    Its not good practice to highlight bad spelling and grammer and them miss the L from English Good on you for trying to give the dogs a second chance "L" , "L " ! I always forget that one. I post to over 30 forums for benifit of the dogs and more hits means more people see it and so I can learn more from experts, such as yourselves.     I trained and competed with all kinds of old guys for 30 years so your comments are generally predictable. I've only had purebred AKC registered, Field Champion hunting dogs so the idea of working the mix of breeds like the dogs you guys have in your profiles, is foreign to me. I'm finding it fun. Never know what kind of skills these dogs may have here in Alaska. Daisy seems to be a pretty good rabbit dog, proveing it last weekend bring home 3 snowshoes for Sunday dinner.     Last fall a dog found us, a Great Dane X Greyhound. One thing led to another and started a new passion. www.aklurcher.com is the result. In the last few months I have found even more sight hound mixes and wondered how these warm weather dogs were ending up here and breeding. This week I found my third sight hound mix that came from a mushing kennel. Like in any breeding program, some dogs just do not work out. Bad coat, not the right temperament, or other reasons they do not make it to a team. I’d like to help find homes for these dogs, called “Lurchers†in the UK. The sight hound mix

    Fellow hunters: I want to tell you that in the research of this book "Forever Home: adopted dogs and the humans that love them" I evolved from a pedigree snob to being very open to finding potental talent in the shelters. To have balance, I had to limit retrievers, recieving more rescued and abandon stories from that group than any other. I feel that breeders need to give back to the rescue groups because, quite frankly, many finely bred dogs end up at shelters or are left to breed indicriminantly, creating a large mixed breed population.     Yes I have my small game license and hunt grouse with the my Labs. We have hares they are turning white like the fox and Ptarmigan, no cottontail. fox and martins are here as well but I'm not crazy about her tangling with those. ? Dont they bite back? Bears and moose are the other game but you are correct, can t use dogs and thats Charlie's job to get those. I just walk around with a gun or hide in the car in the case of bears. Out 16 lb Tabby cat brought me ermin but I need 10 more for a hat:-) Oh yes and then there is Daisy's cat. She was always on lead when she tried to chase the cat outs

    Here in Alaska we have darkness from arround 5 pm to 9 am so we do go out with flashlights and I sometimes wear a head lamp during new moon. Very dark with no snow on the ground yet. Im pretty nervous about the woods in the dark though. We are in a populated area but not too many fences, some barbed wire . Most of it is unfenced except at the dairy farms. I dont know what kind of training she had in her first year. She does know basic obedience that I am reenforcing with treats and pets so far. I know in the UK you dont use or condone electric collars but I do use them on my Labs and Dais

    Also on the introduction topic but it looked like it belonged here as well. Hello, Daisy and I are new to this site. We are in Alaska. Since I got her, I have been searching for more information about Lurchers. While people seem to have a passing knowledge of them I think they need to be elevated to a desirable hybrid. Greyhounds were bred into sled dogs for a while in the 1980s but and there are a few sight hound owners here but due to the winter conditions they special care. What I haven’t found until you site is how to hunt with them. I have raised and trained Labradors for 25 years

    Hello, Daisy and I are new to this site. We are in Alaska. Since she found us when she was wandering 40 miles from the nearst town, I have been searching for more information about Lurchers. She was chipped and her shelter information said Greyhound/Great Dane. I checked with breeders of both and they confirm the traits. Accidents happen, we have a poodle/greyhound in our hound club.
