  1. Hares are a lot harder in daytime no doubt about it but I’ve seen some tidy daytime dogs miss their share on the lamp, just way it goes it’s not all black and white
  2. I like a run on a hare in daylight but I’ll be honest my dogs have missed their fair share on the lamp, them coursing breds are sound for long runs in daylight but give them 8-10 at night a lot of them can’t hack the pace, I’ll get called a liar no doubt but just what I’ve seen
  3. I’m glad I’m happy catching the odd hare when they crop up, sounds like a lot of stress this coursing job
  4. Same could be said for the type you keep though, show them a few foxes in a night or a few big spotted bucks & see how quick they’re back at it, assuming they’d actually have a go at those things in the first place that is
  5. Yeah dogs only need to be sharp for hares, everything else just rolls over really
  6. Had a look through a couple of them coursing books they was good for a giggle if nothing else
  7. I’ve had both ends of the scale over the years mate some dogs just more durable & tougher than others, some need resting up to run at their best others just seem to power through and take the hammer
  8. I’ve had them myself mate every time they have a knock it’s weeks in the sick bay no good if you want to be out
  9. Course it can but there’s a difference between a dog getting injured and an injury prone dog. Heard it all before if a dogs not getting injuries it’s not trying, or not getting ran enough, load of bollocks it is, seen dogs run 3/4 times a week and put loads of stuff away barely need a week off all season. These dogs can still get bad luck like a broken toe or whatever but it tends to be a one off and not a regular thing
  10. Always said that since I were young, if you need more than 2 dogs then you’ve got the wrong dogs. I only keep 1 lurcher and I’ve never found myself wanting. It gets a lot of work thrown at it as well. All these dogs that need resting all the time for injuries etc aren’t worth a wrap
  11. Im sure it was a southern fella had lucky as a pup. The buzz I get when my dog catches is because we’re a team, if I bought someone else’s dog & caught a hare with it I wouldn’t feel nothing, just the same as watching a strangers dog on a video
  12. Coursing games full of wealthy men that buy in someone else’s hard work, don’t mistake them for dog men though, take away their money they’d probably never have a good dog
  13. I saw a few clips of that Kim bitch he had she was a classy thing, my type of runner. I reckon you’d call MP more of a dog runner than a dog man. He gives them plenty stick and some thrive on it but they’re all bought in, a good dog man rears a pup from 8 weeks and makes a good un out of it
  14. You’ll get shit hares where he runs as well don’t worry about that. Thing is people think they’re watching a good hare when alot of the time the dogs just a shit killer that makes the hare look good
  15. Done it before but wouldn’t these days, even if you get lucky and it’s not been ruined you’ll still never get that bond with it or get it 100% how you want it like you do with a puppy straight out the nest
  16. Yeah that’s the trouble mate, I’ve seen it few times over the years, a friend of a friend who’s vouched for “a proper dog lad” they say, gets a pup. Next thing you know it’s 6 months down the line, the lads in to motorbikes or hawks & the pup has to go, turns out he’s put no time in so you’re left with a 7/8 month old dog that’s backward in the head getting passed from one person to another. Dogs never had a chance, then some idiot will breed off it eventually and the cycle repeats
  17. Yeah mate it can just be luck with people like that, me myself the few lads I run with get theirs for free, which isn’t many I keep myself to myself, and rest go to pet homes. Most dog lads are messing c**ts that don’t know what they want, one minute it’s deer dogs then it’s terriers then it’s a fox dog then it’s back to coursing dogs. I’d sooner know my pups was laid infront of a fire getting looked after than getting passed round one messer after another
  18. At that age go back to using a fur dummy or something similar, as black neck said a lot of dogs don’t like feather, and just 1 retrieve a day if you’ve been giving it too many it’ll be getting bored of doing it
  19. If you’re dealing with decent fellas & you’re a decent sort yourself you’ll get a pup for free, it’s the ones charging a grand id be wary of
  20. I’d have either, they’d both be better behind a hare then anything I’ve ever owned so wouldn’t be picky
  21. Top dog that bulldozer like I said I’m no expert but heard about him from lads in the know & if nobody could beat him says it all to me
  22. What do you think? What recent dogs would you put in that class?
  23. No dogs these days getting the amount of hares on good land that lucky got so impossible to compare
  24. Not being funny but this about animals speeds is more boring to read than when you boys was bickering with eachother, who cares how fast a hare runs as long as the dog runs quicker that’s all that matters
