  1. Give me a thinker every time, regardless of land size or quarry for that matter. I don’t mean an over thinker that runs stuff for too long, but I think a lot of them are just half hearted and passed off as clever. I’ve had both types, the 100mph all action aggressive types & the thinkers that run just as fast as they need to & manipulate things and for me there’s no contest, the clever ones get a lot less injuries as well and if your dogs injured all the time well you’d be as well just having a pug or something
  2. Fair play to any man sticking at it, enough peoples went on about testing dogs gameness now it’s time to see if they’re as game as they expect their dogs to be
  3. I don’t know who you’re trying to convince, us of yourself? It’ll happen sooner or later so better to think about possible ways round it rather than being in denial
  4. Don’t be fooled it'll deter most, it’s easy to talk big but when it comes down to a possible sentence a lot of men won’t be so keen on dogs then
  5. Regularly when they’re dealing with repeat offenders, lads that’s had loads of convictions they’ll slap them with 6 month and a dog ban then 90% of coursing lads will sell up overnight & get in to something else
  6. Yeah going equipped they’re calling it, so you get your stuff took off you & charged for the pleasure
  7. Bringing in 6 month custodials for coursing mate & something to do with animal bans at court for repeat offenders, a lot of lads packing in so I’m hearing on the grape vine
  8. Be a lot less coursing type pups being bred when this new law comes in that’s for sure. Moneys gone right out of it, I know of a couple recent litters and lads can’t give them away for free never mind sell them
  9. If you’re after getting a pup on better sooner rather than later, if you get something that’s been born autumn/winter time it’ll be a more awkward age to start the following September, especially for a courser if that’s what you’re after
  10. If you get a good un with open space infront of it, no hedges or fencing they’re as quick as any quarry if not a touch quicker I’d say, but I’ve noticed the best runners are usually does, coincidence maybe? But I’ve seen some fallow really motor as well, think they look slower cause they’re bigger but they can shift when they get the foot down, different ball game stopping a fallow going at full tilt compared to stopping a roe though, maybe not so much fallow does but the big boys are a daunting task for any dog when they’re going for it full speed ahead
  11. I’ve seen some roe that no dog was catching & I’ve seen plenty that any average lurcher could’ve caught, a lot of dogs can catch them at night though that wouldn’t catch them in daylight mind, they seem to panic a lot easier at night & don't run half as well that’s just what I reckon to it myself though
  12. No worries mate, just mongrels mine are nothing fancy, bit of everything in there really, I’m not big on all the fancy breeding I just like a dog that tries it’s best
  13. I don’t really get your humour mate but that’s no worries ?
  14. Yeah that’s right but we were on about Salukis you’ve got more chance of a bull cross having a go than a pure saluki
  15. Course they are, I was just using fallow & reds as an example because they’re the biggest & take the most bottle for a dog to get stuck in to
  16. Hacksaw blade every time, tried those furminators they’re ok but I still rate the hacksaw blade better
  17. I think the people that are discrediting greyhound blood should try running dogs for a season without any in, they’d soon be back peddling I imagine
  18. In my experience most are cowards when it comes to big deer and I’ve seen enough to form an opinion
  19. When they’ve done that’s the only time to know for sure, you can’t give a dog credit for something it hasn’t done just because it looks keen, I’ve seen a lot of dogs myself that’ll gladly bully roe deer but run along side the bigger ones
  20. It’s nothing to do with the size of them, it’s whether they’d be mentally willing to stick it out with a big deer when it wasn’t going their way.
  21. I didn’t mention red stags, and I never said anything about running deer with a pure greyhound, what I said was greyhound blood is often forgotten about when talking lurchers but in my opinion it’s the most important part because without it very little would be caught. As I’ve said I’m no expert on hare coursing but I do know about deer & if a saluki met the wrong one of the 3 bigger species it would throw the towel in, as would the vast majority of line bred coursing dogs
  22. There’s deer and there’s deer, big difference from a dainty little roe or CWD & a big fallow buck or red. I’m sure if someone had taken the larger species with a pure saluki it would’ve been well documented
  23. Maybe fact was the wrong way to say it as there’s always exceptions to everything in dogs, but I’d have been very surprised to see a pure saluki take anything larger than a roe when it was legal.
