  1. I think you have to introduce yourself on the iff now, but its not as good as it used to be, a lot of folk have gone to facebook like already mentioned hope this helps
  2. great, onwards once that hurdle is over come, nice one mine did pretty much the same today as yesterday, feel like she's getting better, I need a double thickness glove as its only a matter of time before she's through it with her talons
  3. he getting close then, picked my female up at tea time, stamping the glove etc, weighed her, equipped with a longer leash, jumped 3 times about 3-4 foot no probs the extended to 6-8 foot, hesitant at first them started to come and veered off, brought her down to the ground, when feeding her manners are ace, before food she hates the glove and ten mins after she hates the glove! shown no aggression towards the hand or face so far
  4. great stuff, who bred her? I know a lad in preston that breeds them
  5. if I was alone when flying I'd fly a female harris, they are pretty much predictable, and its very much good to have a walk out with the bird following on, on the fist beating cover etc, ive not had the experience flying a red even though I owned one one but I didn't fly her, but what time I did spend with her she was great, on the other hand I heard of some bloke on my estate who flew a redtail and it smashed through a living room window to get at something that was in side, and yes it got it, a lot of folk told me the red was mental hope you make the right choice that's gonna suit you, I l
  6. great advise already given, the big difference with owls is they don't have crop area where you can tell how much food is there, owls food goes straight through to the stomach, you need to learn how much food is given for the next day, I always check by feeling how big the crop is to give me a rough idea for the next days weight, as for harris or red I'd opt for the harris , reds are very good but in the right hands
  7. good luck to both of you, looks like we all got a challenge on our hands
  8. lol, love the glove, ive got an imprint male here that ive flown for the last five seasons, he like clock work, going to get him out around xmas time, maybe sooner if this female beats me,lol
  9. she 7years old this year, the fella I got her off had her for breeding trying to get in to imprints, he's not a reliable person ive since found out so im treating her history as a blank, I got her last year just after the breeding season, she had reared harris hawk as they were still in with her when I fetched her, I mouted her out and this year she went through all the breeding motions bar standing for me, so I thought I'd try and fly her to get a better bonding, but she has a problem with the glove, want to kill it! ive had her feeding of it a week now and she's slowly getting better, ive ha

  15. been using this method a few years now, the guys from Holland showed it a friend of mine many moons ago
  16. ive got a female here that completely mental, but like you I like a challenge, im determent to crack her, I bought her as a breeding female 6 years old, she hated the sight of the glove, had her feeding on it for the last week, she's doing well so far, good luck with him pal
  17. sorry but im with pointer on this one, I used to do lurchers and terriers, but for the last 8 years ive done falconry and I don't know what to do with my spare time, in the week I can fly my bird around the duck ponds in less than an hour an half, sat and sundays were used as I pleased, hour-four hours, when I hunted with dogs I was out all days and nights, training my bird is done less than an hour, getting my lurcher fit I used to walk it every evening which could be up to three hours I hunted my male gos for the last five seasons
  18. invest in a telemetry set before you buy a bird, I know it will cost more than the bird but it will be there as long as you look after it, if your mates have a receiver then you could just get a transmitter for the time being like I did, then got my own
  19. bullet

    Falconry

    all the best then mate
  20. to some it isn't worth the risk of loosing a male
  21. Im pretty sure you need to have A10's to go with feathers, not sure about birds that don't have A10's like harris hawks
  22. thanks guys, went out lastnight with a mate who has a rimmy, we had 8, loads about, keeps the owner happy and my freezer topped up
