£800 my vet has quoted me, including 3 re-dressings apparently. luckily I've got insurance so will probably just go to them anyway as the dogs familiar with the them.

Cheers, think I'll still go with amputation, he was quoting £1800 for that procedure and it didnt sound great for the dog, and apparently had about 80% success rate, so considering how its gone so far it probably wouldn't work anyway and would end up amputating in the end

I've tried to get a second opinion from this guy: GREYHOUND TOE INJURIES | Dr. Mike Guilliard WWW.MIKEGUILLIARD.CO.UK He is suggesting the fixator and removal of the nail and saying that it works most of the time. Just waiting to see what he is charging. We did have an xray originally and it wasn't broken just dislocated. This is what he says about the fixator option: The application of an external fixator across the joint, applied to either the top joint (metacarpal/tarsal phalangeal) or middle joint (P1/P2) gives predictable excellent results with m

Yes just the toe and I'll make sure to tell them the right one!

OK thanks, I'll probably just tell them to completely remove it completely then

Vet finally got back to me today, he spoke to a greyhound vet who advised that we put a fixator in through the bone 4 weeks attaching to the other toe, and also permanently remove the nail. I was hoping he was just gonna say get rid of the toe, but when I asked he said it was quite an important toe for cornering. Bit reluctant to put a fixator in as it's impossible to stop her jumping on/off the sofa without crating her which I don't wanna do and not sure if it would cause damage jumping on and off sofa with a fixator in. The other options are amputate the toe, or just permanently remove the n

Thanks, I am waiting to hear back from the vet. It wasn't swollen, its popped out again on a walk the other day, doesn't seem to be in any pain at all when it pops out, and pops right back in. She is also fine running around in the garden, just seems to be knocking it at an awkward angle that knocks it out. Hoping at this stage the vet suggests removing it. She is not a working dog so as long as she can run about as normal in the garden and in fields then we will be happy enough. The vet was hesitant as it was an outside toe but hoping that won't be an issue and she will get used to running wi

@Ben Bowen sorry just seen this. What is the latest with yours? My outcome was taped to the other toe and bandaged for about 6 weeks. Had to re-dress every 5 days at the vets so was a bit of a nightmare. Also caused a few sores. Bandage been off about a month now. Increased walking and activity gradually back to full normal walking. Also been trimming nails regularly. Then the other day she walked into the back of me when I stopped during a walk and somehow managed to dislocate it again. No idea how it happened off such a small impact on the back of my leg as she has been jumping off the sofa

Thanks, so no lead walking at all initially you think? Our normal vet told us we could lead walk. We've got it in a bandage and a protective boot during the walks and have just been doing 10-15 mins twice a day. Will make sure to mention to the vet about taking the toe nail off next week. If it has to come off does anyone know the approx recovery time for that back to running? I am surprised it's local anaesthetic, I don't think it will be in our case as she hates the vets and barely lets them give her a stroke

Great thanks for the advice - I've rang the closest greyhound track and asked them for vet recommendations, and they have given me one who I am going to see next week. Hopefully they will just check it over and I will then give it 3 months of no messing to see if it heals.

yanib started following Whippet Dislocated Toe

Hi, my whippet Dislocated her toe last week whilst running. The outside one on her right front foot. The vet popped it back in and put a bandage on it for 3 days. Since then we've put a small bandage on to try and keep the toe from popping back out. She jumped up today and it popped back out again. I've got a pair of slippers ordered that are supposed to keep it in place more long term. Wondering what I should do from here? I am thinking just try to keep it from popping out for 6-8 weeks to allow it to heal and then lightly reintroduce running. Or will it just keep popping out now forever, in
