  1. My thoughts are with his family R.I.P lamper gatherer
  2. Maty j theres a set of clippers available at most pet stores they are like a pair of scissors and they cut all round the nail evenly the guard stops you taking too much off as the guard stops em going to far up the nail
  3. Cheers DUCKWING there is definitely a size difference and the heads look different to ive had plenty of experience with fallow same as yourself i was taking em when i was still at school or that was where i was supposed to be . Ive seen fallow stags snap three strands of brand new barded wire on the run never seen a dog pull one of them singlehanded never mind a red seen plenty try and always another dog was slipped in to stop em. Whin wise words mate nothing worse than butchering in the field to much evidence and as for them big uns taking the dogs a fair old way in the daytime been there
  4. Thems the same strain we have in the midlands bigger than the scottish reds by a fair bit do you reckon they reach this size because of the climate and grazing.

  7. Or how hard the dog is working but your spot on mate feed poor quality food they have to eat more and will shit more nothing worse than loads of food going through a running dog

  12. Some hares love forestry and will lay up their all day only venturing out for a feed from dusk till dawn some dont even do that prefering to stay in the woods and feed on the rides. some of the wood hares near me make some huge size i would have bet dollars to diamonds thats where they have been during the wet.Hares are bucking now so they are on the move a lot more. and are easier to spot with the sun we have been getting they tend to sit up higher in their seats
  13. Them posts say it all great allrounders and make really good hare dogs sums em up perfectly
  14. Belting dog marco might be summat in what ditchy says. Only dog ive ever owned that picked another owner was a pure saluki took a shine to me old man even though he never took him running first chance he had he would high tail it to me dads house where he ended up staying in the end used to howl at the full moon too sat on top of the kitchen table not a normal howl either more like a low moan first time it did it i wondered what the hell it was
  15. There used to be plenty of working greyhounds a few years back before the saluki crosses came in for the coursing and some were fairly reasonable 2 out of 2 and the odd one that could do a bit more been out with a few that could lamp too the stamina aint the same as a lurcher and the feet seem to suffer if worked hard. but no worse than a lot of threequaterbred dogs ive seen. For a pot filler brought up from a pup they can do the job no probs and before the ban a greyhound that knew the game with hares was a pleasure to watch i wouldnt advise anyone getting an ex track or coursing dog unless y
  16. you wont get the best out of your dogs by feeding lean meat as they needs fats as thats where a dog derives its energy from unlike humans that get theirs from carbs ..... how does feeding big lumps of meat clean teeth and help with stomach acids ?????????????? So all the hare killing dogs and lamping dogs ive run over the years have had no energy theyve had enough to kill hares daily and lamp when ever ive wanted to take em out which might be seven nights in a row bones for teeth and big lumps of meat does help with the bile build up on days off
  17. Surely the people who sell comercial feeds would want their customers dogs to live as long as possible dead dogs dont make any money the longer they live the more profit they make obviously there will be some unscrupulus mothers out there that dont give a crap how long the dogs survive but some of the top companies do. Myself ive tried complete greyhound foods and apart from the most expensive i find they have to eat way to much to keep weight on when working hard ive tried an all meat diet when i worked at a knackers yard they kept weight on but their coats never looked quite right and their
  18. Are dogs true carnivores? been reading up a bit on the net about diet after following this thread and found this by a vet Dog are not true carnivores, because they can produce the essential amino acids and do not have to ingest them in their diet. Cats are true carnivores. Feeding all meat, or nearly all meat diets to dogs almost inevitably leads to feeding an improperly balanced diet, especially in the calcium and phosphorous ratios. There is no evidence that I know of that feeding more protein than is necessary for maintenance and repair of the enzymes, muscles, etc. in th
  19. Their was a purebred saluki black and tan called trevor that done 3 out of 3 regular around 78 it won the spewers two year on the trot wiped the floor with other dogs on the big land in lincs

  21. Dont believe in feeding a dog pork if its a running dog with other breeds its o.k . Ive always been led to believe it takes to long to digest same with bones minced or not if the dogs running i like em to be empty if there not running then fine
  22. TOMO its the irish hare they course at organised coursing meets different to the english which are driven the irish hares are caught up and released Macker mate i never said they run like rabbits they can twist and turn as good as a brown and to be honest a good little hare is a better challenge than a big one the difference is looks not ability as i said before theres always been a debate over which is the best to course as reguards to different styles of coursing dog some folks like the saluki blooded dogs that can kill 5 or 6 hares that have a different style of running wearing their hare
