personally I wouldn't give a monkeys what people say about shingle. I use 30mm and 40mm shingle and never had any problems with feather damage all the damage, if any has been done out in the field.

I got bored and converted my mews for the Spar today as the cold weather will soon be hear. I am still debaiting wether to put pea shingle back in as it will break every tail feather on the bird I was also going to open up a section of the roof with the same idea as a swinging door but I couldn't be assed. Please dont rip the s*** out of me with the size of the mews as I know I have a big Spar and she nearly touches the side as she flys 11ft from one end to the other.
  8. Trouble is Jasper I weighed her yesterday and she was 10.1oz (286.3g) and cant get anymore it to her thats nearly 3oz over flying weight fat as F*** her tail feathers are coming along nicely they are all there apart from 1 which Im waiting for her to drop. When I pop over next I will bring the husqvarna and turn that nice little apple tree into a plucking post for the wild sparrowhawks

IMHO there is no such thing as a beginners bird. I have seen people with HH's as their first bird and F***** them up and seen people with Goshawks who have done the same. I know people who have had Goshawks, Buzzards, Harris hawks, Redtails, peregrines, sparrowhawks and kestrels as their first birds it all comes down to how much time, effort and the homework people put it.

  14. I think sparrows and starlings have been taken off the quarry list. What you will have to do is apply for a quarry licence http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=36975 there maybe more info on the natural england website or the DEFRA website http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ http://www.defra.gov.uk/ Application for a licence http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/publicati...ife/WML-A41.pdf
