  1. If this is not a wind up then this type of post pisses me right off. What the hell is anybody doing with a gun that cant identify an English/grey partridge.Perhaps Im too old school but I did my apprentiship with a pair of binos and bird book before shooting anything.Of couse people have to learn but shooting it and hanging it on here for identification is embarrassing for anyone who knows the crack.Anybody answering these half wits is only encouraging this sort of behaviour. This sort of thing amongst others will be the end of country life as we know it. :realmad:
  2. Frain really should check and double check what hes told before writing and printing it.
  3. Would it be true to say that frain has stepped into the fantasy shoes of the late plummer?According to a couple of very well respected terrier men ,his book "the patterdale terrier" is nothing short of liableless drival.
  4. The hornet fell foul of the progress thing I think. When I was younger the hornet was THE fox round along with the 222.As lamps and tele sights have got better ,the 223 has stepped into their place as it is considered by many as the ultimate flat firing ,long distance round, and rightly so .Personally I get more satisfaction from getting close to a fox at night either by squeeking it in or stalking out to a wary one.Shooting a fox at 250 yds with a 223 is not for me as it requires no bushcraft ,only marksmanship.A fox shot with the smaller calibres is worth 5 with a big un.
  5. Old long ears has to be out as she has no bury to get in.Rabbits will wait until the early morning sun to feed on frosty nights. The lurchers are ok running as long as the frost is not yet in the ground .In other words go out earlier. We tend to abandon running about 9pm and try a few rats around the farm buildings.
  6. Doubled up ,tripled up,or packed up you still got to get the buggers close enough,Quality lads
  7. Personally mate I try to keep the dog on a lead when exercising, unless Im 100% sure of no earths about.Rabbit spots can be dug out overnight and all of a sudden you have a dig on when your supposed to be somewhere else.[been there].Some years ago I used to do a bit of mooching with a lad who kept 2 russells. These were allowed to run free every where. Our walk from his place took us past a large mansion which unknown to us was the winter residence of a prominent M.P.We walked the iron railings of the boundary as we always did but on this occassion the dogs roused a cat from the bushes and down t

  10. On a visit to Dumfrithshire 2year ago ,I saw some tiny deer tracks and pointed them out to the stalker. He assured me they were of a roe fawn but having seen muntjac prints on a daily basis around my place I begged to differ. The last day of our stalking ,one of the other newly arrived guests saw a munty from the cabin window .The stalker was adament that no muntjac were that far north. On our way back down south we called in to a pub and got talking to the landlord about deer. The subject of muntjac was raised and where Id seen the slots and he explain that he knew the estate and that the stalker

  17. alright m.runner personaly i would of showed it something by now, what i normally do is from day one tease it with rabbit skins every other day wright up to 5-6 months, then i will drop a couple of live rabbits in a confined space not to much of a run but a chase and kill.then i would leave it off till about 9-10 month and drop a few live rabbits in a big field on nutral ground.now realy your away, just lamp it lightly for the next couple of month and hopefully thats it.to be honest i dont normally show mine a day time hare until 13-14 month if i can help it,good luck with the pup, marc
  18. Personally ,I wouldnt start a terrier on either of these quarry.Depending on the breed and temperment,I would let the younster have a look at some rats around 7-8 months old and depending on how it progressed with these I would allow the young dog to explore KNOWN safe holes at around the year old mark.In between this period the terrier usually self enters to rabbit.People have said in the past to keep a digging dog off the rabbits but Ive found that once started on bigger stuff the terrier will prefer it to rabbits and not mess you about. The secret with any dog in the early stages is not to o
  19. Mate -All these previous methods are o.k but are likely to scare the pup if its not done much ratting.7 months old is not too late to introduce the pup to a ferret ,and I dont mean to kill it.This is by far the oldest and most efficient method of ratting, and the most satisfying for the hunter.Get the pup used to playing with ferrets and generally used to their shape and ways.People say dont use a finder collar on a ratting ferret but personally I do .Nothing worse than not knowing where the ferret has killed .Use one of the micro collars.this combination is not only quiet but kills more rats I
  20. Propper job mt.Just as well it wasnt a wide angled lens though eh.Might have seen terrier prints coming on behind?
