  1. Just to add, there is never any aggression in our pack. one dog doesnt grumble at the other. at feeding times they are all expected to sit and they get to eat as their names are called, in order of their age. they are not posessive over toys or chews or catches (rabbits) they have never shown aggression to either of us. Many people have asked me how my dogs are so well trained and why dont they pull on the lead, or bark a lot. I like to think i run a tight ship. I expect perfect behaviour from them and if this isnt the case i will discipline as neccessary, regardless of the situation.
  2. hello all, I am the 'wife' in this situation. Since this post was originally written we havent had many incidents. About a month ago ollie had a go at parker in the car just before i got them out as I pushed parker further back into the boot, i believe ollie saw this as i was getting parker, and so should he, fortunately in this situation parker put him nicely in his place. Parker used to have a bit of a problem with meeting other male dogs out and about, but with training he is very good, not having any issues with male dogs for at least 1 and half years. So when this happened parker held ol
  3. do you have any puppies left its for a friend
  4. Hello all, Went out for a mooch this morning with our pack and Herdwicks pack of lurchers and terriers. Pup is learning and watching what everyones job is and is very keen to get involved but she just stayed on the lead. This crappy weather means we're not doing too much with our dogs at the moment, not until the ground has softened a little, so they're all very keen for a morning's bushing time. Came home with one rabbit, which was more than we we're expecting as they are becoming few and far between on the land now, although new signs of them where they havent been seen before which
  5. Here's my Jack Russel cross whippet. Excellent worker does more than i thought he would be capable of.
  6. well, she wasn't actually ferreting, just watching, best way to learn IMO, she learnt to sit and wait and watch, just what parker does before he catches If you look on the pic of me crouched with her you can see she is on a lead, so not running around chasing anything, plus we werent putting nets up and down, so it was only 2hours we were out for. agree if she was walking for that long it would be too much for a 3month pup, but she just learnt to watch and be quiet. all valuable skills. we took parker out as soon as he had had his jabs and is brilliant ferreting.
  7. Last one end of the day, Willow was really tyring to climb up on my lap to sleep....awww.
  8. So Willow is 3 months old now, and we thought we would take her out with Parker, the experienced ferreter, to show her the ropes. We just wanted her to get an idea of whats going on, avoid the ferrets and know whats coming out of the holes! So we only took 2 ferrets and no nets, just to bolt out for Parker. W were returning to a bit of old permission that had apparently been well ferreted by some by the 'new boys' so as we approached the fields were werent expecting a big catch, if any! We got to the first bury that parker marked and popped the ferts down, and out popped a rabbit. Parker
  9. i have a first cross jack russel terrier x whippet and he has no problems with rabbits, hes about 21inches tts but stocky than your one, he's absolutely brilliant at ferreting. As far as excercise goes, dont overdo it, the people on here talking about running marathons at 11 dont have a clue, its more like taking a 4 year old on a marathon, and yes it would damage the bones, just take things easy it would bugger up you dog by not waiting a little bit and then you have many years of good running and no vet trips!
  10. he's gorgeous, nice little size like my parker . A nice x my next bought one will be something along those lines
  11. our dogs get blackthorns in their feet all the time (especially tyla the accident prone one!) i hot poultice the foot, if the foot is swelling or swollen its because their is an infection. the hot salty water draws out the infection. Once the foot has been standing in hot water for about 10mins dont dry it and wrap it in either animalintex or failing that sanitary towels work quite well. wrap the foot up quite tightly and this should draw out the infection and the pressure of it will push out the blackthorn. you probably wont know if the thorn it still in there unless you have actuall
  12. My lurcher gets really depressed if she is in season so working her is the way forward, one year she had an injury just before she came into season and she was so depressed! there are reasons not to though depends what she's like
  13. I will let you know when i find someone with a good working whippet! I have attached a couple more pics of him posing
  14. Thanks, yeah he is first cross, he stands at 21inchs tts. Does everything incredibly, an excellent ferreting dog, and so easy to train and he is very game! I would like to put him over a whippet bitch, or a whippet greyhound.
