  1. Was 'scanning' the web and found this! Ecology of ferrets and bovine Tb transmission Movements and survival of juvenile ferrets •Young ferrets in braided riverbeds in the Mackenzie Basin moved up to 45 km from their home territory (average about 10 km), and they were more likely to colonise areas that had had predator control in spring. •Young ferrets also had much higher survival rates when they moved to areas with spring predator control. •Seasonal control of ferrets is best done in autumn, after juveniles have settled in a new location, to minimise reinvasion of an area by m
  2. Shit I will be able to afford 1000 cartridges at this rate and a new gun!
  3. Speaking of 'resident experts' in the lurcher section theres an awful lot who supposedly have 'Punch' bred dogs!
  4. More fuel! I had my two ferts off Chimp, free! an albino jill and an polcat hob. Mind I have never paid for a fert in 35 odd years! The hob, as a kit, had dodgy back legs but after careful looking after by Chimp, then me I guess, hes a big bruiser! All mine live together and I didnt get time to part them before he had lined the pair of em! One jill has had 13 kits today! A big litter and I have another about to drop! Say my other jill has 8? Thats 21 I have to either give away or pedal. Last year I had 9 kits and I couldnt give em away to working homes. The eventually went to a guy
  5. One of my permissions has just drilled the whole farm with peas! I thought 'great' He mangaed to get them in quite deep so nothing was left on the surface. Its been 2 weeks since he finished and yesterday there were lots about but not til after lunch. I had an hour and got 15 with a mate. Today its pissing down so no go! I recon once the shoots appear it will be good. In my opinion you can usually shoot peas from drill to combine and stubble oh and thankfully the guy who farms is also a shooter so there have been a few places where he broadcast an 'overcrop' to make sure the peas cam
  6. When I got my Titan Manitou the first trip out I had 13 rabbits for 13 shots! An afternoon session round some grass parkland. Since then have had many double figure days. Had a good few on the lamping at night as well when out with my mate in his truck and walking! See the avatar!
  7. Very open ended question! Generally I find one in proof that goes bang usually does the job!
  8. Mate these are cracking pups if only I had the time for one! Recon they would make good ferreting partners for sure.

    spades

Cheryl Cole and Dawn French were seen today in the garden centre. When approached by staff and asked if they needed help they both said 'can you point us in the direction of garden tools' Certainly came the reply anything in particular you need? Yes we are both looking for new spades!
  10. stopped! we never started as rabbits were so thin on the ground on our permissions! Only went about 5 times in all and prob managed 30 in total! Few more about now so fingers crossed for this winter! Oh and a bit of lamping in between
  11. Bit young to chip at that age mate .. I said the same to him and i think its in DEFRA's guide! I did ask if he would be prepared to wait until the pups were ready to go and he sort of said yes but would want a written gaurantee that I would do so
  12. I have the forunner to this rifle a Tiatn manitou. Have had the gun since new and cannot fault it. Gives 65 - 70 shots per charge and very accurate. Puts out about 11.8ftlb with air arms field. Think it was 'designed' by John Bowkett and hes a legend! Sure if you want to know more there is a Falcon owners site, plenty on there. If you want it footprinted then John Bowkett again.
  13. http://www.extorian.co.uk/shooting/pellets.html?grains=16&velocity=560&energy=11.14&rifleLegality=Yes&pistolLegality=No+(Requires+F.A.C.) Click on the above link mate its brilliant
  14. Picked up a superb cook book the other day called The Slow Cooker Bible. Has loads of stuff in it! Cost me just £5
  15. I spoke to my local vet and he said he was prepared to dock 'working' breeds on 'proof of use' I asked if shotgun certificate was ok and he said yes! Cost was mentioned and he then said he thought he could do 3- 4 pups for a consultation fee approx £25 more pups then 2 consultations. He also said the pups have to be chipped. Prefer to dock and chip them at surgery, between 2 - 5 days old He was going to look into 'ringing' as per lambs. I know he had looked at all the DEFRA stuff and said there was 'no reason not to dock working breeds' He is in Cambs pm me and i will see what i can do
  16. Round us in Cambs its been bad only had about 5 outings with the ferts all 'season' Hadnt seen many at night out lamping either. My mate saw an article in a shooting mag about a disease, Chinese rabbit flu or summat like that, which had decimated the population round this way. Seeing a few more about now so hopefully a better year in prospect!
  17. Perhaps they just let it out on bale
  18. Think I posted one some time back but cant find the original where it came from My mate made some from walnuts I gave him out of my back garden! According to all counts they were superb! Found the original post entitled as below. Has pics as well!! pickling walnuts - with pics from start to finish thanks masmiffy
  19. Hey 'the one' how about us inventing ferret condoms! Stop std's and also wouldnt need a vasectomised hob! Feck I am off down the patent office tomorrow
  20. Perhaps the ferret rescue places that 'abound' all over the country should have a register of all the available vasectomised hobs for people to 'borrow' when they need them? Or have a stock of vasectomised hobs they could offer themselves? If they 're-home' ferrets perhaps they should only offer them vasectomised or neutered to prevent the breeding of unneccesary stock! [as do Wood Green] Cat protection do a scheme where you get a voucher to get any kitten spayed / neutered which is taken from them and given a good home.
  21. Glad you got it sorted mate
  22. Got black ones in my back garden! Common in Hertfordshire I believe so must have emigrated to Cambs
  23. what a crap job you have mate who on earth would swap places with you? MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
