  1. I've got one, I use it with the rifle though, beam way too tight for dogwork I reckon. I keep saying I'll try it with the dogs but keep picking up the clulite instead!
  2. Hi Ace, Not managed to get hold of Lil'gun, I do plan on using it with some berger 30's that I've got. They need a lot of powder to stabilise properly, and I'm starting to get pressure signs with the 110. The 110 does do the business with the 40s, doesn't seem to like the lighter ones so much. Hopefully getting some Lil'gun over the weekend so will report back! James
  3. If the imbra and juby are still on the STAO, then presumably a direct copy would be legal? Are both jaws hinged? Google images don't show it very clearly.
  4. "The importance of gloves. When setting your traps, there are a number of reasons why the use of gloves is essential. Find out how to AVOID making these mistakes... Arrows Preparing the ground BEFORE you set your traps. Here's what you absolutely MUST do, 24 - 48 hours before you set your traps. If you don't, then you'll have a high failure rate..." Hmmmm..... :hmm: James
  5. 2. A person shall not be guilty of an offence under this Act by reason of- (a) the attempted killing of any such wild mammal as an act of mercy if he shows that the mammal had been so seriously disabled otherwise than by his unlawful act that there was no reasonable chance of its recovering; (b)the killing in a reasonably swift and humane manner of any such wild mammal if he shows that the wild mammal had been injured or taken in the course of either lawful shooting, hunting, coursing or pest control activity; © doing anything which is authorised by or under any enactment; (d)
  6. Not a problem mate! Good choice of calibre, they can be a bit ammo fussy but the performance is worth it. I had another fox with mine on saturday night, 145 yards off the bonnet, dead as you like! And all for the same cost as HMR ammo! If I can help any more, just get in touch. James
  7. Aye but you can use the cases several times, especially if you use mildish loads and neck size only. So, cases £30/hundred = 30p each, 5 reloads which is conservative but makes the maths easy! = 6p per load Nosler BT's - £20/Hundred = 20p per load Primer - £3/100 = 3p per load Powder - H110, £36/lb,700 loads = 5p Total - 34p a bang, or £34/100 I get more like 6-8 reloads per case, and Noslers are expensive bullets too - I load berger 30grainers for bunnies, they bring the cost down to more like £26-£30 per hundred. Bear in mind as well that most factory horne
  8. The HMR has to be the most overhyped cartridge around. For a 150 yard, still air bunny gun when you don't want to homeload fair enough, but no more than that. Ammo cost versus performance is ridiculous, terminal ballistics very variable, ammo QC seems iffy, and they DO richochet. Not a calibre I'll ever have room for in my cabinet - .22lr and .22 hornet plus reloading gear makes so much more sense. James
  9. Mid -90's I think - called the Nikko MRE - Multi-reticle-something or other. They did the 3-9x40 and a 1.5-5x20 IIRC - I saw one of the 1.5's on a .308win, it was used for driven boar. A mate's got one on one of his rimmies too - quite nice, but the crosshair seemed a wee bit thick for my liking. James
  10. Job to be done chap, if there are that many it's only a matter of time 'til myxy rears it's ugly head. Distasteful it may seem at the moment, but the rabbit pop. as a whole will be healthier (if smaller!) for it. James
  11. Ultra here, I love it's so short for shooting out of the truck, very accurate too. Comes with a moddy as standard, but it's not brilliant to be honest. That's the only fault I can find tbh, shot count is lowish at 30 or so but who shoots more than 30 bunnies with an airgun? Easy to charge up from a pump too. James
  12. You'll be wanting 6's then. Make sure you buy good quality ones, some of the cheap copies are at best illegal, at worst inhumane. Fenn, Springer, and Solway are three of the specifically approved ones. There may well be others. It's pretty simple to do, harder to do well. Im out with the Fenns on Sunday, I'll try to get some decent piccies and do a walk-through. If you get down here at all, I could take you out for a demo. James
  13. As said, what size you after and what you trapping? I've just gone over to magnums for rats last winter and found them fantastic, hoping to try them on bunnies this week. James
