So if we are welcoming them with open arms why didn't the government just open all legal routes for these people, why bother with making them take the Channel crossing if they want them here, it doesn't make sense mate.

By cooperating with the likes of France & Germany and attempting to address the root causes of immigration. That's why I think calls to stop all foreign aid are silly, it's in our best interests to have stability in the places the people are fleeing, no?
