  1. Understandable wanting to get your money back but he’d probably be better going to a pet home for the dogs sake so he doesn’t end up on the merry go round, most working dog men are just messers.
  2. Hard to find good litters the past few years, still some decent rabbiting litters about but for anything else they seem few and far between
  3. Good pictures, what’s the breeding of her she looks racier than the others on this topic?
  4. Nice head on him none the less
  5. Was he a southern one Joe? 15 stone/210lbs is a cracking big body weight for a fallow buck
  6. Do you not mean aspirin not Valium? Aspirin thins the blood and helps dispense the lactic acid, never heard of giving Valium for acidosis
  7. Sometimes acidosis can just be mild and the dog bounces back ok but other times it can be severe. Its usually an early season problem with lurchers, unfit dogs being ran too hard, or dogs being ran when it’s too warm
  8. You must have just seen better dogs than me. I think I’ve seen some pretty good ones though, maybe not up to your standards but I’ve still never seen a dog that looks good on every quarry species
  9. Personally I’ve never seen a dog that can do all UK quarry to a decent standard, every good dog I’ve seen has had strong points and weak points. Even the ones that could turn their hand to a lot of different tasks were poor at at least one quarry. I think if you spend your life looking for the mythical all rounder you’re in for a lot of disappointment
  10. Why do you have to leave the thread? Why can’t you just put your point across in a normal way without slagging peoples dogs off that you haven’t seen? Everyone knows you like coursing bred dogs its your preference and there’s nothing wrong with that
  11. Hopefully this thread doesn’t go down the same route that dozens of other threads have gone.
  12. Some nice dogs there Joe. I think you’ve summed up the majority of the lurcher world though, whether they go out day or night most can’t seem to help but crab other peoples dogs, tell lies and exaggerate Thats not aimed at you @mC HULL just generalising
  13. Nice dog what’s his breeding? Is he yours?
  14. I was talking about the recent change in laws mate mostly relating to coursing. That’s been brought on by the land driving community
  15. Not many people still at it regularly with dogs these days, personally I think it’s a good thing, loads of people with very few brain cells being in to working dogs it’s what’s landed us where we are now with regards to laws
  16. Pre ban I loved hunting all species of deer, but for me the real excitement came from putting the dog against something bigger & more powerful than itself. Dogs that will do the smaller species are 10 a penny but to knock over the big ones single handed is no easy task & dogs that can do it regularly deserve the upmost respect in my book
  17. Fantastic quarry, a good single handed test for any dog
  18. Yes and no, you do need a dog with a bit of size and strength but the best I’ve seen on big game have been in the 25- 27” range & no heavier than 70lbs
  19. Definitely if I was after a foxing dog the last thing I’d be doing is adding any coursing blood, but for some things they can do well, and not always crossed with bull blood either, other types of lurcher like collie, deerhound or wheaten. But I’d agree with you the more coursing blood you add the less bottle you should expect the offspring to have
  20. The best thing you can do with a coursing dog is mate it to another kind of lurcher. On their own they’re an acquired taste for the average lurcher man
  21. Coursing dog over a lamper of some kind would be the obvious choice, unless you’re planning on running hares regular on big open places I’d stay away from a straight coursing dog they’re not as versatile as when you cross one with another type of lurcher. They can also lack a bit of bottle on some larger edibles so I’m told, but that’s another story
  22. Even on the lamp 5 hares in 1 field is some going with a young dog, never mind a 10 year old
  23. All about numbers for some but really big numbers don’t mean much because below average dogs can put plenty game away if they’re taken to the right places. The way the weathers gone the last few years anyone starting before October is taking a big risk with injuries anyway
  24. Good post, see it every year grown men rushing out in August & September to kill half growns, not just hares either the fawns and fox cubs get it as well. If a young dogs bred right and not entered too young it shouldn’t need starting on the young of any quarry.
  25. Agreed, and this will happen far more regularly if you own bull crosses…… Only joking, can’t wait till @mC HULL see’s this
