  2. Its not really suprising its hard to get permission round us Lord B as its not too long ago that the area was hammered during the miners strike folks still remember the havoc we all caused out of necessity and the popularisation of the lurcher that came about at the same time. Hopefully in a year or ten permission might be easier to get as theres not many places that get bothered these days like they used to im too old to run now and getting caught the other day got me a fair old bit of land to run on as no one was keeping the numbers down. Surely an extra pair of eyes or two on the land at
  3. Pup had his first daytime bunny hunted up and caught not bad for a fist proper day out he had trouble with his growing so hes been kept up a lot looking right now so its time to start. Got my first bit of decent permission too after getting caught out in the middle of the land about 2000 acre of flat dyked land Not heaving with game but enough to keep my pair happy for a good while
  4. Onions now theres food for thought one of the best trainers in my area Joe Booth a man who had a derby winner or two swore by a tiny bit of spanish onion in their food a couple of times or more a week he said it helped the track dogs and said fed properly it had benefits to the blood its right it causes anemia if fed a lot but a little thinner blood would flow quicker maybe theres something in that. Garlic is well good for dogs keeps the worms and fleas away mine get a clove twice a week and capsules every other day. Ive tried carcass feeding lamb chests still borns etc as they were free o
  5. Put some rock sulphur in his water its used for cooling their blood but works nearly everytime for them that gets a taste for eating their own

  10. Try putting streaky bacon on the rabbit and open roast on a medium heat

  12. Cheers Lord B that will make a tasty change from pigeon pie
  13. If its in a frozen block cut it with a bow saw into smaller pieces i dont feed a lot of liver as it makes the dogs loose just a small piece in with their food hearts are fine.

  15. Seen a lot of tattys dumped like that round the farms round me down to the wet id have thought a lot had crops ruined. Potatoes are not the best of foods when there right i wouldnt eat any that are out of sorts them green coloured ones you get have traces of cyanide in them. 16. What ive found Molly sarcoptic makes em irritate more and it looks raw while deomedetic dont look as sore . I took in loads of dogs of the travellers sites with all sorts of creepy crawleys and never once had a lurcher with deomedetic untill i got into the apbts and had a few of them with it they were black coloured mainly that had it too i tried ivomec jabs and a deomedetic mange wash but found all it did was keep it as it was it didnt clear up properly till they were around two years of age then they sempt to get over it on their own ive seen that a few times in other peoples dogs too. L
  17. Cant beat a good stag turkey just cut em in half if there too big to go in the oven
  18. Transit 690 if its that bad mate get em to someone who knows the score or a vet you dont want to be treating the wrong thing. Qualada is very good at shifting mange and if you ask your chemist they should be able to get some for you if not anything that will kill scabies on humans will treat mange on dogs one thing to be sure of doing is only cover half the dog one day and the other half the next some of the treatments are a bit harsh to do all the dog in one go. Whatever you use wash off after three days then repeat three times burn all the old bedding and bleach the kennels out you have to
  19. How do you get them started teaching the send away or go back? I can get her looking for quarry or even a biscuit with a 'where is it', but never known how to send her out in a particular direction if she can't see or smell what she' s going out to (except with the lamp I suppose). Sending back is easiest just start walking on a couple of feet from a dropped rabbit or dummy then just build the distance in a day or two you can get em to go back a good way i also lob whatever there to retrieve in thick cover to get em into cover at a young age. Sending them on is not as easy some collie
  20. I find the send back command helps loads with poor retrievers if they have to go away from you and retrace their steps to get a dropped rabbit or dummy. And they seem to enjoy it more than throwing an object for them plus your learning em to leave on command when you first drop the rabbit/dummy and then the heel while there waiting to be sent and lastly the go command a simple little routine thats enjoyable for dog and owner
  21. another good read cheers meerihunter. Be interesting to see a saluki x afghan ive seen two saluki x borzois they looked the part but the afghan x would be a better option and your so right about the owners not needing to be into hunting an old friend had an afghan and it was a beast, it wanted to kill everything so much so he had to walk it on a washing line, otherwise nothing was safe dogs cats whatever a proper fiery sort
  22. Sit lie stay find go back fetch stand wait get on where is it over and under give paws beg say yes please got one that tries to say hello [well thats what it sounds like] and when in the motor get your heads down theyve all known them commands. Then with hand signals sit with a point of the finger lay down gesture with same finger. Come here either open and close my hand or put both hands together. Stay show them the flat of my hand. Mine are with me 24/7 so they soon get the hang of all them then theres words they recognise like walk dinner biscuit other dogs and peoples names
  23. Better a good home over cash any day And giving them to lads that will bring the best out of em cant fault you mate Some tidy brindles look good solid pups well bred and well cared for.