  14. It's the usual thing mate, a few bad apples spoiling it for everyone. I can think of 3 keepers who keep lurchers (myself included), but against that, every keeper I know has had problems with lurchermen poaching, and when it's your livelihood at risk, it's easier and safer to say no. Might be worth trying to get to know the keeper through a bit of beating etc first, so he knows he can trust you. James
  15. Thankyou for the apology. Fully appreciate the point about being responsible for ensuring that the ground is 'passed' if you don't have an open ticket. The point I was trying to make though was that the land is never licenced, the person is. Therefore I (because I have an open certificate - which I only got because of my business) could shoot on the land in question with my .243 if I so chose, assuming I had permission of course. Certainly sounds like he was in breach of his certificate conditions. Keeper does sound like a bit of a nob! Regards, James
  16. You're quite wrong. FAC's (or more specifically the conditions for the individual rifles on them), come in three 'types' if you will - 'Closed', where the rifle can only be used on named land specified on the certificate or on ranges - 'Semi-open', where the rifle can be used on any land where the holder has permission to shoot AND which is passed for that calibre. - 'Open', where the rifle can be used on any land where the holder has permission to shoot. Therefore, the holder of that type of cetificate can use any of their rifles on any land they judge to be safe. All of my rifles have an o
  17. By what law is it legally forbidden? Please do tell I dunno about being unemployed, but it's a nice change from doing the paperwork for my pest control business and pheasant shoot to listen to silly men on the internet talking nonsense about firearms law.
  18. I'm not defending him, I'm criticising you. Bloody hope nobody who works in Curry's upsets you, presumably you'd go in and smash all the tellies. What licence for the land are you talking about? Land doesn't get licenced, people do.
  19. How do you know he hasn't got an open ticket? You decided to wipe out someone's livelihood because he spoilt your leisure shooting? Well done. And folk wonder why they struggle to get permission.
  20. Legally you're fine, practically maybe less so. .22lr is a bouncy little bugger so ricochets can be an issue, even on soft ground if the angle is shallow. CB longs can be ok but won't cycle a semi auto and they bounce too, though they have much less energy to begin with (30ftlb rather than 90 or so) .22 Shotshells in a rifled barrel are pretty poo - effective range not much more than about 6ft due to the blown pattern from the rifling. Airguns are just about perfect for rat work - why would it have to be a HW100? A cheapie springer or c02 gun will be more than adequate - or ev
  21. I hope that's approved Logun...... :tongue2:
  22. Thanks for all the comments chaps! Hunter - yeah a meet up one day would be good. The ironic thing is I've got loads of contracts but not much 'permission' as such. There is the gameshoot but I tend to keep that for the beaters. Quite fancy having a bash at that HFT layout, maybe meet up there one Sunday? Had a bit more sport today, took the .243 for a morning out and managed a muntjac and a roe doe! Roll on the carp and bunnies tomorrow! James
  23. Neither mate, magnum traps! Not quite as much fun as the .410 (or the garden gun!) but bloody efficient! Terrier got a bit of action but the rats were under the buildings so not ideal for him. Plenty of farms left for you mate, you can have all the ones that are too tight to pay me! James
  24. Pianoman - you're spot on there mate, I just never get the chance to use air power any more, it's all .22 and centrefire stuff! Got a HW80 as well but it's a bit weighty for carrying about whilst checking traps! Ste - Not a rat to be seen, I've hammered them with the Magnums over the winter. Never even got round to having a go at em with the airgun. Client's well happy though, there's always next winter! James
  25. Had to go and service one of my rat contracts today, a farm over near Gloucester. There have been a few feral pigeons about so I decided I'd stick an airgun in the truck. The Ultra is scopeless at the moment (cos I had to pinch the scope to put on the new .22) so I decided I'd give the old BSF 55 an airing - fixed 6x42 scope, number 4 reticle, no fancy bits at all. Checked my traps and settled into position overlooking the bird's favourite rooftop: I missed the first couple of birds, I'd forgotten how hard a .22 springer can be to shoot accurately - especially when you're only af
