Top read lads

Think thats the trick bring em up hares as soon as they are mature enough i started mine from Anne and at thirteen mths he would put a couple of turns in and come back tail wagging kept free running him daily and lamping him and at eighteen mths he was hardly missing he learnt quickly to go up steady and run at only the speed needed but i think most dogs given there head will do the same one thing with lurche to lurcher matings mouth generally throws through and that can be everything. Show winner lol.

Cheers Bosun i havent seen any threequater greyhound breed that id want to own either mate summat to think about Woz. Yes she was litter sister to chuckles darbo here she is the merle.

Chances are unless you know of rabbiting border collies and quality greyhounds most litters of f1s will be out of no working parents. I didn't like hancocks set up either but bought a pup from chuck arrowsmiths rabbiting collie and a linden eland bred coursing greyhound she ran her heart out for five seasons never stalked at night and caught more out the beam than any other I've owned she'd pile through hedges in the dark seen a few first crosses from there some were real good rabbiters but some of the threequater breds were useless I'm sure I read he breeds them a different way now if I was

Coursing Under Rules Pre Ban Good For The Breed Or Not?
juckler123 replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good post Ali thats what im after mate Dont think doubled up running is any good for a breed myself either the old dog of mine would growl other dogs off when running doubled up which a lot of the lads did back in the day no one knew but me and my mate Plus they learn to anticipate the turn the other dog puts in and make easy kills no good in under rules coursing.. Single handed all the way to produce a better animal imho wish the coursing lot had that view atb.. -
Ayup Andy happy new year to you and yours mate great piccies them pups look well bud youve been round the dogs a long time be interesting to hear if you see anything different with the coursing types bud atvb....

Titans post got me thinking it was quiet easy back in the day to get hold of greyhounds with good mouth as they would earn little points coursing under rules so good mouth wasnt wanted. Iim not sure about salukis but would have thought the same to me thats detrimental to the breed whats your views on this id be interested to hear lads n lasses atb.

Spot on PP hes a grand looking pup

Still think the right deerhound blood has a lot to offer very good at windscenting brill feet good skin and coat and a good brain for a purebred be great to see the lads thats running them keep on doing so and keep a good working strain going. Ran a few f1s and a couple of deerhound collie hybrids rated them all for catching local always fancied an f1 to a pure saluki for running big land with maybe one day.

Interesting post Bird I think them large ones are the anatolian kangals saw my first uk kangal two days ago so they are here it was a dog pup at six mths of age and going to be nowhere near the height of them in the pics i commented on the fact that i had seen larger specimins and the gal that owned him reckoned he was a turkish kangal so not as huge. I kept mastiff xs and neos for a while as guards and he was no bigger than a neo pup of the same age he was certainly switched on aggresion wise though as he came to inspect my runners he got snapped at and was instantly going to have a go eve

Only known one lab cross he was 3/4 greyhound a big strong dog a mate owned him saw him run for four seasons daytime and the lamp brilliant hare dog for where we were and he slaughtered foxes. Often fancied one myself reckon they would be everything you would want in a lurcher the lab would make them really easy to get on with.

Can remember as a kid getting truffles out of leaf matter under beach trees not very big about the size of a walnut at biggest. Im right into shrooms and honestly didnt think there was any truffles worth eating in the uk. Till i saw on a progame last year a guy picking them above ground he had filled a basket in half an hour reckoned it was between 1500 and 2000 quids worth but they were in the south of the country didnt think think there was any edible sorts anywhere else. Be interesting to hear whos found what

Cheers that something i never got to find out cant judge an animal on a couple of runs them reds and fallow stags are certainly deceptive
-
Amen to that
-
Fallow and red both jump well for definite but them roe i ran jumped like springbocks in the open fields when there was no need to jump they were miles from cover not seen fallow or reds do that unless really pressed.
-
What i noticed about the few roe i ran was how they jumped in the open and their turning abillity fallow can go and reds but the them roe had me thinking they would be brilliant sport atb.
-
Seen it many times the owner can be everything
-
Like TOMO says if its your first go for a good mixture of both but be carefull what you pick if your after bigger quarry might be better with a dog and if your after smaller stuff a bitch can never understand why theres not more sal/greyxcollie/grey stuff line bred after the first couple of matings they throw very even like peas in a pod seen a few class animals bred this way sadly the lads that had them gave up with the game and their breed has gone. Failing that a coursing bred dog to a 3/4 greyhound collie would be spot on you get best of both worlds easy to get on with and pacy enough wi

Seen a few that were supposed to be top drawer all ive got to say is one mans good dog is another mans pot licker depends on what they are being judged on more than anything i would have thought. Seen a few good day dogs jib at hedges when theyve been run on the fen only same as lamp only dogs think it was easier to see legends when we needed the dogs to put food on the table and coin in the pocket if it could feed the village and more than a few did it was a legend as much as the specialist running in their circles and doing what they were bred to do.
-
This could be a good topic ive only run a handfull of roe pre ban but from what i saw they sempt pretty fast and agile in the open far quicker than the larger species we were running and the muntys didnt seem fast at all never ran one of them chinese water deer either can they run or not.
-
Interesting post Si and i agree totally we always did everything with the running dogs ferreting as pups then lamping and coursing when the corn was cut or it was too frozen to be out at night we classed a good dog as one that could kill a hare well in the day but also fulfill the other roles of all round provider.
