  2. Where i was watching them the cuckoo was first up but there were reed and grasshopper warblers singing all night along with the tufftys and geese bet if it was away from water Ditch it would have been
  3. I would go for a little bitch in the litter for no other reason than it will more than likely be smaller if its the straight cross
  4. If its on a public footpath it could be for putting rat bait in if not for a trap. keep your eye on em it will be interesting to see just what they are for.
  5. Most pet shops usually stock it chainman
  6. Anyone got any info on salmon on the trent when they run and what would be the best bait theres been a few out last season and i shouldnt mind a crack at em any info greatly appreciated
  7. Well true but the Quater of the litter that throw to the whippet could be just that bit special ive seen it many times whippetxcollie and whippet x cur there will be one that throws to the whippet and they can take some beating seen some right little rabbit machines bred this way its what you do with the wastage i suppose
  8. Thats not strictly true like any first cross mating to a collie type its about being able to pick the pup thats thrown right if you can afford to run the pups on a bit till they are 12 wks or so it will make picking the right one easier
  9. Cheers for that stabs something to get me teeth into there mate Do you know if dogs have a similar conversion rate to humans or is there a lot of difference as vermin dropper said about dogs getting energy from fats and humans from carbs? Cheers Juckler
  10. Luke your not wrong with your breeding i like a bit of whippet in the mix as well as the saluki greyhound etc imo the whippet grew has done wonders and along with the saluki has made a big difference to the coursing lurcher in the last thirty years
  11. Surely its the man maketh the dog routine here a bit as well i had a great dog on hare in the early eighties he was at stud and had over two hundred offspring that were all just run of the mill nothing special with the odd one making good until i bred a litter and kept one and the rest went to a traveller who knew how to enter and condition a dog all that litter were spot on. Thinking back i would have said it was down to the owners not entering and looking after their whelps as much if not more than the actual breeding ive seen it many times with hare dogs its not just breeding its work that
  12. I reckon thats about spot on ive been accused a lot for the dogs being muscle bound although i like em heavy they can motor and have always done well with old long ears pre ban they also dont shed weight like they do on a poor quality meat diet so need less time off recovering i am still not convinced about the fats surely there will still be enough fat running through the meat when its trimmed up ive always fed lean and in over twenty years never had a lurcher that was short on energy could they be getting the fats they require from the couple of tins a fish they get a week and the odd bits
  13. fair comment eggy i probably could have found better links but the first link sums up perfectly what is going on and as i know from experience theres more dodgy dealings done in the meat trade. I used to take dead dogs and cats to be burnt and the ashes went to the garden centres as potash and the fats went to the renderers and eventually ended up as the meat content in the complete feeds. Like you i prefer raw and will take on board what you say about the links cheers Juckler
  14. Jellybean your not wrong mate its made from flowers of sulphur and it used to be used like that to cure mange many years ago although it does work there are better things to cure mange with. Its good in the water for cooling the dogs though
  15. Let me put it another way everyone talks protein now is a piece of steak higher in protein than a piece of belly and do you think the better quality the cut the better for the dog? does it make any difference in the overall performance? i know from experience good cuts of meat will increase a greyhounds times but is it really necessary for a lurcher for work
  16. Well lads do you think that the cut of meat you use makes a difference in performance?
  17. I dont know about anyone else but ive found most jukels wed to some game more than they do to another. hare dogs that stop running rabbits seen a few of them and rabbit dogs that not run hare. Dogs that would jack on anything if a fox pops up and then theres them that can wind scent that deer thats watching you lamp from just inside the wood some dogs just cant help themselves so it ends up down to us as owners to decide weather to let your jukel have his head or not At least with an oppertunist you will never go hungry
  18. Theres just been a problem with this type of feed in the USA with some of the biggest name companys involving suspect sources of ingredients and more than a few dead dogs. A lot of the science diets meat and fat content is from rendered animals the renderers were using dead dogs and cats rendering them even with their flea collars on but i wouldnt worry about it to much they use the better grade fat for biscuits the ones we eat. At the end of the day if youve a big company its gonna struggle to get meat for production and will get meat from any source it can and if it cant get meat it will
  19. --> QUOTE(Dawn B @ Apr 18 2007, 10:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pepper dust sometimes works, grease along the top of your fence helps, a hose pipe if you are there, a can of stones. This product about half way down too may help. http://www.gardensupplydirect.co.uk/?listP...dCategoryID=121 Cheers Dawn B like the look at the sonic cat scarer gonna check to see if they work in the dark cheers for the link
  20. Anyone got any tips for keeping cats off the garden at night something that dont involve killing or moving em as i get on really well with the neighbours. Them and the squirrels[now gone] are getting every nest any ideas would be greatly appreciated Cheers Jim
  21. A first for me this year is watching stormcocks nesting on the back yard never heard it before but when ever something comes near not only have they been mobbing but one of their alarm calls is like a ducks quack used as a warning defore they attack works a treat, the squirrels respect the thrushes now just with a few warning notes.
  22. No DS they laugh like a parrot i used to carpfish the lake and the cuckoos would be well vocal a proper laughing sound similar to a maggies chatter
  23. I am well happy speed stamina agility to spare and a good strike for a young un he is going to be a good allrounder a right character too
