  1. Thanks huntinggirl kind of figgered that myself, some know best.Shame how folks slate the plummer and every post about them ends in bitching and the slating of a breed they know naf all about, whether they own these dogs or not.
  2. Not all plummer lines are sutable to mix, some carry faults and if mixed you have a chance at breeding fault full dogs who may suffer because of them.So if i were to breed from a unsutable line just on working merrets then i am chancing the outcome, where as if i find a line sutable to put with my dogs then find the best working, fault free dog of that line i am using my head and breeding to improve.Don't want to get into a tit for tat mate, but with the plummer as with all other breeds there is a type and to try to keep that type when breeding is important.Does eveyone breed their bitches to anyo
  3. What i said was i would breed from the best dog with the least faults,to breed on working ability alone and letting the dogs suffer the curse that some faults can bring is not good breeding pratice in any kennel. Most lads with terriers who breed a litter or 2 over the years wont think about faults like undershot jaws and the like and will be wanting pups out of workers that will work, what is wrong with wanting the same working ability but in a fault free dog?.I will wait for the right dog in the future for my bitch and will travel anywhere for the use of him,i wont just use a dog on its worki
  4. I do agree mate that breeding worker to worker you have more of a chance to breed a worker, what i ment was you do also need to look at faults as well as these are of equal importance. My own dogs i got from working stock,my bitches father dug regulally as did his father the dame was also from a proven strain(coalville). My dog is from a cracking bitch who does all thats asked of her,his father was a show champ but he was also worked in the field. To say the breed as a whole is f**ked is i think a little wrong mate as there are owner workers out there that are working their dogs and breeding worke
  5. Can you hunt these places at night with a lamp as rats are nocternal and there may be more numbers around at night?,if not then you could try baiting with some grain a little way away so your pup will have a chance at a little course get in between the rats and their home and your pup should have a chance block the runs if you can, a board placed across it will do.A live catch trap could help things along as would taking another dog out with him even just once to show him the way,he may need a bit of help to get the first one under his belt but the more you get out with him the more he will le
  6. I am a plummer owner but not a fan of the man himself(told a good story but thats all they were)people say about the this and that that was put into the plummer to form the breed itself and go on about yet more outcross is needed,i am not that knowageable about the breed but do know that some dogs were used to smarten things up or to put working traits in when developing the breed.Today faults are still aprearing so owners are attempting to breed these out,has to be said but there is only one kennel breeding solely for the pet market and doing all they can to get the dogs kc'd so more money ca
  7. I have a hancock dog and at 11 months old he is coming along nicely, had a few rabbits on the lamp with him and he is learning the ferreting game ok.He is a 3/4gh 1/4 beardie, boarder and has a great waterproof coat on him,i am quite happy with him he can be a bit of a fool someimes but he is young and nothing that is unfixable with experiance and age.He was fine to stock break and haveing been on the end of some ribbing(i own plummers as well) and being told there sh*t all your dogs,i am having one of the best sporting years i've had for years. So all i can say if it looks good for you give it a
  8. That bloke wants to come out and admit to wanting to be forked by a prick, proper closet case. :wankerzo4:
  9. Hit the pier myself today with a mate and caught 15 odd fish mostly codling and a few whiting, all were small but good to see the small stuff that may grow big.Southwold pier in norfolk is where we went and lug tipped with squid, had black lug on as well but didn't catch on it.
  10. Seen it happen a few weeks back to a mate who ain't a small chap,we were ferreting with long nets and a rabbit hit the net was chinned by my mate taken out of the net after about 30 seconds it got up and hopped back down the hole. The burry was a large one one around a large hawthorn tree so we didn't put the ferret down again as digging would have been hard work.He even said he felt the neck go when he chinned it.
  11. Can't wait for the shooting to be over myself for the feed crop ratting, good sport and usally a grand day out for all.
  12. Have a look at the ratting last season post by Keeps and you will see plummers along side other breeds.
  13. What i have seen and i have 2 at home indoors with other dogs and know about 30 plummers personaly is that they are a lot more mellow than they used to be.I myself go out with 3 different lads who have plummers and apart from a couple of scuffles we have had no probs, saying that there are a couple of dogs who shall we sat put up with each other when we are out but bring on something to hunt and all is forgotten. All the lads i know kennel their plummers in pairs, some won't kennel with others ,but as with people we don't like everyone we work with and we wouldn't want to live with them either.I
  14. Good looking dogs and cracking pics.Hello Keeps
  15. im not getting kennel blind mate.i know what i want i used to breed them. Was just nicely saying that as joe isn't breeding any plummers anymore and the fact that there are plenty of lads working thier plummers to all sorts of quarry, there are dogs out there that are producing stock of equal quality work wise and if not better looks wise.I used the phase kennel blind as i didn't really know how else to put it,hope you get what you are looking for.
  16. I caught this one earlier this year, did see it go to ground and was going to let it go if i caught it but the ferret had other ideas. It was the only rabbit of 4 not to bolt from the warren and i saw at least 2 go in.
  17. I think myself he no longer breeds plummers, there are dogs about with coalville blood in them just keep looking. There was a coalville bred dog in the cmw a couple of weeks back,i myself have a bitch with plenty of coalville blood in her and i can't fault her working drive. There are may i add plenty of good working dogs bred each year so don't get a bit kennel blind mate, the working plummer is on the up.
  18. Deden's do fix boxes, but as you have a broke box how do you know your collars are broke as well?.Test them with another box before chucking them, very rare for everything to stop working at the same time mate, would think it will be one or the other rather than both.I have a broke collar that only reads at half the depth with a fast click, same as a flat battery, but took them to deben's (only live a few miles away)and they tested them all for me(2 boxes,3 collars)cost me a tenner and they sent them back to me within a week.
  19. I'm getting the kids a anti for xmas if they break it it won't matter,i'll get them a new one on boxing day.
  20. My uncle used to be a balif near Amsebury wilts and he used to snare the pike that sat near a old mill.He used to take me weed cutting when i was a kid and as he was only little a big pike he would struggle with, had a long bamboo pole with a wire running up to his hand put it over thier heads and pull, used to work for him.Good old fella used to let the local kids fish but made sure they put them back, used to get loads of hippies swimming in the river when stonehenge festival used to be on but he never moaned thought of the river as everyones,he just looked after it.
  21. Seen some big fish in the avon in salisbury years ago.one of my mates shot another mate through the foot with a harpoon gun right next to the old hospital whilst trying for a sizable fish,he didn't have far to hobble they were stood under the road bridge for hours as well.Used to be a bit of a run every year now thinking about it,never took to much notic then.
  22. ive had a court for years but it needs to be more user freindly! This is mine,2 doors so they don't break out as i walk in,still the little buggers get in the bucket when cleaning them out,rip open the shavings sack and jump on you off the wire, still is really easy to keep clean and gives the ferrets as much space as they want,i have 3 litter trays down if they left me alone it would only take 5mins to clean out.
  23. Make it as big as you can with a outside run and a indoor sleeping area.Mine is a old avery with a shed put on the back, have had 13 ferrets in there.Have 8 ferrets at the moment and they love the space, would never go back to hutches.
  24. You still after a ferret or two?,am in norfolk near diss.(they don't bite,2 hobs)
