  1. Just to add to the summer ferretting thing-Some years ago,I worked for a rabbit clearance society. The work was all year round ,mostly gassing but some customers wouldnt have them gassed but paid their fees for clearance like the rest .We,3 in all had to ferret year round on these farms and learnt a fair bit about lay-ups and net skippers.Luckily ,the main of the work was on chalk downs, the buries being open and just holes in the ground. We always collared any ferret to ground as collars were supplied.[lucky me ]. We half heartedly netted buries but never worried about the odd bolt hole in cove
  2. Just an observation but no-one has mentioned the bedding .You have to clean out and deflea the living quarters with any flea killing spree, otherwise you risk re-infecting the ferret/dog from the living place.
  3. The corn round us is growing like mad ,well be lucky to see them at all.
  4. If its on his face then be carful how you apply it.this stuff is slightly caustic so wear gloves .The correct thing to do is dip the whole dog which no-one has explained. This is when it gets expensive .By treating the affected area you are not killing any mites travelling along the body .Personally I use ADVOCATE made by Bayer from the vets. This is not a cure but a prevention in the first place. you not read my reply proper then [bANNED TEXT] as i said bath the dog! To effect a CURE with this stuff it has to be used neat ,no mixing with water and the dog has to be submerged not bat
  5. Nothing wrong with having a good looking worker though.
  6. Ive got nothing but admiration for anyone working a breed not commenly worked . To answer your question"do foxes carry parvo",the answer is no and it most certainly came with the lurcher .Some dogs are carriers of this disease but show no signs of it until some sort of trauma happens ie the move to different surroundings.Sorry to hear abou the pups.
  7. Like its been said, make the mixture oily. The normal mix for a 2 stroke is 20-1 ,so make it 25-1. Use the smoker in bursts of flat out and stop.Often rats will bolt when you walk away so keep an eye on what you have already done.
  8. How long does the average lizard hunt last Kye. I had a russel that pointed frogs in the grass and ate the bloody things .Froth ,guts and slime and then a good old throw up.Cant beat it .
  9. Why anyone would WANT to register any working breed with the K.C is beyond me .Working qualities are sacrificed for the sake of churning out pups for money.
  10. Dont know how far south you were but around us ,muntjac stalking is sold to European rifles for good money .Maybe why the restriction applied. Where you told to shoot these specimens as I notice they dont have the prized tusks.Maybe the keeper is saving them for a guest .Only an observation.
  11. Being that low I would think squirrels werent the only threat.Stoats and weasels hunt part way up trees too.Best set up 3 fens and a double entry cage trap to be sure. Joking aside mate ,nice photos Fancy bit of coustom woodwork on the rifle .I like it.

  13. The running will be ok mate ,its the healing of the op that might cause problems as you cant stop the tail from being wagged against hard surfaces.Pad the end of the tail well or it will be an ongoing problem that will never heal. good luck .foxdropper.
  14. Border line anarchy.God save the queen.
  15. Quality mate -never knew there were so many variants. In Briton though they generally revert to black or brown with a white chest .
  16. personally Id rather have a days mink hunting.
  17. Pickaxe and Mik-Regardless of the fours and against tail docking ,I would not like to see yet another liberty taken away -enforced upon us.Personal choice is eroded every day in this excuse for a democracy,so let the breeder decide I say .Terriers look hideous with arched tails in my opinion.
  18. DONT LET ANY VET TALK YOU INTO DOCKING A DOG WHEN ITS OLDER .loads of problems with healing . The art of docking tails is not a mistery.Any terriermen worthy of the name will dock his own pups and I suspect the same applies to the gundog breeds.
  19. What i want to know is will they work week in week out to fox and stay to be dug to like other breeds or has this been largely bred out of them .Not knocking other forms of terrier work I just want to know. Dont be shy ,say it as it is.YES OR NO .
  20. Good for you .The question is do plumbers make good earth dogs ,if given the chance,or are they too special to be worked in this way ?.After all, they are still terriers. Did the geat man breed away from earth going stock to create the best ratting dog alive or has the JRT influence ensured there is still the desire to do battle underground? ps not a dig at anyone ,if you pardon the pun.
  21. Several years ago I owned a cracking lurcher,grey/collie to a whippet/lakeland.She was mustard on the roe but hadnt seen any bigger deer until one night I picked out a fallow buck and doe ,feeding alongside a river.I was up on a bank overlooking this and decided the time was right for her introduction.Slipped the dog and was concerned to see the buck stand its ground and thrash its antlers .The doe was off but the dog decided the buck was her target. We were a bit near a private estate  and so rather than let the dog make any noise ,I decided to lend a hand there and then .I was beside
  22. Just a thought -Would it be the same with no laws to break?Adrenaline would be a thing of the past.
  23. You kill that fecker as soon as poss mate .It will find a way to lift the bar otherwise and be gone.
  24. Personally I believe the dog fox plays no part in the rearing of cubs.
