  2. If anyone is interested I have a friend who imports 'plastic' hives from Europe. They look the dogs. Not sure of the spec etc but he has 'loaned' some to our local society for testing and they seem to like em. www.apimaye.com
  3. Fresh carcase is best for them I did soak some kibble in warm water for my kits last year they loved it! Was about the consistancy of thick porridge. Usually they can leave the mother at around 8 weeks. Sure you will get other advice on this tho
  4. Did a quick weigh up of the pellets today at work. Over 10 pellets the weight I got was an average of 1.0236g with equals 15.7965 grains. So I guess 15.8 is the weight to use for air arms field. This being the case then 575 fps = 11.6 ft/lb 584 fps = 11.97 ft/lb

  11. Welding gloves what a pratt I never go near my ferts without a pair of butchers chain mesh gloves and apron on LOL I cant recall the last time I got nipped by an adult fert. I have always let kits mouth me when they are real small they soon get to know I aint food and give up! Most of us have had pups and when small they 'bite' but soon learn not to.
  12. Did have one as a kid also a magpie. Long time ago and cant remember what we reared em on! Both were real tame and flew loose round the garden always came home. The magpie drowned itself in a waterbutt! Being the territorial things they are it thought its reflection was a rival!! I think years ago it was said if you split a jackdaws tongue you could get em to speak? And before the smart comments come it was more than ouch lol

    Lapwings

Seen a few Lapwings round here but nowhere as many as when I was a kid From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), also known as the Peewit, Green Plover or (in the British Isles) just Lapwing, is a bird in the plover family. It is common through temperate Eurasia. It is highly migratory over most of its extensive range, wintering further south as far as north Africa, Pakistan, northern Republic of India and parts of China. It migrates mainly by day, often in large flocks. Lowland breeders in westernmost areas of Europe are resident. It occasional
  14. Thanks for the info mate I will check the actual pellet weight on my micro balance at work. I was using the 'Extorian' pellet weight chart and calculator cos its on my home PC! The 595 reading was taken after I had reassembled the gun after checking it was 'legal' and I suppose was taken about 20 mins after the last 570 reading.
  15. After my recent encounter with our local plod and the armed response unit when pigeon shooting with the 12G I decided to check out the fps on my Titan .22 pcp Did it yesterday afternoon in the garden, it was bloody hot! Set up the chrony and was getting a reading of around 570 ft/sec which with 16.4 grain air arms fields equates to about 11.8 ftlb. So was reasonably happy. I did on last check after finising my beer and clocked 595 ft/sec = 12.9 ftlb WTF? I am gonna do a re-check when the ambient temp has dropped but it was a bit disturbing! What was legal suddenly wasnt! Any thoug
  16. Hi mate I know what you mean about getting involved. I have always been in the nest from day 1 if your jill handles well and is calm it should be fine. I had my kits all out on about day 3 to count em and yesterday they had just started to crawl out of the nest. Started with 9 still got 9! I cleaned em out and just left the nest. The jill and her mother are in there together and took no notice at all.
  17. My poley has 10 little stinkers which were born around the 16th. If anyone in cambs is looking for some get in touch! ready in about 6 weeks!

  21. One real stumbling point here the the bird was only 'pricked' When I picked it up after he had thrown it back in the field there was no sign of any blood on the bird at all. I recon he was just pissed off that we were shooting on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
  22. An 'interesting' afternoon all round I recon. As Chimp said we were at least 150yds away from the houses and couldnt nor wouldnt have shot towards em anyway. I did speak to the guy whose house the pigeon hit even said thanks for returning the bird Was polite enough, I thought, but I guess as it was a nice day and they were in the garden they didnt like the noise! Good omen here I recon? if you dont like the countryside or countryside ways stay in the feckin city! Mental note to self 'must go back next weekend and shoot some more'
