was reading a topic on Husky crosses and someone brought up a point that they suffer from inherited problems, hips eye conditions. i'm no genetic mastermind but cant think of a lurcher or longdog ever suffering from such conditions. I've been led to believe that a 1st cross german shepherd greyhound will never suffer from hip problems associated with the shepherd howeer a 2nd generation one might. Anyone got any experiences of inherited problems in any breeding of lurcher. (Line breeding not included, this opens up another can of worms)

Might be the bedding that was being used. had mine on straw and they went very simlar, especailly the dogs with thin skin. The thick coated dogs didn't seem to mind. Rubbed then down with diluted dettol which dried the scabs out in a day and changed them onto shavings which clearled the problem.

CounrtyHog if you intend to slag people off on here for poor spelling, then I suggest you get yours right...............caught or court...........................idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your a prick, united we stand and divided we fall. You've got permission at the minute, what happens when this media rubbish gets all dog work banned. Will you simply retire your faithfull hound/s. The lads may have been in the wrong, but I know who I support when it comes down to it. No sitting on the fence. We need to show a united front, if we segregate different parts of dog work then we hand

I've certainly added a complaint, a show which is clearly informed/misinformed by a bunch of biased, misrepresented idividuals. It also clearly showed how out of touch the police are when it comes to such matters, 'race nights at pubs'. How can these officers be asked to enforce the law when they have such favour and affection for one side and a reluctance to take a suitable stance.

Its defo 50-50 in the gene split. the problem is that [bANNED TEXT] you have hybrids your not exactly sure the percentage of what is in each dog. Thats why 5/8 3/8 bull crosses can be heavy or racy, the exact preportions of the pup is not sure. Doesn't make then any less of a dog. One thing is for certain, a good dog in good hands will always turn out to be a good dog. A good dog in bad hands will always turn out to be a bad dog.

What does the greyhound add to the mix
sidney567 replied to sidney567's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Like the replies. I personally think that the pups get 50-50 genes from mother and father, but get alot of their mental soundness and personally from their mother as thats all they know. However a friend of mine who breeds lots of dogs (spaniels, labs, lurchers and terriers) thinks its uncanny the traits they pick up from their father that they've never met. I personally think a good mother is more important than a good father. (but both are still very important) -
I was having a debate with a friend and just thought I'd put this up for everyone to have their own say. I believe the greyhound adds far more than just speed to the lurcher. I think a good greyhound bitch is essential in producing a good litter. My mate reckons all you need is an old track bitch. Before some people go off on a massive tangent, I do recognise that lots of goodlitters have came from untried track bitches but this is to the testament of the greyhound as a breed. I just think a greyhond from coursing stock is far more preferable than from track stock and as their avai

2 black bithches and 2 black dogs left. I'm putting this on behalf of a friend, I lined his bitch with my dog and these pups are left. There are three jet black pups and one black dog with a brown hue to it. They are 4 weeks old. Father is brightmore/parks and a genuine earth dog, he a 100% dog with a fantastic nature. Mother is Brightmore and is used as a bushing, ratting and rabbitting dog. Both parents can be seen £200.00 per pup. You can see a picture of the sire on my photo's, I'm trying to download some photos of the bitch and pups but struggling. Feel fr

I think what put most of the 'anti-show' boys off is the fact that most dog shows will have started off as a bit of fun, but it quite clearly got out of hand and distroyed more breeds than you can name, fox terriers, irish wolfhounds etc.............And is continuing to be detrimental to breeds, bedlingtons etc You only have to read a few posts to see this is true and if we're honest it could happen to the workers of today. I was reading the whippet yearbook and read an article (by Mike Brown, I think) about trying to acquire a working whippet, numerous knock backs off people who refus

I'm glad you all enjoyed reading it, Dave will be out of action for a while after a particularly hard dig, but when he gets back to work I'll think about writing another one................

Due to this being pre-ban I've removed names of people and dogs. For being relatively young and forward thinking in most of my views/opinions, I’m rather old fashioned when it comes to what I like in my dogs. With this current trend of heavy muscular bully greyhounds I found it hard to find the dog I was after. That was until my best friend rang me up and said he had been contacted by a close friend, who had a deerhound x greyhound available. Two year old and taking all British quarry. Likely story I thought! Who gets rid of a dog like that? The stories got even better. “Fifty f

I wrote this this some time ago and was reading it, thought some of you may appreciate it. Dave I acquired Dave off a very close friend. A two year old black fell terrier. One of the best looking dogs you’ll see, he has a thick head and neck, with a good athletic body, he stands about 13†at the shoulder and really does look ‘the part’ If I had a pound for every compliment that he had received I’d be rich man. Dave comes from very good breeding so I was told. Park’s blood lines. Gamekeeper bred by a man who had the father, grandfather and great grandfather. His forefathersâ€

Just got my camera working and figured out how to post photographs.................. My salukixwhippet 23"tts 13 month old, broke to ferrets and starting to mature nicely. The brindle is my greyhound deerhound x bull greyhound 3 year old and a very dependable dog, can be a bit aggresive towards other dogs but otherwise a steady easy going animal And for good measure my fell dog, three year old and really easy going..................well most of the time

This is my fell, he's a quiet dog, well most of the time...... Three year old from Brightmore and Parks lines.

My dad who has always had running dogs has recently thought about getting a new dog, however he's broke his back and leg and cant really walk too far without paying for it the next day. He no longer works and was thinking about getting two Italian Greyhound and maybe having a litter of pups off them. Does anyone know of any reputable breeders?

I've never really taken any sort of phoograph, (except holiday snaps on throw aways) ad was thinking of buying a camera. Does anyone have any information on what camera would be best for taking wildlife photographs, or just any helpful hints and tips would be appreciated.

Is that 14 month old bullx still around, if so where is it at in the country. Have you got a number for me to ring you on.

Folks, Think this is one that we should all be careful of. It would be nice to shout and wear and wind them up, however it would do no good. These people really are narrow minded and mis informed, althought they are clearly be dedicted to their cause. I'd join the site myself and try and change their views, but think (me and anyone else who tries) would be wasting there time. If you think about it this way, if one of their members joined the hunting life and tried to 'educate' us would we be converted - definately not. Unfortunatly it is these people who appear to carry power with
