  1. Does he want any more best mates? :11: Real appreciation.
  2. Has anyone been done yet..... as in DONE for HUNTING Down our way ,a lad was caught leaving an estate in the early hours by the old bill.He had 2 lurchers and a brace of hares .Apparently its just gone to court ,and the only thing he was charged with was poaching and non possesion of a game license!.No mention of the new hunting act?Several local hunts are up on charges of unlawful hunting but none of them seem bothered by it. Dont know whether its true or not but rumour has it that even if someone gets done under this new legislation,it does not go on your record as its no more seriou
  3. Mik-This is where some of the arguements start on here,I know what you mean but down our way,a midden is the term for a heap of farmyard shit! What you call a midden is to us a bait station.? Local dialects are the cause of more than one slanging match I know. Great answer anyway.Keep at it!
  4. Hunting and field sports in general have been under attack for years. Its not a recent thing. We ,as a whole thought itwould never happen but it did.I dont think we were forceful enough in allowing it to happen. The French know how to respond to threats to a way of life and livlihoods, they riot, blockade and disrupt, causing maximum discomfort to government. They are not dictated to by any political party or outsiders. We as a country are too willing to let other people fight our battles and hide our heads in the sand.O.K we went to London,4 times,we shouted we got arrested but this only aided the an
  5. Sorry mate, but I have no idea what you mean. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think nuv means its a different dog but I can see the resemblace. Its black for a start!
  6. Until I see live or dead proof myself ,I cant see these cats going so undetected .
  7. This bloke dosnt know whether hes coming or going.Still dont believe a word of the badger killers or are their badgers snipey nosed f@ckers like the dachshound.
  8. Also from what I gather on the net ,these "working tests" are a bit like our working dog shows in that its all the dogs do week in week out.No propper, testing work in the field . breeders comand large fees for winners instead of stayers . You can keep your little entertainers and please dont anyone get talked into breeding from one!
  9. Also frm what I gather on the net these "working trials" are attended by the same dogs ,same breeders week in week out .Seems to be a bit like our Working dog shows where the same old faces charge what they like for a dog thats winning rosettes?AS the lads said earlier ,the ONLY test of a terrier is work of the staying kind! Badger killing dachshounds,my grandad will live off that one for a while, pinochio. :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11: :11:
  10. Matulcock-sorry if I spelt it wrong-As you probably know ,we here in the U.K cannot dig badgers any more .Its the law.It used to be a regular pasttime for many sporting gents,my grandfather being one of them.As soon as I saw you write about badger killing dachshounds I had to phone him up. When hed finished laughing he asked me to ask if you meant to say"dachshound killing badgers".Im well aware of the breeds origin as badger dogs but grandad also had dogs of fine ancestry with bull added along the way.grandad said no way would a snipey nosed f@cker do a badger and I can only agree. Keep it
  11. Bedlington-That cat hasnt met a dog that means it :11: On the subject of calibres for these ghosts, someone said about using a 243 minimum. This calibre is capable of dropping red stags at 250 yds in the right hands. Most stags weigh in at over 500lb wheras a puma type cat would struggle to reach the 100lb mark .The height of these things is no more than a good size fox hound so pound for pound about the sme body mass as a roe buck .Ive shot these with the .222[in Scotland of couse].I would be very confident of dropping one of these cats with the .222 IF they exist. All the pug prints Ive
  12. Dont mean to chuck a spanner in the works but-Does anybody think that IF these cats do exist ,would not one of the many foxhound packs have treed one by now,or at least seen one leave cover. Also I wouldnt have thought these cats would stand and fight a dog of any breed {as long as they wernt brought to bay with no other escape}.All wild animals first instinct is to run and hide from dogs and in the case of cats thats up a tree!
  13. We have a decent population of this tiny deer around our area, mostly unseen due to their nocturnal habits.Bordering our housing estate is an old allotment which at one time was fenced all round to keep the deer out .This fence has long fallen into disrepair and the allotments are full of brambles ,a direct contrast to the regimental rows of veg that once grew there. The muntjac love this area and the surrounding rough ground. For those of you not familiar with the habits of muntjac, they breed all year round and the does call for a bucks attention at night .The call or "bark" is not unlike a
  14. Theres been a few sitings around us in recent times .What i cant understand is why the many hound packs never report treeing one or seeing one break cover.
  15. Hope this helps-The vaccine given actually varies from county to county, according to the local likely hood of any particular disease or virus which is prevallent in the area.Parvo distemper and lepto are a standard vaccine but anything else varies. You are right in saying a pup needs 2 lepto jabs .This is straight from my local vet.
  16. Billy you rascal, dont be shy and get a story on here about that bullx of yours.Whats the tally now?REMEMBER the master will be hanging on your every word. Master of the D.V .F .H that is!
  17. Some years ago I took my then girlfriends brother out ferretting with disastrous goings on .He was fine all morning and well interested in the proceedings. After a quick bite to eat we netted up a smallish bury and I asked him to get the hob out the carry box as he hadnt seen anything all morning. He held it while I collared him up.I then checked round to make sure no holes were missed but got diverted by screams from the lad.Somehow the hob had hold of his face ,right through the cheek. The lad wouldnt stand still for me to have a look and danced about holding or rather pulling at the ferret whi
  18. Exellent advice for anyone mate .Should anyone feel the need to "stretch" the law and finds themselves in a sticky situation, without the written permission, you can be sure that other charges of perhaps poaching or armed trespass will be added until the matter is resolved [or not].
  19. Its not necessarily the size of the dog that determines whether or not it gets pushed about.Weve all heard the saying"not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in the dog".There was never a truer word spoken. You are right about vixens though, fiesty little feckers they can be.
  20. Some may put down the hard dog as a liability,it is personal choice, but lets not forget that most decent working terriers are a result of breeding to a hard dog.If bayers are bred continually then Im afraid the standard does drop.
  21. J.D-Tried the leave longer trick but the bitch is hard and I live with it.The depth of the dig and what I come across on the way down determines the length of time she is to ground. The main thing to me is that she stays until dug to .
  22. I think the thing to do is MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT IN WRITING.Mate of mine was recently "apprehended" leaving his ground ,some busybody having phoned the law. They wanted to know what hed been up to with his 2 lurchers, the 1 being marked up slightly. He replied that hed been rabbitting and showed them the written permission. The coppers soon lost interest and he was on his way,on foot.
  23. If its just for gutting rabbits, buy a cheep stanley knife and load it with the hooked blades. They go in easy and the bonus is they dont rip the guts. cheers foxdropper.
