  1. Well snakes, I hope you have done no damage. Well done to davyt63 for the manual. The heading "getting started" tells about the bolt to mid position, but actually doesn't say the possible consequences of not doing it. It does not mean problems for definite, but the chance of O-ring damage or displacement is there, if you do it wrong too much. (The bloke at work caused his to leak, after the first fitting of the air tank!!!) Enjoy your new toy mate!
  2. I use 71/2, 8 and 9 shot on clays, but nothing smaller than 6 on live targets such as rabbit and pigeon.
  3. Snakes, just a word of caution for when you screw on the air tank. The handbook tells you what to do with the bolt. I think it is about half cocked or in the magazine removing position or something. A chap at work bought a new S16 a short while ago, and because he did not read the instructions first, and just fitted the tank, he caused some seal to move and had a continual air leak round the mag. Had to go back to the manufacturers for rectification. Hopefully you have read the book and got no problems, but there does seem to be a trap you can fall in, if not.
  4. They look like a modern 110", but as roybo says, are very much a 109" style underneath with leaf springs etc. The engine is a modern Iveco diesel of 2.8 litres and a 5 speed box. The interior trim is rather poor plastic and the turning circle is a bit large. There are no LR style electronics for hill descent etc, but the gearbox has a crawler bottom gear in low range, which means they descend steep hills slower than supposed superior equipped types. A lot of metal for your money, and no frills motoring. I am surprised you see so few about. Was 2005 "off roader of the year"in the 4X4 magazine t
  5. Hello Oz, and welcome to the forum. Your plans for getting back into shooting, using targets first, sounds very sensible. Good luck mate.
  6. Hi luis, welcome to the forum. As always, I recommend a session at a clay ground to unravel the mysteries of leading the target. Then you may get half decent as you say.
  7. Cab, there is some good advice from skycat, (as usual) and I wouldn't want to add much to it. Just going on your reply though, I'm not sure you have read it properly. It seems you are heading back to the garden, and not intending any free running? Just go over the skycat post again mate. That handsome young pup needs some off duty time, with a regular recall and few minutes on the lead, just walking then released again. You may need for a bit, to use a long lead as Joe is suggesting. Keep it fun, don't bore the pup.
  8. I don't think it's a Labour party problem. Politicians of all parties, who know what is really wrong in this country, are so frightened to really speak their mind, in case they have to apologise and/or resign, that they just spout the all inclusive, multi cultural, politically correct claptrap, as if they believe it! I have no problem with folks from overseas coming here, as long as they come to work and fit in with us. Those who preach terror or behave like yardy gangs, should be booted out straight away. We have enough trouble making, anti social street trash of our own without importing mo
  9. Not seen one for years. The ASI Paratrooper, came out late 70's I think. One of the first military style guns and using die-cast body and frame. Said to be very accurate for a mass produced (Spanish) rifle, and quite a nice trigger. There was a multi shot called the Paratrooper Repeater. Not very powerful but great fun for plinking at about 40 pounds. We had a ASI "Centre" pistol at the air gun club I used to go to, it was used for any beginners to have a go with. Quite a beefy pistol that was.
  10. Hi RM. If you read through the bottom sticky, giving guidelines for this forum, it tells you this is not allowed. No one should post anything to up the power of an air rifle. It will be deleted if they do anyway. Best to visit a gun shop who have a chrono, you can then get it tested. If power is down, they could service it and set it up to a suitable output. This power level will depend on whether you have a FAC or not.
  11. Many years ago, when I had just started rough shooting, a pair of crows came by. Crossing left to right and about 35 yards out. I swung through the leading bird and pulled the trigger, BANG!! The 2nd bird, about 15 feet behind, folded up and hit the grass!! I learned a lot about leading the target from that. For birds coming straight at you, the shot will go behind them if you shoot at them. Lift the gun and after the incomer has disappeared behind the barrels, pull the trigger and keep the gun moving. Usually, if you can still see an incomer over the barrels, you will miss behind.
  12. Don't know if you bred or bought your pups? Remember though, most pups first car experience, is when some strange people arrive and drive off with them! Then they arrive at a strange house, with perhaps more strange people and dogs. You take them out again, and they get anxious, wondering where they will end up this time! When they realise that you take them out for good things, like walks and a bit of training, then back home, the confidence will come. There are though, some pups who really are car sick for a while, and the "sealegs" mentioned earlier do help, as does a couple of arrowroot bi
  13. it might seem nasty but chuck a bucket of cold warter at her in the face that what stoped my mates dog doing it Here we go again, make a unsettled new dog feel really welcome in it's new home!!!!!!!!! Try a radio as mentioned, also a warm hot water bottle in the bedding, to replicate body warmth of the dogs it used to sleep with. A bone or chew last thing, and a toy may help to settle it. Until it has the confidence that it is not abandoned,in a strange place, it may not sleep properly. If you resort to the water shock treatment, a squirt from a squeezy bottle is plenty. There is lots t
  14. I don't have my .410 anymore. (I regret selling it now). When using it for rabbit, my cartridge was always 3" of number 6. Never a problem. Edit to say, I forgot to actually vote, done it now. Also, always used Express shells.
