  2. OK this may sound like a very beginner like question but can anybody point me towards which choke to use and when. I have a Lanber multi choke and have no idea which to use when. This is what happens when you upgrade from a cheap Baikal! Many thanks. Cheers Al

  6. Hello All I'm looking for some help. Where can i find a list of guides who take people pigeon shooting? Tried BASC, shooting times etc ads, there are some but nearly all a long way away i.e. Scotland, cracking country though it is i am looking a bit closer to home. I live in West Wales, but would be consider Welsh Border counties, e.g. Glos, Worcs etc. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Aled
  7. I did the Rural Resource Management diploma because i wanted to live and work in a counryside/conservation field. I thoroughly enjoyed studying the subject but i could not get work in this field at all. I do live in a rural area, but had to carve out a career elsewhere and now work in regenerating deprived areas. However the course itself was excellent and i went on to do a degree in the subject. Without a doubt it has helped me in my career but its more to do with having the letters BSc after my name than the subject i studied. Hope this helps. However some of my friends did get what they wan
  8. Nothing wrong with Rizzini guns my brother has got one "a grafter" as we'd say. However have you considered a good conditon lanber? Cheers Aled
  9. I wish it would stop raining for a bit, river is very high at the moment. Tight Lines Aled
  10. When i lived in Cardiff a great place to get worms after heavy rain was from the soil between the cracks in the pavement, or close to the wall or at the base of urban trees. They were easy to see in the orange street lamps. Would suggest you wear garden gloves though dog mess a potential hazard. I was once asked by a Policeman what i was doing crouched next to a primary school wall at 11pm in a waterproof cammo jacket. Thankfully one of the policemen was a barbel angler and impressed with my worm collection! This may sound like a joke but i promise you its not. I'll be out one the pavements
  11. I love seeing kids enjoying field sports. My boy is 2 in September and has a strong attraction to water (or dwr as we call it in Welsh). I often wonder where he gets that from ....do you think it could be anything to do with his great Grandfather, Grandfather, and Fathers passionate love of Fishing? Cheers Aled
  12. Bangers and Mash , peas and gravy, washed down with a can of bitter! Cheers Aled
  13. Lots of brown water on my river Tywi at the moment too high for any serious fishing, and with more rain on the way... Cheers Aled
  14. They are pretty quick if you are in the wrong! ......to be fair i've had an honest and professional service from them, after i got my first certificate, getting that was a bit more difficult, make sure your referee is good and you should be OK. Cheers Aled
  15. Buckleys Brains IPA a little known bitter served in Cardiff's proper pubs combined with a with a silk cut ultra, kept me sane in the big city! Since marriage and kids, i hardly ever smoke, and do not visit the pub as often as i used to. So every Friday night at 9pm, double gin and tonic with ice and lemon. OK a bit camp ....maybe but life for me is always about not following the crowd. Tight Lines Aled
  16. The bloke i called Grandad (its a long story but he wasnt my biological Grandad but he'll always be my "Grancha") was in the DDay landings and got wounded 2 during WW2. One of my biggest regrets of my life to date is that i did not take him down the club, buy him a pint and ask him to tell me about his War, i think i would of learnt a lot about whats important in life! Some of these stories are very interesting. Cheers Aled
  17. I've been there Kiwi Yep so have i, but being rather posh i got one of those sweat suits made of heavy plastic £6.99 from ebay fantastic to wear during a 25 mile mountain bike ride. By the way good on you smudger for getting back out there at 44, i know my playing days are well and truly over. Cheers Aled
  18. Finshed reading her book yesterday, "Spilling the beans" it has a chapter about the Countryman series. She said the BBc would not be prepared to put it out on Video (her words) sadly, i only saw the rat hunting one. Tight Lines Aled
  19. I make traces for tandem sea trout flies using elasticum wire favoured by sea fisherman. It may be of use? Tight Lines Aled
  20. I hung up my gumshield last April at the age o 37, not bad me thinks. Now in my opinion the best thing to get that stiffness out is either a gentle swim or a visit to a jacuzzi. I certainly felt better afterwards! I played hooker so i reckon i got a bit of front row experience crouch, touch pause engage...... Good luck with the training, i had two gaps of 2 years during my career, (dislocated shoulder which needed an operation and a snapped achilles tendon which needed an operation). Plan to stay involved with the game, i'm on the club committee, a qualifed ref, first aider, and plan to help
  21. I'm pleased that you've got your photo, but i see so many otters in West Wales that i've become rather blase about it! Nearly every night or dawn fishing session i see otters, they've followed my flies/spinners accross pools, popped up next to me at 2am scaring the life out of me, and best of all, a mother with two young throwing a sea trout about the pool i believe she was teaching them to hunt. Get yourself to the West of Wales kvn. Tight Lines Aled
  22. I'm struggling at the moment big flood arrived on Sunday morning, however when she settles next week we could be in for some great sport. Tight Lines Aled
  23. I bought a Lanber for the same price, i've bought it as a "next step" gun after my old Baikel personally i'm pleased with it. Cheers Aled
  24. As a bit of an aside, its great to see TV chefs showing an active interest in using field sports to provide food. Don't know about the rest of you but i feel a strong sense of honesty when i catch/shoot someting for the table. The prepartion (e.g. gutting, filleting/jointing etc) then eating. Not all of my meat comes from a cellaphane wrapped package in Tesco's! Tight Lines Aled
