Lets See Them Whippets, Coarsing, Racing, Working

I don’t keep either but if I had to choose I’d rather have a ped whippet over a pure saluki without a doubt -
Lets See Them Whippets, Coarsing, Racing, Working

Saw plenty coursing breds get left like that from a good hare as well so the whippets not alone -
No different buying a pup off a stranger on here, than getting one off pets 4 homes, just because it’s called the hunting life doesn’t really mean anything

Think Dave Sleight has always got a dog at stud of some kind but don’t think he’s ever done much working of dogs, got to be better options out there surely
-
Do many people work non peds these days? Would probably be better to use a working one over one that had just been raced
-
Saw a bitch out of a non ped whippet & a pure saluki, she’d have put up a good show on any land big or small. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to be fair I’ve seen some full whippets and whippet crosses you could have a lot of fun with, on more than what you’d think as well
-
Totally different thing taking pictures of a protected species & posting it on Facebook, as opposed to someone taking pictures of legal quarry animals that could’ve well been shot, and keeping it to themselves to look back on
-
I’ve always taken pictures of catches & it’s never caused me any trouble at all, as long as you’re sensible about it and stay on the right side of the law they shouldn’t do really. Im glad I did as well because it’s nice to look back on them. I know a few genuine people that get a bit done and don’t take any pictures but I’ve not met many that fall in to that category, most I’ve known that say “I don’t take pictures” are the ones that aren’t catching anything to photograph in the first place
-
Couple of mates had phones taken full of still pictures & nothing came of it. Only time police use them as evidence is when people are stupid enough to have their faces in the pictures holding the dog and dead animal, without a face it could be a random picture you’ve saved off the internet there’s no way of proving who it is
-
Pictures are hard to use as evidence especially if there’s nobodies face in them and the animals visibly dead. Got no time for these clowns that take videos with a hare or deer still alive & screaming while the dogs got hold of it though, they deserve all they get at court and you’re right it’s just to show off on Facebook or WhatsApp groups

Cracking stamp that red dog at the back, how’s he bred?
-
To be honest the best dogs I’ve seen on fallow bucks & reds have all been 26tts or below. The great big 28/29tts things never seem to have the same style or technique
-
Don’t hear much about stud dogs nowadays, moneys out of it I think
-
Shouldn’t be bred from those nervous things that won’t come back but I bet there’s loads that have been
-
100% I agree quality over quantity. Was just trying to gauge whether you had done a lot of deer with him or just a few because it would be interesting to hear how a GSD cross fared if it was getting ran on deer regularly compared to some of the more popular crosses
-
Always been interested in this cross, not a fox man myself but when you say about fallow was yours a good dog for bigger and smaller species of deer? How many did he have over his career?
-
I’d just wait until it dries up naturally, there’s no way of doing it without dehydrating the bitch which is no good for her

Bull grey x saluki bull grey opinions?
Deerhunter1 replied to JkLane97's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I wouldn’t because I don’t think it would do my current dogs any favours, but I wouldn’t be going & using any of these big name stud dogs either that get ran once a fortnight if they’re lucky -

People always laugh when a greyhound or something similar is used over a bitch, but they’ll look at paying £500+ to use a stud dog that nobodies ever seen run as a safe bet, strange carry on. -

You’re wrong on both counts, I’ve seen plenty greyhounds & have walked many wet arable fields, even the famous black land of Cambridgeshire you boys love so much. It doesn’t change the fact a good greyhound will outpace any coursing bred dog in a straight line -

A good greyhound is faster than any coursing bred dog that’s ever lived, I agree they won’t catch decent hares but they’re more than capable of putting a bend in any hare -
Never made sense to me chasing numbers of anything, it’s all for bragging rights but it doesn’t show anything about how good a dog is, seen some poor dogs take good numbers when took to places that the quarry’s easy caught
-
If you looked after her & gave her a good life then you did her justice. Don’t listen to the story tellers and their tales of massive bags of quarry every outing. If you didn’t see it with your own eyes don’t believe a word, that’s the best advice you’ll get going forward because it’ll let you enjoy your next dog even more.

Definitely a lot of people think just because it’s dec/jan/feb it has to be a top hare, those real good ones are hard to come by -

Must have some wind, I’ve seen a genuine timed 5 minute run with a top class bitch and there’s no way she could’ve ran the same run again back to back
