Can We Change The Way We Trap
michael flatters replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
What was the name of the squeaking caller the warrener used on one of his videos when snaring foxes, looked about the size of a coke can that he hung in a tree. -
Can We Change The Way We Trap
michael flatters replied to 2.8 guy's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
All of this stuff has already been developed, you can buy electronic squeekers for the states used to draw foxes etc into traps/snares,remote monitor traps are available and i even saw on youtube the other days some guys with a cage around a hog feeder that had a camera link to the guys iPhone, when the hogs went in,it sent live footage to his phone, then he could press a button and drop the trapdoor. -
I wear Snickers work trousers with knee pads in,When i am mole trapping i kneel on my spade to keep out of the mud.

We just lost a local guy to it,he caught it through a cut on his finger.

Seems to me that the only antis we need worry about are the moderators,if we dare not show what is legal then what is the point of a hunting forum?Stand up for our sport please.

Is there a problem with snaring cubs?Is it not legal??

I had the taller Harris bipod and did not like it so i swapped for a shorter one,i found the taller one on its lowest setting it was too tall for me to to be comfortable prone.I would always have the tilting model.

The thing is that most would be happy to put a Fenn trap a few inches inside a rabbit hole, but many would not feel so happy to use a cubbie with the same small amount of overhang.I suppose in the real world if we could set traps and label each one clearly to keep the dog walking gang informed we would be doing a better job,but with the risk of theft and damage to traps few would do so.Perhaps its time for the big organisations to inform the general public about trapping and also about subjects such as the correct use of poison bait etc,to me they seem to spent too much time on their members wh

I sadly had a great tit caught in a bait box in a T Rex trap so no trap will ever be really safe especially when going for prey as big as rabbits.
-
I would agree with the last post,i would prefer to use a short cubbie wide enough to cover a set trap rather than just the wire of the fence, although i know which would catch better.Catching not target species willl always be a problem and when catching rabbit a 6" tunnel of wood or wire is of little protection to them regardless of length. In many ways a Body Grip type trap should have a different set of rules to a Fenn type trap.

Well done Logun, nice work yet again,i would love the plans!

fenn trap tips and tricks
michael flatters replied to NextGenerationTrapper's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Yes real Fenns,i have neck caught ones in new traps and still not dead, also the amount of rabbits that have been caught and got free bothers me,i double check the height to the roof of the tunnel, but i still get too many with just fur left in them,im always free to meet up for a lesson Nod to see what you do different. -
fenn trap tips and tricks
michael flatters replied to NextGenerationTrapper's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
A MK 6 often struggles to kill big rabbits,i am sick of finding live rabbits in them and they are not miscaught, let alone the ones that have been caught and pulled out. From now on i will be building up my stock of Imbras and Jubies and gradually just keeping the Fenns for the rats. -
fenn trap tips and tricks
michael flatters replied to NextGenerationTrapper's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I set some Fenns this morning in some rabbit holes,by this afternoon i had caught one poor devil with a good neck catch, but it was still alive,i am never very impressed with the Fenn ability on full grown rabbits.i also had two traps set slightly too high and had not closed fully,so i lowered them a bit so hopefully tomorrow will be better.I do like to fit longer chains on my traps,i always seem to struggle with the standard chains.I would like to know if anyone has much luck block trapping using bodygrips and how is the best way to set them, with a cubbie still or just set back in the hole a -
Trap pan covers
michael flatters replied to michael flatters's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I have been finding the sieved earth in my area was sometimes locking up the traps especially after rainfall,i have been using baking paper, but something more flexible would be better. -
How many of you guys use trap pan covers when trapping? i see the Americans use Latex, but i sorced some and the damn stuff stinks,i picked up from the pound shop a lightweight non slip mat that looks useful, they make a heavier mat too,but it is too thick.I will give the stuff a go.

i have put a few different types of traps around the garden near my walnut tree, but the best so far is the bodygrip with the walnut on the trigger.they are not interested in the peanuts yet with walnuts still about.
-
Carhartt dungaree trousers, good tough canvas with an extra layer down the front.
-
Make sure the tunnel is the correct height,if it is too tall when triggered it will sometimes throw them out the top.

I am good friends with Agouti (nige) and he has had perhaps as much experience with nets as anyone. What he does say about drops nets is he wouldnt touch them with a bargepole, many have problems dropping correctly every time, often they need to be left up to get rabbits used to going under them which leaves them visible for theft and also if near a hedge they will catch birds and that can get you in big trouble. There are many different ways to control rabbits and personally i dont think this will be your most effective option.
-
I keep adding to my trap collection, which do you prefer for rabbit,Imbra or Juby and why?I am looking to slowly replace my Fenn Mk 6s which i feel is far from perfect for humane rabbit control.

I found the plans, but not the link to where they came from,pm me and i will scan them for you.
