  1. your dead right about rabbits lean grazing does make a difference in size as they are limited to how far they can travel ive seen some humongus hares to i live near an experimental farm where they grow different types of crops one hare was taken their by a bunch of kids was a monster but they didnt get to keep it as word got out and the ministry men came and took it i know all the hares round their are a couple of pound heavier than normal but this one was unreal
  2. i Agree with taking em off but wonder if they do help dogs turn especially on fast grass on rabbits i must have run upwards of forty dogs over the years and never had a dew claw nocked up but have had mates that have suffered with their dogs dews better to take em off than get a lay up. but when running on the hills in derbyshire ive noticed a few times that my dogs always sempt to turn better than my mates who had theres removed and have often spoken about this theres no doubt they use em just look at the marks the dog leaves when run on short grass id be interested to hear what you lads thin
  3. If you know the parents no problem i would be wary of buying if i knew nothing of the parents although i reckon i would take a gamble if the pups looked like theyd got that something special about em all the best dogs i have ever seen out have been bitsas
  4. The run up to christmas usually leads to a lot more folks on the land keepers looking after their biggest shoots of the year and as MR darcy says a lot more idiots nicking stuff as long as theres no physical harm a good runner can be a right laugh shooting in the air and that is par for the course its when the dog drops dead at the side of you shot or your head connects with a pickaxe handle some big mothers holding that its time to do something
  5. Bucket of water everytime for me they soon get fed up with getting soaked works 8x out of ten and cheap as well but as DS says stick with it

A good friend of mine phoned me last night to let me know his old bitch had died she was 21 years old i bred her and was the last of a strain of black and tan lurchers bred during the eighties so much for travellers all being bad with dogs she spent her entire life under a vardo in lincolnshire ive only seen one other running dog that made that age and that was a non ped whippet he died at twenty if its seven years to our one then thats some grand old age anyway R.i.p Bonnie
  8. been out with a few not all are thick seen em doing all the jobs a lurcher can do they do lack a lot in stamina coursing grews seem to have a bit more than racers the one thing they dont lack is determination in the right hands a purebred will put a dinner on the table everytime before the saluki blood entered the coursing scene a lot of lads round my way used thoroughbreds for coursing with good results agreed they might fade after a few runs but if your not after numbers who cares seen a lot smashed up but theese were dogs that werent learnt from pups just grown dogs that hadnt been on the l

  11. I put the back and legs in salt water for a night then drain and put in a roasting dish with a couple of small whole onions and a few whole carrots a good nog of butter season well and slow roast on a low heat for about four hours or until well done
  12. bred down grews are the kawasaki of the lurcher world top acceleration the ones ive owned were excellent lamp dogs but only lasted a couple of seasons dancing in the dark at speed inevitably led to early retirement one killed himself hitting a stone wall but for sheer determination they took some beating never had any foot trouble but they all suffered round the stoppers and below the back hocks as they had little fur for protection cheers juckler

  16. Smart pup Frank bang on for the bunnys she looks in great nick are you taking bets on what colour she will turn out? once had a saluki strain that used to throw blue pups like her they all ended up dark red fawn all the best with her mate Juckler
  17. Equavite is what your looking for its made mainly out of sugar beet derivatives only use it if the dogs working hard definitely makes a difference especially in the stamina and recovery rate
  18. Had tyres done many times windows done twice and car burnt out once always park the car near houses or well hidden off the beaten track be carefull getting your own back hit em in the pocket its easier than fronting them cos they will be expecting a come uppance and probably know you anyway had wars with keepers a few times my mate ended up in intensive care they dropped charges as he was that bad and with the cops on their side you dont have much chance when it comes to confrontation
  19. Like paid says if the dog thinks your gonna get the sitter first its more likely of trying if you can go the other side of bunny so that your directly opposite then go in to pick it up encouraging the dog as you do ive had quiet a few collie bred dogs that went through this stage and they all ended up striking sitters at distance all the best Juckler
