Hi All - Talking to someone today whose friend claims to sell foxes he shoots to a local Chinese family for their consumption. Apparently he gets £40 for each carcass as they are considered a real delicacy in China. I have no reason the truth of this but do find it a bit hard to swallow (pardon the pun). Anyone else heard of this?? S

Not being an expert in any of this, the one thing that crosses my mind is what effect the different calibres and speed of the bullets have on the animal. I use a 6.5 x 55 and I have found the exit hole on Roe is always a very neat one inch diameter hole. I have seen a photo of the exit hole caused by a .243 and it was large and messy in comparison - not saying they're all like that, just the one I've seen. Surely this should be taken into account too? S

I had the same problem. Two very small strips of insulating tape on the bottom of the lamp filter sorted it and didn't upset the balance of the rifle. I noticed it the first time I went out at night so I just thought I'd take the mod off for the evening. It was the first time I had ever fired it (or any rifle actually) without a mod on - nearly cr*pped myself. Put it back on having frightened all the wildlife in the county away and went home to find the tape!

I'm a keen gardener so produce enough veg from the garden to go with the game I shoot. Really good year this year for most things - just about to start on the sprouts, parsnips, leeks and still digging carrots. Purple sprouting a good size which will kick off in early spring. Picked all the remaining peppers from the greenhouse at the weekend, so the greenhouse is now empty and waiting for the onion seeds to go in on heated benches just after Christmas. Than it all starts over. We also have a large Bramley apple tree and three plum trees that I would quite like to see have a bad year in 2

Take a look at this: Butt Out tool in use. I use it on deer once I get it back home rather than in the field. It does make the job a little easier. Still not a particularly pleasant task! S

Couldn't it be an early prototype of a deer butt remover?

I tried the Wam call but found I ended up out of breath when I had to take the shot. And then I sat on it. :oops: Now I use the Callmaster as do others on here but it would be interesting to discover which particular call/chip other users find most successful? Cheers S

Hi Deker - I bought a cheap snap air rifle when I was 16 which I used for plinking but I recall I never really got the hang of it. I remember a pigeon was caught and brought in by one of the cats but it wasn't quite dead so I volunteered to 'put it out of its misery' but even though I shot it in the head at point blank range, such was the lack of power the pellet just bounced off! Sold it shortly afterwards. After a break of about 25 years, I bought a Webley Raider to get rid of the rabbits eating my veg. Had good fun with that for a year or so but needed more range as by that time I
