  1. There used to be loads of threequater greyhound deerhounds about 20 yrs ago but to be honest what ive seen a good small first cross will always have that bit extra to offer than a 3/4 bred a lot of the threequaterbreds dont have the feet ,coat and wind of the first cross never the less they will make big fast dogs well capable on all quarry
  2. Lawn ferreting it dont get better than that love the kelpie cross looks a rabbiter for sure
  3. Are you sure it wasnt a great daneX no seriously i live on the edge of derbyshire and theres cows everywhere but i cant think ive ever clapped eyes on a brindle ive seen one or two blue roans they look like merles saw a really light coloured snipe yesterday morning while i was mooching with the pup it wasnt an albino but not far off saw a white fallow too always left them alone before the ban as its easy to notice they are missing
  4. What do you reckon this is? http://www.englishrussia.com/?p=251
  5. Anyone see the documentary on global dimming last night i think that was spot on as to what we are in for studied this over 20 yrs ago only good thing to come from it will be an explosion of rabbits and rats should be plenty to go at but breeding all year round will be a problem this season looks like its almost over ive had a few does in kit
  6. Love borzois would love to see one coursing there was a bloke in notts had a pair that were supposed to be the buisness on fox i also saw in uk classified some time ago a litter of colliexborzoi repeat mating i dont think they were hunting with them but the offspring looked well http://www.ukclassifieds.co.uk/stunning_bo...es-o150817.html
  7. Ive owned and seen some incredible working salukis brought up to hunt dogs that could work with their nose and good at it for toughness they are unbeatable running over anything without damaging feet etc they excell at larger game to i had two threequater saluki quater grews that were well biddable admitedly ive seen a lot that have been a bit slow with commands but imho i dont think the owners had put much training in if i was running the big land i wouldnt want anything else
  8. Yeah JD so they are laying up places then im surrounded by conifer plantations and in areas that the deer dont use a lot usually these are the signs i usually see first and can more or less guarantee there will be the odd one about ive just spent the last month going round all the woods near me and the fallow population is out of control i dont think anyones bothering them anymore what used to be runs are now motorways and the herd sizes have trebled in the last ten years they are expanding their territory like nobodys buisness theres a large gene pool around me as there was about fifteen
  9. Try a bit of vegetable oil in its food better still a tin of sardines or mackerel a couple of times a week
  10. I dont mind taking hares any way as long as the hares get used for food winds me up when they just get chucked in the hedgebottom or left in the field where they were taken they deserve better than that
  11. If he is holding his catch try walking away from him and as he is coming towards you squat down if at night switch the lamp off and call it in if he is killing and leaving em try and get him used to playing with a rabbit skin dummy be patient and never lose your temper and as terrier man says above all try and learn the dog on its own might take a bit of time to crack it but theres very few that cant be taught to retrieve i used to take dogs off the travellers round our way that wouldnt carry and managed to get most of em to carry back
  12. I always have my lurcher pups with me as much as poss and get the basics in from day one no need to overtrain em just being around you its supprising how much a dog can learn i talk to em as i would talk to a human the amount of words they pick up on never ceases to amaze me sit lie and stay walk at heel and retrieve till they are old enough to get on the land then ferreting then coursing then lamping by the time they are two year old theyve cracked the lot
  13. Nothing wrong with running the dogs without a lamp on a full moon and as your not lamping you can go on them bits what you would never get away with lamping anyway ive had double figures regularly on the estates where i live one old boy i know has worked his dogs at night for over thirty years as i know and wouldnt thank you to go with a lamp and he gets plenty. dogs can see well in the dark and with a good moon its just the same as being out at daybreak
  14. Have you learnt him to walk at heel and to stay both commands will stop the pup running on if so then just be firm he will click eventually
  15. cant fault you there moll sooner have hogs than slugs anyday
  16. A good friend of mine uses a length of washing line to train em recall when theres no other way a bit extreem [spelling]but works for him
  17. Tried most of the different strains and done some breeding too as long as the parents and grandparents are allrounders then thats all i need sooner have bitsas than first cross or threequaterbreds
  18. With the fencing buisness? congrats juckler, that's gotta be the longest passage i've ever seen without a full stop! Whats one of them
  19. Molly it was on central news last night about em having two litters last year and there being loads of little uns out looking for grub all the best to you for looking after it looks like youve got bert for a while i know folks who take animals in are doing it for good reasons but shouldnt nature take care of itself no offence meant
  20. Plenty of game where you are then TOMO done a bit out there a few years back round croxton and stamford warm as feck got caught by soldiers one night playing at being sas they said the estate was letting em train by catching the lampers cant fault you moving that way
  21. Rainworth mate i still dont live far away your first names not Mick is it?
  22. roadworks best for hardening the pads nothing to beat it if my dogs feet are sore from running on stoney ground i dip em in surgical spirit with a few pottasium permagnate crystals in it this helps em heal and harden quick but the dogs dont care for it much it makes their tail stand on end but it does the job
