  1. I can't fault that thought Shadow I ran with those crosses for four decades if it's not broke don't fix it biggest respect to you and I hope you never lose what you have ???
  2. I've seen more slow clever dogs win coursing comps on points pal I mean no disrespect but cmon lad FFS ? Doubled up is not the way ever ?
  3. Glad you mentioned the sloughis bud All generic drop eared sighthounds are just lurchers to me to be fair whether tazi taigan sloughi Saluki Afghan etc just lurchers from the east. The crusaders brought them back here a thousand years ago to prove they'd been on crusades ? The thing they all miss all except the lads that hunt for food is what they really bring to the table their stamina everyone gets that but their ability to herd just like a collie dog and their intelligence to read the land and catch what they are slipped on If you are in the UK perhaps we could meet u
  4. I thought like that bud I was surprised to find out I was totally wrong ?
  5. Best answer pal I have had this argument for years I have mates in Nevada that run single handed and will hopefully go and see but they are living on grass and sage I reckon our English browns that's on broccoli carrots etc would outdo them stamina wise like you say only way to know us go and do it thank you loads ?
  6. One million percent yes Shadow ? They have to run in slop here no firm ground in winter the best in the states are tepe gwara bred same as our pures I know I have best mates that win mixed comps there but ours are bred to do the job here forty plus years of doing just that makes a big difference I have had middle eastern bred types that were biddable but lacked a gear on clay land and I've never yet seen an import do what a home bred line can. I also agree why reinvent the wheel but imho the Saluki lurchers are just becoming British salukis in reality give one a go pal you won't look
  7. Spot on max just like us and the hounds genetic memory is a great factor lots of hares now know how to suff in drains and holes ? I never believed such things till my old strain of lurcher if they had a bunny in bramble they'd use their feet to get em to bolt I saw that pass down three generations you can't teach a dog to do that learnt me a lot at the time pal I can tell you ?
  8. That's a mint pic bud and im with you one million percent on size thanks for sharing ??? Love the stamp of them ?
  9. Interesting video Sandymere the rough ones look like beddy X's ? I am going to stick my neck out here bless you ? No hound should ever run doubled or tripled up they can't control the hare who will only run as fast as the hound chasing it ? The Saluki lot and the galgo lot don't understand coursing same as many other countries as the English lads do Those hounds were bred to herd back to their owners all forms of coursing with more than one hound is just racing as two dogs cannot control their prey each will keep turning it but not herding it a proper single handed hound w
  10. Depends on what their eating ? I would say from what I've seen I've heard lots of times arguments on which are the fastest hares especially with my American mates ? I know from my experience the best are usually near good food crops there are hares and hares in the UK I honestly believe some maybe a sub species but that's just my thoughts it's probably genetics which I wouldn't know about. But I've seen big ginger ones that take no catching and smaller darker types that lift and take the dog on a tour back in the day many times. Like a good few of my mates it wasn't the numbers
  11. I got to agree pal there is a reason we cross but have you ran a well bred pure to know for sure I was like you and to be fair the line I keep isn't as strong as what's coming out today I been around strong dogs all my life I think the Nero bred hounds are as strong as any lurchers I've come across ATB
  12. Got to agree with you Mc was brought up with whippets and they couldn't handle big land nor real hares in.the dead of winter great pot fillers local but land and time of year made a big difference on their performance ?
  13. I bet we aren't far from each other bud I like the small types loads they have more to offer sport wise even on bigger things I always said I'd retire with a terrier and a whippet when I can't walk the distance ? Now I'm leaning more to Saluki whippet back to Saluki to get the size right down just for legal game and with a terrier still of course ? I like them pocket rockets on hedgey land my pure bitch was 23 and a half I couldn't replicate her sadly the bitch pup made 25 the dogs 26 Its just my opinion and everyone has them I know but a good little one has always been more en
  14. Internet dogs are a penny a pound I agree totally bud ??? It's easy to make a hound look good ferret fifty rabbits stick the mutt at the side of them Take pics of two hares that were tripled up on ? Only way to buy is from folk you know and dogs you've seen run but once you buy stick with them and try your hardest to reproduce what you have we are all carrying a batton in a relay race in truth and it's as simple as that biggest respect to what has gone before. us just like hounds have been here a few thousand years at the least atvb
  15. Lard over beef dripping every time ? And chip pan rabbits over stewed too if it's jacket comes off easy into the chip fryer they go ? Ace pics two crows ?????
  16. Suits me Max I lost an old lurcher strain and was struggling to find anything with same preydrive and stamina had a pure back in the eighties that was a fair tool so went with the English working strain pures after talking with lads that used to be on here that saw their family run and ran with them themselves I had given up on the idea till I came online a decade or more ago and saw there was working types not just show types. Mines double bred khan but I ran his parents seven years before I bred him his sire was very fast his dam just fast enough but very aggressive not like the sire w
  17. They do me ok bud that missing a gear is true in a lot of lines but not working bred a cruise line bred just may shock you speed wise they did me to be fair but how fast do you need a hound too fast and we get the speed and stamina issue ? I hear they are thick too thats another folktale when it comes to UK working type I couldn't keep a hound if it wasn't a hundred percent obedient bless ya Floyd good question pal. I'm just out for a walk nowadays an interesting one of course ?
  18. Not daytime hares only ? I mean for filling a bag consistently feeding the family and finding and catching on everything from mice upwards to the big things in life ? And no before anyone says it i don't eat mice nor never will ? Back in the day I kept bulls and mastiffs to guard the yard and they could work too but wouldn't have kept me fed with more than rabbits . I have had greyhounds too good killers but they broke easily ? have been out with pure deerhounds not my cup of tea to be honest although good finders of game especially large game but lack on smaller game
  19. No matter what floats ya boat seriously how many can kill like the crossbreeds only one I can think of atb
  20. Let's see em lads ?
  21. That's some haul bud and that much quality speaks for itself hope you get more like her in the future Daniel ???