  15. Help! Am I missing something here, I don't like things that don't add up. Adding all the test velocities, I get 5846, so an average of 584.6. The evaluation sheet, shows a max velocity of 804, when the graph clearly shows all shots are 700-ish. To my mind, the evaluation sheet, and the test sheet are from two different tests? Can someone explain please? Add them again mate you made a mistake...... 6486.0 total.... divide by 10 = 648.6 av. vel Er yeah, done that snap. Only got 5200 this time, think the solar power is going on my calculator! Changed calculators and got the total

  17. If as you say, she has lost a lot of weight in three weeks, then she is not getting enough food. We feed a bitch with pups about 5 or 6 times a day. Sandymere has posted some good advice regarding feeding. You don't mention what sort of dog, so meals need to be matched to size. Something labrador size for instance, would put away a half pound of mince three times a day with a half cup of goats milk. Then fill in with pasta, complete foods and veg with scraps in between. A bitch gives a lot to her puppies in the first 4 weeks, and it is not cheap to maintain her condition and energy during t
  18. Hello jaygee, welcome to the site. With your budget, you have plenty for a brand new Lanber or Betinsoli and others of similar standard, and get plenty of change. Personally, I would be looking to buy a slightly used Beretta, Miroku or Browning, as these are rather better guns and will last for many years. My own choice would be a 686 Beretta, as they are just so nice to shoot. They shoulder, point and swing really well. You will have probably used 32 grm shells previously, but nowadays, most people use only 28 grm (1 oz) or even 24 grm. They do the job well and don't knock you about at all. W
  19. The SJ410 is actually 970cc, and usually only has a 4 speed box, unless you find a Santana version which had 5 gears, but suffer badly with rot and electrical problems. The SJ413 is a 1300 and the best of the bunch is the 1300 Samurai, which is mechanically a SJ413 with the added advantage of low profile tyres and a slightly wider track. This was the answer to the problems with the Moose trials in USA, when stability was found wanting. Unfortunately, none of the small Suzuki's are cheap to insure for younger drivers.
  20. Yes, a very common problem with a lot of gun dogs. One of our youngsters would just "inhale" food like a hoover, then very shortly after chuck it all back again! The stone in the bowl method is interesting, we have slowed her up however, by putting her food in a wide dish, thinly spread to stop big mouthfuls going at once.
  21. Geoff shes 2 1/2 years old didn't start with her untill she was about 1 .thanks for comments. You have still done well, if she had no real training until you started at a year old. She is nowhere near mature really. Lots to learn yet.
  22. Nice story hily, you need patience and a sense of humor for training dogs, particularly those like ESS with strong character. At 18 months old, she is still a "teenager", and you know what they can be like! Just keep up what you are doing, she will be learning and gaining experience all the time. You should have a good shooting companion for 7 or 8 years at least. All the best mate.
  23. Ideally all ammo should be locked up, but shotgun stuff can legally be unsecured out of sight, in a wardrobe say. Depends if you have kids about etc Now ammo for a .22RF is firearm stuff, and MUST be locked in a cabinet, to which only the FAC holder has access. An inbuilt lockable compartment inside the gun cabinet is good, or a separate approved box of some sort has to be obtained.
  24. I assume you would be clay shooting with this load? Shot this small is ideal for clays and 1/4 choke at 30 yards is just right. I would not think of any live quarry with it though. A good way to get an idea of what your patterns look like, if you have the facilities, (because you can't do much at some clay grounds). Get a roll of wallpaper (thickish lining paper works for me), and hang it over a hedge or old pallet. Shoot away, and keep rolling out a fresh bit. You won't get the whole pattern on the width of paper, but you get a good idea.
  25. Sick b*****ds! The sad thing is,despite all the good guys who own them, this cruel act is too common in the greyhound fancy. They are usually kept in kennels in remote places, where there are no neighbors to notice a dog go "missing", or connect one with a news item like this. The police and RSPCA etc get no information, so the heartless people will do it whenever a dog is surplus for whatever reason, and be fairly confident that they will not be caught. Going on the paltry fines and 10 year bans etc for people who allow dogs/ horses / cats etc to starve to death in filthy conditions, there
