  1. Thanks for that, as I have a prime spot at the top of the house that is somewhere near the kiddies bedroom, silence is golden wherever possible. (Should have gone for .22LR? quite possibly...) Out of interest at what point of flight does a round make the crack, ie distance/time from the point of explosion? cheers
  2. Anyone have any views on these? http://www.thewholeshootingmatch.co.uk/products.html I bought one when I collected my CZ HMR, seems fab to me but I've nothing to compare it to as it's my first rifle.
  3. 5x the price of others? Wondered what peoples thoughts were. Albeit a bit late as I went out on a whim and bought one, amongst other things! like a CZ American to go with it.
  4. Thanks again, I visited my local gunshop today and was indeed advised again to go for .22 to begin with. Noise being the determining factor. So, in terms of hardware he had a S/H CZ made in Yugoslavia, so 10 years old or so? Woodwork seemed to have a nicer finish than the new one he showed me, but it was more expensive. (£400 inc a decent mod and 3-9x50 simmons scope) Anyone know much about these Yugo ones? He rated it highly, just not sure whether to go new or S/H. Might go and get it tomorrow. Ta
  5. OOpps OK sorry, shoot the idiot. On second thoughts... MY FAC includes a Moderator, but perhaps I've spent mucking about with cars and made assumptions. Cheers
  6. righty oh, now where do I get me one of these modded .22's? And does there need to be an amendment to my FAC? Cheers!
  7. Yes thanks all. I think I need to experience some noise levels for .22 and .17. By the way how do you determine a 'modded' .22? Thanks again, sorry for all the questions.
  8. Many thanks for all useful info. I may have over-egged the distances, although not by a great deal. Anyway, as mentioned if something's out of range I could always get off my arse and move closer to it... I should have mentioned wind is often a factor here, straight of the Marlborough Downs, so perhaps that coupled with my wish for 'quiet' may well make .22 the right choice. So, could you experts offer some further advice on the .22 WMR as an alternative, and why or why not this could be an option?? Thanks again!
  9. Hello Chaps, new here and seem to have the same reuirements as the OP, so I hope you don't mind me adding to the post. I have been shooting shotgun for years but have just had a FAC through. I will be shooting rabbits mainly again, but I'm really trying to guage whether or not I'd be better off with 1.7hmr or .22, specifically in terms of distances. I will shoot from an elevated positon (4th storey, a convenient tower at the top of the house) and have about 12 acres, around me. I'd estimate a max range of about 200 yards. My other consideration is noise, as we have horses stabled. I u
