  2. I have to agree on most of the replies. most of the choc labs (at least in Holland) are bred as pets/showdogs and do not work very well. A lot of them are even too dumb to train properly. There are some rough diamonds to be found however; In the dog school I am currently training a choc lab that was originally bought as a pet but turned out te be smart and a very enthousiastic worker with stamina. it came to my dog school because it was said to be a "prolem dog" but it just had an attitude and a lot of passion so it requires a bit tougher training than usual.   3. Hi Hob, What kind of pointer-breed is it? plain English pointer or german pointer or any other kind? Basically, as already mentioned above, if your dog points and holds until the gun is close enough for a clear shot then you can never make a fool out of yourself or your dog. most commands for pointing dogs apply to searching the field and the commands you use are depending on the kind of hunt and the type of field. german pointers tend to search very wide, but more often than not the hunters want a dog to browse right under the gun. it takes quite some commanding to keep your dog in
  4. Thanks for the welcome. So geoff did you visit Holland for hunting purposes already? The Voorburg area is not very good huting, much too crowded. I used to live only some 20 KM from there but moved to the more rural part of Holland for obvious reasons. And I couldn't agree more, I think there's a lot of decent people here on the forum and a lot of interesting topics, I have not even finished reading half of it yet!
