  1. I had this problem and one of my dogs died of lepto as a result, another got very sick and just about pulled through with a lot of care. My dogs are vaccinated and I was bleaching the yard every day but it wasn't enough. It was this time of year that that happened, whether that's relevant I don't know. I put poison down, using heavy slabs on bricks as a "bait box" and also cut a little rat door into a locked shed and put a lot in there..it worked, and the few rats that wandered into the yard the dogs killed but didn't eat. To the guy who said "shoot them with night vision", I shot do
  2. And some collie, hence the blue eyes? Nice dog by the way, my own "Whippets" (Lurchers) have a drop of collie blood.
  3. I believe that bringing them into heat massively increases the risk of pyometra.
  4. **sorry for the double post** I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.) Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think? She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

  7. ? Yeah, I get it, my dad tried to get me more involved with our working dogs as a kid but like you I got bored fast. You made me laugh with that bit about the rain because last night we had one of the loudest storms with some of the most torrential rain I've seen in years, and I was out in it with the Saluki pup, I want her to be ok with rain and unphased by thunder, and she did brilliantly
  8. This was my first lurcher that was all mine, I had just left the Army, I was homeless and considering suicide due to PTSD. I came to hear about this lurcher pup that was being given away as her owners couldn't manage her. I grew up with working Lurchers and was the perfect owner for her. Me and her camped and hunted together, till a mate moved us in with him, then I started my nurse training but we still went out mooching every day and she was my heart and soul dog. I had her until she ran hard into a fence post at 9 years old and I had to PTS. That was 11 years ago and i still mis
  9. Yep. Although Salukis are my heart hound, my Collie whippet Grey's are the best daytime dogs I've ever had. I don't do lamping (have but don't at present but I bet they would take to that too.
  10. The name says it all really, and although I specified Saluki I also own 3 working Lurchers, all light in pigment. I know that their is a fair bit of negativity about white working dogs so I thought I'd come and advocate for my pale minions
