  1. In the run up to Christmas I thought I'd treat myself to a new pair of hunting trousers for the coming festive hunting period. Done a bit of reading up on a few pairs and came across the Seeland Exeter Advantage trouser. 'This is a very hard wearing trouser' it said on the product description and 'waterproof, windproof and breathable'. Great I thought........but how wrong I was....... With my first step into the very first cover of the day, I felt my right trouser leg get caught onto a bramble, and as momentum naturally took me forward, this bramble (which was the size of a bloody draw
  2. Welsh & Welsh/English. Love the mixed blend, but have to say I am quite keen on the welsh/english cross. The english side in our pack goes back to fell/english cross, with the fell side being the more predominant. Produces a beautiful sound.
  3. I was going to write a topic on scent, but as you mentioned it thought I'd reply to this thread. We were hitting some really good scent end of august and pretty much all of september and considering they were really dry months I couldn't believe how good it was. And we weren't even starting at 6am to hit the dew on the ground. our starts were 10am with a finish time of around 1pm as we were only getting them out for a run (job to get people up on a Sunday before 10am round here!!). But come October we hit the 2nd weekend and it went a lot colder and a bit damper and we were all thinking the sc
  4. After laying the trail early yesterday morning, our first cover of the day produced a different kind of hunt.Scent was patchy from the start. Came across a few old lines which didnt really come to anything. Managed to get hounds back into cover and within a couple minutes we had managed to find a good line. Hounds had finally found the trail.....or so we thought!! Music was getting louder and louder and the pace was increasing. By now the forestry was rattling. All followers are now on cb saying how good the music is. Next message to come across.....'they're on deer!!!' What we weren't told at
  5. Two foxhound bitches free to good home. The tri coloured bitch, 5 year old, hunts a mixed bag and is ideal for anyone who does a lot of bushing. The lemon and white bitch is 2 year old, not quite entered but on the verge. Only reason I'm getting rid of her because she doesnt get on with some of my other hounds in kennel. PM me if interested
  6. Below is a link to a story I read on bbc website this morning. Thought I would share. It might be localised but then again it might not. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25820926
  7. Im getting rid of an english foxhound bitch. if anyone is interested PM me. Cheers
  8. Haven't been on here for a while. Run a pack of 21 young hounds, going really well and they are improving all the time. One missing piece of the jigsaw is an established marking hound to help the young hounds on. Willing to take on a retired hound or hounds as long as they mark. If anybody has any contacts then I'd be grateful if you could PM me. Cheers.
  9. bought a pair of Jack Pyke once, worst boot ever bought. only lasted 6 months. several mates had same issues. Gone for a pair of Grisport Crusader, seem a decent boot, but time will tell.
  10. http:// Found this on Youtube and really enjoyed it, thought I'd share! Surely some of the best scenting hounds about! My favourite part is at around 7mins 50 secs onwards when they are going full cry down the concrete road for best part of half a mile, take a fair hound to do that!! Enjoy!
  11. Im just wondering if anyone has worked these in the past and your thoughts? Im looking to bring a pup on and anyone with previous experience who can give any insight would be greatly appreciated. PM me if you'd prefer. Cheers
  12. Great read again bud!! Sounds like the scent is on top form across the country! Been hitting some serious good form last few weeks ourselves, long may it continue for the rest of the season!!
  13. Good read mate! Scent was good with us later on in the day on Sunday, had one hell of a run! Long may it continue!!

  15. Ye already started, been exercising since July and hounds are now fit ready for season. Had a great couple of weeks so far, catching the scent at the right time of the morning.
  16. Finishing off at the kennels tonight and who comes and pays a visit
  17. We feed pub food waste and its the best stuff we have ever fed them with. Contains all sorts of goodness....vegetables & meat! Hounds are in top condition off it!
  18. Beagles gone, being picked up Saturday. Cheers Dave
  19. So it was......Message me again bud!
  20. Got 3 working beagles free to a good home. 10 year olds, but 100% certs! Ideal to bring on young hounds, or blend into an existing smaller pack. 2 bitches and 1 dog. Genuine reason for getting rid of them, they just cant keep up with our younger welsh hounds who have now established themselves into the pack. These 3 have done us well over last 12 months or so helping our younger hounds come on. No timewasters or bullshitters!! PM me for more details Cheers
  21. Anybody know of any Mink Packs who might be interested in a hunt in Mid Wales? Mate of mine is losing trout out of his stock pools. We've been out with the lamp for a few looks and set a number of traps, but no luck. PM me with any contact details.......would be much appreciated. Regards Dave
  22. Weather has been amazing with us all week, so today it was down tools and spring clean the hunt kennels!! Finish off tomorrow! Anybody else taking advantage of the good weather to get end of season duties done? Perhaps a pointless topic, but given the season has finished, I have to talk about something lol!!
  23. Very interesting topic and one that's got everybody thinking! My own opinion, is that every fox has their own unique smell, and although when we smell fox it smells exactly the same as others, to a hound each one is unique! Whippet 99 is spot on in that a hounds nose is like our ears! when I hear a hounds cry within our pack, I know exactly who it is and whether it is a fresh line or old drag. Same principle with scent to a hound!
