Put traps out on sunday lifted today as we are forecast snow on the fells and i might not get out to check them, got a few but not happy with what im doing , seem to be in right place but missing more than i should i rekon, although two good things happened one was i got the mole in the farmers garden(felt a bit under pressure there) and when i moved them and reset them i caught one pretty soon after as it was in the trap as i walked round checking them before i left, so its highs and lows again(got a few that had loose soil in them but were not tripped, has it dug underneath?), heres the catc

nighttimenellie replied to woodga's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Nice haul mate, had a right natter with keeper on the other side of your fell, and he was saying he hadnt had any young this year either, we were both moaning and mumbling about weather and the like knocking things back this year, anyhoo as soon as he went we did a set and it had half waxers in it i couldnt believe it, first i had seen. -

First go at the moles
nighttimenellie replied to nighttimenellie's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Thanks PK,and Moley, i looked at the traps yesterday and as i said i had only done very minor adjustments so i eased the trigger a little what a difference(to be honest i didnt do it first off as i was scared of the traps, having caught my fingers in one whithout gloves on when setting them in the house , one day ill grow up and be a big boy )i am surprised i caught any at all after seeing how stiff they were, compared to how light you can get them, so im ordering some more and im going to give it a proper go, thanks lads. -
Had my first pop at the moles over the past 3 days , got ten traps from flatpack (couldnt afford to buy in bulk from bethel fellas) straigtened the loops and pushed the trigger forward on them and off i went with my straight out the box traps(couldnt wait to weather them and was told you dont need to anyway) After probing around for a couple of hours i had set them, went back the next day 3 tripped but no moles full of earth the traps were(any advice welcome to what i did wrong there)cleaned them out and reset them, back the next day and i had got 2, i was like a bairn in a sweet shop, i move

Went to look at the pups yesterday,(its only a week since i saw them last and they seem to have doubled in size) the photos on the web dont do them justice, they are realy big healthy pups, we weighed them as they were due another worming ( the dogs tipping the scales at 10 pounds, they are only 6 weeks today!!!!) the bitches are only a little bit behind around the 8.5/9 pound mark, As he is such a nice lad Giro paid to take all the pups to the vets to get them a M.O.T so to speak before he sold any so he knew in himself they were all sound and healthy(although you can see just by looking at

Again a cracking night, in the best of company, Colins Typp, looks in cracking condition and must have ran the best of all the dogs on the night, of that there is no doubt. Towzer thanks for those kind words,i stayed on because i enjoyed the company and watching your dog run, i realy must get a new battery, having to pack in at half nine is a bloody joke, i look more amaturish with every passing season lol, again a great night lads thanks

am i missing something here, did i read that in 3 hours of lamping the score was 9-7!!!!!, feckin 9-7 in three hours, that is not a lamping competition, it should either be re-run on some decent ground , or the lad with the bullx should get his money back, that is nothing short of a disgrace, (not having a go at anyone but it proves there are to many variables to hold such competitions) i think the "away"dog has ran better than the "home" dog , if its only lost by two on completly strange ground, its ran better, as it hasnt had the advantage of the dog or owners local knowledge,(surely the com

In my experience, Canons cmos sensor is very rough at high iso,(i have a 450d, body only, and use an 70-200 f4 usm L series lens, not image stabalised, ) so i would buy body only and invest in an usm L series lens f4 or better f2, so you can shoot at lower iso. Dont know much about Nikon but there older cameras seem like the dogs danglies(up to the d60) the next 2 the 70 and have been getting a bit of stick, i think its mainly about more money for little improvement. But the 40-60 have rave reviews. I have had an olympus E510, the sensor was spot on even at high iso and shutter speeds of 1/

Some of the best posts i have read on here ,on this thread, from Doxhope and Tomo, ran minshaw dogs myself best total 96 rabbits(2 dogs, would have carried on if i had known the total but we had just gone for a muck about when a good night broke out), 100 has been done but nowadays i think it would be realy hard as i doubt there is a rabbit left in britain that doesnt get a lamp swished over it and therefore learns the dangers of the white night light I now run a little collie cross dog, that will catch low thirties on a good night but will get you mid twenties every night(5 nights a week) sh

Cracking slides lads, those two dogs realy are mirror images of each other, funnily enough they were best pals in the whelping box and even when they got to run about in the garden they played with each other all the time. Its their sire you want them to take after,(Soz) if any of the pups see, never mind catch, a tenth of what he put to bed, well all be happy. Anyway good luck Vermin Dropper and May, i hope this season brings you lots of fun, all the best Nellie.

,Nice posts Whin, canny beat a bit of Corries, Hamish Imlach(very much missed) Dick Gauchin, Banjo Paterson, top fellas and songs, id like to add The masacre of Glencoe and greenfields of France into the list. One i remember from School was called "Among the leaves so green O"(i think) never heard anyone else who had heard of this one, it went a bit like The keeper did a shooting go and under his cloak he carried a bow All for to shoot at the merry little doe Among the leaves so green o. This might have got me into hunting lol.
-
Nice going Moll, cant beat a trip with just you and the dog, 90% of my hunting is done that way, i love it.
