5 on 1 picture, a great acompleissment (how to spell?) for me! Albert is a real supermodel The other hobs are not models, here taking a nap Super Bitch Silver Jill = Zallie Here is a P

Kay. That is a hole lot of classes and colors! In Scandinavia we don't have so many on our shows. I know in Germany they have almost thousands of classes. Different color, age, hairlenght, status (entire/spayed), handicap?. But they also love all colors, and try to breed many new colors also. For example, there is a new color where the ferret is as dark as possible, almost black, no mask, only a little white around the mouth. But on the ferret shows I attend there is these classes: Sable = in all colorrange from the lightest to the darkest Sandy = same as above White = BEW and Albi
