Most complete feeds are made to meet the needs of 'pet' dogs and so may not suit workers. I suppliment with meat, bones veg and table scraps to individuel needs. Mine have plenty of energy are healthy, easily able to tolerate a nights lamping, multiple sprints, or a long run with me, 6 or 7 miles steady paced including at least half free running on beach and burrows. At the end of the day it's about the right balence of carb, protein and fats the source doesn't realy matter as long as it's digestable. The dogs body doesn't care if it's protein comes from a chickens beak or it's breast cooked

Firstly get her spayed and that should help abit The problem being that she has learnt that by doing these behaviours she does not get disturbed or bothered by your mum or brother & last night she was just showing them more of a warning as she knows they are below her now & she wants to put them in her place.. Personally i would spay her & have the people who she has showed aggression too feed her everyday & start to do most of the walking with her in a way where she knows she is a follower & no pack leader.. Good luck

read the same book, one of the best to understand what was exported to the Américas and what was used. excellent post! :clapper: Any other good books i should keep my eye out for???? also reading the canine social oder by r abrantes phd, so i do try & get a fair judgement & lots of views on everything todo with dogs. I just love all the history & just thinking about the journeys this breed has made over hundreds of years yet its still pretty similar to the "good ol days " & more importantly its still there with all the crap with throw at it " Now thats a true te -

So true as most people think he was a famous fighting dog but he was a great producer of fighting dogs like Bolio or chinaman even the eli & redboy stuff & they really were breed millions of tmes and have become huge influences in todays dogs, when you think of fighting pits no one can say that was the best dogs but afew come to mind like Zebo, i even heard some good of colbys pinscher then further back we go to the boyles stuff & armitage pits, i like youself butch find this subject fascinating, more for the heritage it brings up & all the history that we can still look at tod -
Dobermann with skin rash
richard25 replied to little nell's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Difiniatly looks like somekind of allergy or my guess would be plant stings as your dog does have short fur & the areas infected seem to be in balder areas my sisters staffie gets exactly the same problem and we allways just thought it was some type of allergy or weed stings as her dog is a shot haired dog like yours, she does not seem to get it over the winter months so it does lead you to think its diffiniatly someype of plant causing the damage. She usually just puts loads of sudocream on the infected areas and leaves, i think the only other alternative is try not going to the s -
I think you on the right track allready mate, with your plans & if you know anyone that will let you walk your dog around there pens etc that would be great & just try & keep a good eye on his posture and if he looks like his making any bad moves toward to the sheep give him a quick correction. What i would do is take him for a real long walk first to really drain his energy out then take him right by the sheep and just keep walk alongside the pen then eventually just sit down for a minute with your backs towards the pen & see if the sheep invistigate & if they do your

Dog heaven would be just running free & being feral, as no animal wants to be controlled & ok they might like living near people settlements etc but that was only to scrounge food. Thats what i love about dogs, they dont care if you are a millionaire with a mansion, as long as they have lots of free running & time to invistigate with there noses & be out in mother nature they are happy and balanced. Maybe the answer would be to be a tramps dog and wonder the streets with its owner day & night
-
mate, if your worried about how much raw foods to use etc, get yourself down to the petshop or order online "prizechoice" its basically just minced meat or tripe ( or whichever flavour you pick ) and theres no messing around you just defrost it give it to the dog & its not pricey either. Hope everything is sorted with the dog anyway mate & goodluck

a quick sidenote, i have never seen that brindle in staffies before but i allways see that in American Bulldogs, like a tiger brindle colour. Nice Pup
-
Good for you mate & let us know how it goes with her, she only looks a couple of months old max, she looks like a little staffie x type Good luck mate & again Good for you, I hope the terrier enjoys her lol

I know & i guess its that feeling of knowing what there meant for & letting them do what they were bred to do & i think thats why i am quite torn in two about it.... especially for my big fella because i know its in his blood as his pretty much as Scotts as you can get in the UK for a AB & his dam was straight from alan scotts kennels & i have afew dvds of alot of his bloodline doing just that in catching pigs, but anygood pig hunter i have spoken too allways say about using the vest with the dog, and i do alot of work with my dogs be it PP or just out for some rabbits &am
-
Yea i would have the tools but were talking big pig couple of hundred pound and no vest for the dogs & i know usually people would use vest & this is what worries me? i dont doubt myself about dispatching the pig its more the damage it may leave on the dogs for one pig lol what dogs does everyone have? & would they?

