Love a dog with a big white blaze, lovely bitch that.

It would be ideal, even if everyone on here who would be interested donated say £10 each to the cause to make a prototype and then get them into production, surely they’d pay for themselves after a few sales?
-
Good idea that, I’m sure we’d all be willing to buy one if someone gave it a go?

It’s a niche market, so I’d imagine there’s not a lot of people outside the hunting community that would even have any idea what a terrier locator is, so B&F probably feel they are safe to act this way as we’ve nowhere else to turn? I’m surprised Deben never gave them any competition.

I can’t understand why they haven’t made a newer model yet. I mean they released the initial Pieps unit in about ‘05, which was a massive upgrade from the knocker boxes, but lads soon found faults with it so they brought out the red brick in about 2010. Again it was an improvement but different faults appeared, you’d think with the amount of disgruntled phone calls they must get they’d make a newer box after almost 10 years of the red box.

Bedlington stud dog Yorkshire
Rabbit Hunter replied to ADAM C's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Yes, but in an earth the aim is for you to dig the dog and get the result one way or another with your input. You enter your dogs into these rock places and you have no claim on what is going to happen, I’d doubt you could net these places so at best you’re entering your dog into a impenetrable tomb with the hope of getting a glimpse of a fleeing fox. Also to say these places can be dug nowadays with diggers and a team of lads seems a bit irresponsible and slightly selfish on your part, I mean, why should a gang of lads risk their lives in these dangerous places and stop out all night ju -

They sound dodgy places, is it really worth the life of a good terrier for the sake of bolting a fox? -
My mates box does the same thing, no idea why?

Ok mate thanks, will have a look into it??

Just for like terriers chained up etc

I like the sound of that pay monthly malarkey, I’d rather fork out £12 a month than a few hundred! What lens would be best for taking photos of dogs rather than wildlife? From say 10-30 yards away.

Hold your tongue DC...I quite like them Ridgeline Smocks?
-
Because you’ll just be another reason why the next shoot days numbers are down, like I’ve said on here before, if they’re not blaming foxes for taking birds then they’re blaming deer for knocking feeders over?. Fickle bunch are gamekeepers.

How deep did you dig the soak away Boris?

He wants to be ashamed of himself, lads like this are a scourge to the working dog world. The poor thing is flesh and blood and some scumbag is wanting to trade it for a motor, shithouse of the highest order.-- 803 replies

For an amateur terrier lad it’s a pretty simple scenario, ignore the big mouth macho men who had a dog from this line and that line and it was shit blah blah blah and instead watch the man that sticks with his own line, always has digging dogs and just gets on with the job and copy what he does. It’s so simple.

Like has been said, who are we to say when a dog is ready? It’s all personal opinion. I’ve got a dog here that is 7 month old but he’s the same height and weight as 2 of my working dogs, does that mean he’s ready? Of course not, he’s physically the right size to work but mentally he’s still a pup. Who’s to say at 14 month, 16 month, 18 month he’ll be mentally ready to work? It’s up to me to show trust in the breeding and give the dog time to show me what he is going to be. Rather than wait for him to fall at the first hurdle.

It’s an open forum for discussion, everyone has different opinions, there’s no need to get so hot under the collar about it. Back to your post HowDeep, what I’m trying to say is some terriers can start flying and slowly fade away to rubbish whereas a spooky starter or one that doesn’t look too keen can end up a world beater once the penny drops. Lads are too quick to judge a young terrier on one or two digs, I’d always say give them a until the end of their first season before making hasty decisions IMO.
-
I’ve seen a young dog come away at 14 month old and bounce out of a hole playing with the other dog that was tied up as if it was some sort of game, the same dog made it into old age as a good digging dog. Maybe a better terrier man would have put the dog down immediately? Macho bullshit results in empty kennels, I’ve seen a dog that was wanting work from 10 months old turn out a coward and on the other hand a dog that never entered until he was 19 months old be the hardest dog I’ve ever seen. There’s too much of a grey area to be making rash decisions with first season dogs.

No he was the same, didn’t care for a dead one.

I understand your viewpoint on this Glyn, but say you had an unentered pup that went to ground in an earth that you thought was only shallow but ended up say 8 foot deep. Would you expect the pup to stay there until you dug it out? Don’t get me wrong, I know there’s some terriers that are born naturals that just work and stay from day one but IMO they are a small minority.
