    I know that this is an ancient post but I've recently bought an old IJ27 Baikal which had the same problem with the safety coming on after the first shot. It takes 5 mins to fix and the gun becomes a simple manual safety afterwards. Take the butt plate off,,then the stock to reveal the back of the action. Push the top lever over and partly open the gun. You can see both hammers or tumblers move back about 3/4" from the back of the breech and between them a thin strip of metal that's twisted at the top end which seats up under the safety catch.     Two things you can do to cure this. First,,remove the inside springs,,which retract the legs,,if you have that type. Just push the split pin out of the rubber foot to release the lower end of the spring,,then undo the top,pivot bolt to release the top of the spring,,,then throw it away. The second solution is to do with the lower mounting for the external spring. Check to see if the spring is touching the leg anywhere.If it is,,get a grip of the lower mount with some Mole Grips or something similar,,and simply rotate it round the leg untill the spring has some clearance.     Rockmount are fine,,,I use these and the Harris type and find no difference in performance and the quality issue is a non-starter on a gun prop. It either works or it doesn't. One thing though,,,,,if you get the spring retracting one,,,take it to pieces and remove the springs. They really serve no usefull purpose,,and make a hell of a racket every time you move or touch the damn thing.

    Its worth a look on here,,http://www.rapid7ownersclub.com for some good advice on what configuration to go for. A chap called Fluffybuck has some first class data on power levels/barrel length etc. It boils down to sticking between 25 and 30ft/lbs to get the best shot count and not waste air,,with either a 16" or 19" barrel. That way,,you get a reasonable range of pellet sizes/weight that your barrel may like and will stay stable in flight. Higher power FAC air tends to be stuck with Bis Mags which may not suit your purposes. Have a play with ChairGun and see how little trajectory changes onc

    youll need to change the exhaust valve,pot,mainspring,probually a bigger tranfer port and hammer and a different spring guide,easiest thing to do is download internal diagrams of both 12ftlbs and fac and compare the differences between two And you will still end up with a pigs ear of a rifle. Do the job properly from the start and use a gun that was designed for FAC power from the outset,,ie,,a Rapid.

    It depends on the type of S410,,,if it a carbine then there will be VERY few shots at,say,25ft/lbs. The Classic gives a few more but still not enough to warrant upping the power. Also,,the cocking effort goes through the roof,,and the trigger feels awfull compared with the standard S410. Even the S410E,,the FAC level rifle from Air Arms is not very well received. Far better to sell the S410 at 12ft/lbs and buy a Rapid7 allready converted to FAC. The comparative prices won't be too far apart.

    Quite right,,,though you can gut them. We supply many hundreds each year both to game dealers/butchers and direct to eateries with no problems.

    This .22 S410 carbine was originally built as a night vision rifle for me by Ben Taylor and has a couple of usefull features to that end. First,,Ben fitted his superb regulator,,which now gives over 100 shots at a rock steady 11.5 ft/lbs,,which means that you can be sure of consistant poi,and one less thing to consider when rangefinding with NV. Second,, he drilled the top of the action to take a Weaver rail (supplied) so that most common types of NV will fit straight on. I used one of Clive Wards Falcon scopes and it was fine.     I'm from Gods own county and have been shooting/rabbiting in the Dales for ages. Just recently I,ve been assisting an experienced ferreter and it was a complete eye opener to see the skill involved in the job. Now I'm a total convert and get out with the ferrets whenever possible.