There are probably some real decent books out there but what i find myself doing is printing some good articles of the net & i keep them all in a folder for later reading ( sad git i am lol ) & you can find some real good articles on the net these days is just working out the good ones from the bad... Good luck and let us know if ya find any good ones

Like others said it could just be a ligament problem in which it will take awhile to sort out especially being that he is a pup it also could be something like a joint problem or disfiguration ( which is basically dysplasia ) or osteoarthritis in which that usually would be the case after having a long run they tend to stiffen up & kinda shudder there infected areas ie back legs etc, and especially in this weather arthritis is shite, or it could just be a stupid sprain thats taking its time & without a good look its hard to tell, is there any inflammation? Does he have any pain when

Mackem, You know i was thinking that straight away... lol So True On a serious note though we really do have such vast numbers of different species of deer that having more natural predators would be a good thing & this is what they want to do at Allardale by reintroducing wolfs along with a bunch of other animals... Personally i love the fact we have so much wildlife in this country & the majority of people dont realise whats just outside there front door.
-
the number of most species of deer is rapidly climbing due to the fact that dont have alot of natural predators, i was listening to a gentlemen from the allardale project ( in scotland ) talking about this the other day & i think over the next ten years especially in more city areas we will see the numbers increase dramatically. Well plenty of dog food & some tasty venison hot pots Mmmm lol
-
hahahaha That was a good one, one day i will try that...

Mate, i use Prozyme probiotics & touch wood i have not had to go to the vets for anything in the past three years & its just a powder supplement you add to your dogs food. I started this as Harley ( my AB ) was a pup & kept getting reacurring ear infections & the vet just gave us antibiotics & it would go & literally a day after coming off them the inffection would be back so i started using the probiotic supplement in all my dogs diets as its a great allrounder & he has not had any type of infections since & awhile back now my sisters dogs had kennel cough

GIVE A DOG A GOOD HOME < STOP THE PASSING ABOUT >
richard25 replied to jackard's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
You all make excellent points here & i truly believe its moe about the bond you make in working together than in the end will shine through & to many people try to use the "bad breeding" when really it just needed some effort. Good example here is a old friend had a dog he thought could not catch a thing, he did have him for some time but you could tell that they were not a team so he gave the lovely mutt away to a relative of mine & i got a call a couple of weeks later saying that the dog kept coming in from the field with rabbits lol Funny world ay We are a nation of dog -
Got sent this and thought it had a nice sentiment!
richard25 replied to bullmastiff's topic in General Talk
Thats a nice story mate, and i could not agree more with the ending about sharing more of the good times in life instead of allways talking about the bad things people do... -
Goodluck mate Dont worry about what everyone says, but i would say if it was a big cat you were really lucky & i would go back night after night without the dogs just to try & get some evidence as, as you said you seen him your allready ahead of most & if you could get some good evidence you could shut everyone up. Personally i would just stand there in awe as what a creature & it would be quite the sight to see something like that in the UK
-
Theres been alot of conversations on here about them but i personally think they are out there as there were so many as pets upto 1979 then people have even come forward & said they released them so i think there there personally. THeres quite alot of websites with information on the big cat sightings in the uk so have a good look through & if anyone wants to ever go out looking " Im IN"

if you want to give the dog & the pups the best of everything, i would say first make sure shes a good worker, then wait until shes about three as whats the rush, then you should be on the road to a nice litter & it is true about breeding to young, you have smaller litters & more sickly pups in general.
