Great pictures Tracey.....looks the perfect combination there......them old springers never stop working and they will find anything thats going. Good to see the dogs working as a team.......that blue bitch looks superb....she'll turn into a cracking worker. Nice to be out in the fresh air even if it is cold enough to freeze your what-nots off

Jonh.......you rarely if ever find fox prints in grassland or pasture unless its at a ditch crossing point or muddy gateway. Look for easy access points like under stock fences or gaps in hedges or rough grass areas. If you can find a field with a partially opened gate these are terrific snaring places. The fields i snare are mostly surrounded by deep ditches and dyke's and i like to snare the crossing points as it is so easy to distinguish exactly where the fox jumps and lands. If you have a lot of rabbit runs foxes love to run these as well and i have snared many a fox around the muzzle in a

As i understand it the term "p***y" derived from the fact that Romany Gypsies used camp on the outskirts of villages usually at a crossroads or junctions and these were known as" turnpikes" and the general consensus is that it originated from there. Because the Romany Gypsy was quite dark skinned it was thought that they may have originated in Egypt and the word Gypsy may well have been an abbreviation of the term Egyptian........ but this is often refuted.

Well Chump.......or chimp.....I can't remember seeing you in the chatroom either before or after it became a donators area only, unless of course you are one of the many banned members that re-appear under a different name to stir up trouble. Nobody forces anybody to donate to the site so if you don't want to use the chatroom facilities then stay out........simple as that. Since becoming a donators area only the chatroom has become a place where members can come in and have a chat and a laugh without fear of being intimidated my brain dead morons coming in purely to cause trouble. The site c

Obviously a child will want some parental supervision if using a knife to carve a face on a pumpkin........that's just common sense really...........we don't want any accidents do we. Great idea for a competition Tracey.....................Can't wait to see the entries.......So come on guys and gals get those entries in and good luck. Rolfe.

The situation is simple as i see it.....! No one forces anyone to pay a fiver to enter the chatroom if you choose to enter the chatroom then there are certain rules that need to be adhered too to let the room run smoothly and these are pinned for all to see so there can be no excuses for not understanding and abiding by them. The chatroom was in the last chance saloon and something had to be done to prevent those hell bent on causing trouble from re-entering after being removed from the site. The solution (apart from shutting the chatroom down) was to make it a donators area only and this has

What do you Reckon did the damage........?
Rolfe replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Well........here's the answer then. At first i suspected rat due to the considerable damage but despite setting several Snap-e rat traps (as well as anticoagulant bait) not a single rat was caught or indeed showed any further signs of being there. What i did catch or find dead though........... was eleven (11) FIELD MICE of varying ages and sizes obviously quite a family colony. So Chalky.............you were correct in your assumption that FIELD MICE were to blame...........they tend to do far more damage than your ordinary house mouse. Another certain giveaway that FIELD MICE are presen -
Right............was called in to sort out a rodent problem in an old wooden chalet.........carpeted and everything. Evidence was there of mouse AND rat activity............What would you say caused the damage to this nice guys pair of waders.........poor sod had only worn them once. Not trying to be clever or catch anybody out...........look at the evidence and tell me rat or mouse........and what are your reasons for thinking what it might be. Rolfe

A couple of pictures for the mole trappers
Rolfe replied to Steve Albano's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Here is a Golden mole that was one of three i caught in the same garden over the period of a week (apologies as i have shown the picture a few times). Makes me smile because it was from the garden of a National Lottery winner who had just won £3.5 Million.........even had golden moles as well...! I did notice in your picture Steve that the mole had NO digging implements (nails) to it's front feet..........just thought this was unusual to see as it could certainly dig ok judging by the hills it had thrown up. They are quite unusual to catch over here these Apricot or Golden moles..........but -

I banned you from chat last night for exactly the reasons JT stated.........we don't need brain dead morons making comments like that in an open chat room...........!

First rabbiting job of the season yesterday........was called in by a regular client who informed me he had exactly 10 rabbits in his garden that wanted removing..........but what a garden.........it is all conifer and shrub beds that are impossible to net it the normal way so it is just a case of wrap the longnet round and slip the ferrets in. The first thing that shot out was a rather irate peacock that cleared the net with ease..........quickly followed by a few rabbits. We finished the two hour session with nine rabbits in the bag of various sizes.........with one kill in........so he was

A terrifed client rang me up on Friday to say a large rat had jumped past her shoulder (it was sitting on a window sill) as she opened the back door of her terraced property the previous evening. I asked if it was trapped in the kitchen and she assured me it was still there.........so i asked if i could bring the terrier to find and kill the pesky thing. Anyway..........after ransacking her kitchen for a few minutes the dog marked in a corner where the pipes ran under the floor. There was more than enough room for a good sized rat to disappear down there and this is where the dog was telling

Bought a job lot of Grey Squirrel feed hoppers the other day and the very nice gentleman threw in a couple of the large forestry commission multicatch squirrel cages and this hand made cage trap that I think may be a crayfish trap.......(as it came from a fishing lodge next to a reservoir). It has a bait compartment in the centre and has adjustable sloping ends. I am assuming that it is a crayfish trap........but not 100% sure to be honest. It had a long cord attatched to it so it is definately used underwater.......could it have been used for eels maybe? Any thoughts would be appreciated.....

A regular client of mine has been having problems with 4 magpies Taking the Duck eggs on her pond. I arrived with larsen trap and decoy bird (borrowed from the local game keeper) In one day i had caught all 4 birds..........which were given back to the gamekeeper to use in some of his 47 larsen traps. Got paid.............Everyone Happy. The client was having the ridge renewed on her beautiful thatched cottage at the same time as i was there........Lovely to see these traditional crafts are still flourishing...............Thatching as well:

It's always a problem when there is an abundant natural food resource to cage trap squirrels.......there is simply so much food around. Tunnel traps on the ground........a Kania.....or if it is safe to do so.........take them from the feeding trees with an air-rifle....i have been doing just that this week and have taken them from the hazel trees as they sit there feeding on the nuts............A nice stationary head shot works every time. Rolfe.

I think a lot of the youngsters are frightened to ask basic questions because they fear being ridiculed and think it may be a stupid question. I have helped loads of genuine youngsters on here........but usually do it quietly through PM. As has been said, we all have had to start somewhere and so i will say to any newcomers out there ask your questions no matter how daft you think it may be and someone will give you the help you need.. Rolfe.

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts.........they are much appreciated. She is a such a relatively young bitch that it was NOT an option not to try and get her back to full health. She has given me so much pleasure as a faithful worker it was the least i could do to give her a chance.........some said the other option would have been easier........i don't think so. Yes it was hard work keeping her confined to a cage, lifting her here there and everywhere........but it was well worth the effort. I am looking forward to working her as normal this coming season. It is true my heart will be in

Just a post to say that even after a really bad break to her front leg my lurcher bitch is well on the mend. She broke both bones to her front leg last winter jumping a ditch in the snow and had to have her leg plated and pinned at an extortionate cost (she wasn't insured) ............But the good news is she is about 98% back to normal, so if anyone goes through a similar experience there is light at the end of the tunnel. Took her and my other lurcher out today with the harvester with the hope of a few easy bunnies.........but rain stopped play and it was a joy to watch her hurdling the row

A customer of mine photographed one this year on her Lavender bush and sent the picture to me for identification ....amazing creatures for sure........just like a humming bird. They are not common around here ..........indeed i had never seen one before she showed me the picture. Rolfe.
