  1. Land Rover Owner magazine states a combined consumption of 28.5 mpg, for the 300tdi. This is an average of town work and out of town driving. Really, most of these larger 4x4's, whoever makes them, have a engine of 2.5 to 3.5 litres, dragging around a couple of tons of metal. You will get 25 -ish mpg to around a good 30 at best with most of them.
  2. There is a school of thought that snap caps are not required, and that the shotgun should be put away still cocked after cleaning. I always use them personally, so that after cleaning, you can let the pressure off the firing pin springs before storing. As watchman says, dry firing off without snaps can do damage.
  3. Wise words come down from the top of donk's mountain.
  4. Hmm! Very surprised at this, I have had no "miss-shapes" in my Winchesters before. I wonder if you have a bad batch? If you look at Ian's poll, Winchester are the favourite of most. I have found the quality to be equal to Eley's, and because my new rifle shoots equally well with both, I opt to pay 50p a box less for the Winchesters. I would take them back to the shop, and get them to check their stock.
  5. Flippen' ek....... I can see where you are coming from with the boiling water but that's the first time I have heard of that one......and not something I will be rushing to try!! I did say "some people" deker, I don't do it myself, but if you cork the muzzles and fill the tubes without soaking the working bits, it must loosen any dirt I guess.I think it a very old method. Now, what I do do, if there is anything showing past the cones, is to put the cleaning rod in a drill and run the bronze brush up and down that end only. It does no harm as the barrel is much harder than the bristles,
  6. Where you are seeing marking or debris, is the highest pressure point. Just beyond the forcing cones into the barrel, is where lead gets deposited with fibre wad loads and later when the gun is much older light barrel pitting will start, even with regular cleaning. If you are using plaswad shells, you are probably just looking at a bit of plastic deposited on the barrel walls through heat and pressure. This will scrub off with the brush. Some people swear by putting boiling water down the barrel first.
  7. I can confirm that HSBC DO phone you if they suspect something is not right, or a transaction appears "out of character" from what they know of your history. I was asked one Saturday, if I had put a bet of about a grand and a half on a horse at Epsom, using my debit card. When I told them I had not, they cancelled our cards and later sent replacements. The bet was of course voided. I did ask if we could delay that, and split the winnings if the horse came good!!
  8. Had a look through my "Pull" magazine, but can't find anything about Darton or Barnsley. Possibly, it's not a CPSA affiliated ground you mention. Have a look on the CPSA website, you don't have to be a member. See if you can find a ground convenient to you.
  9. What town is this Craigyboy? I can't be bothered to check up on 01942. What about a petition to support Mrs Whiteside, in your area?
  10. It's very much a "you pays your money and takes your choice" really. They all work at reducing noise, whether you have new foam ones at every shoot, or buy electronic earmuff types.(These will also hold your hat on in a wind!) I have some personal moulded ones for industrial use, these cut out all the noise, but I can't hold a conversation between stands. I also have some "sonic" ones, but the rubber sealing rings are breaking up, so need to replace them. These sonics, or custom moulded ones with similar performance, are probably the best. Or at least, the most convenient, as the shot noise is
  11. Why change something that is working for you? We always use the Acme 210 1/2, and don't foresee changing this. We have an adjustable whistle somewhere, but actually find it better to be able to hear the "commands", so 210 1/2 it is!
  12. The Scottish parliament is after getting more powers, to become more devolved from Westminster. This is not going to happen overnight, but could be pushed through sometime quite soon I guess. When it was first reported, they listed their intentions, the first one being to raise or lower taxes for Scotland. Then, depending on what news report you saw, the 2nd or 3rd item, was banning air guns. As there has been a lot of incidents in Scotland with air guns, this was probably seen as a way to get the public behind more devolution. My guess anyway.
  13. has not set their status

  14. Going down a local country lane, about 3 years ago, saw a bunch of yellow jackets in the distance. I thought it was roadworks or an accident. When I got close it was 5 blokes with tripods and big scopes. I pulled up and asked what was about. They said it was a white stork. One let me have a look through his scope, I had never seen a stork before. It was on it's own, no mate, and stayed around for about 3 weeks, never more than a mile from where I first saw it. Then it disappeared and one has not been seen since. A chap who lives near, and walks the fields there, has a few feathers off it.
  15. Fair play Tom. It may only affect Scotland initially, but once a ban was in place, it would give westminster a big lever to spread it. As the tv news said, they would be able to raise/lower taxes, set their own speed limits and then ban airguns. As a possible ban was either the 2nd or 3rd item mentioned, depending which news you saw, it shows how high up the agenda it is, and what has been said already to the media. I think anyone has a right to post on this "hot potato".
  16. Do we get a reminder when due to donate again? I haven't a clue when mine is due! Edit Just seen I am not a donator now! Need a reminder how to do it please. I have paypal.
  17. No problem, glad to help out. West Kent advertise in the CPSA "Pull" magazine, I have no personal experience there but they look to have a nice place, and do lessons for novices. In case you need it, their phone number is 01892 834306. As a novice, I would expect you will get a talk on safe handling of shotguns to start with.Next, establish if you have a master eye problem or not. Then talk about shooting safely, so as not to endanger others etc. They will find a gun to suit you,fit you up with ear plugs, then perhaps have a bash at a single incomer. It helps your confidence if you can dust ab
  18. I can't recall much on here about Webleys. There must be some who use them? At the clay club I go to, no one has one as far as I know. When the "new" Webley range first came out, there were some quality problems, but I believe there has been a shake up or manufacturer change, so are improved now. I think they are still made in Turkey though. This is only what I have read in magazines. There was a lifetime warranty with them, may still be? Don't rush into buying any shotgun anyway. You should try as many as you can, to see what you are most comfy with. Although most are built to suit "Mr Average
  19. I don't know what a stalker model looks like, but I did have a screw on JLS on my last CZ. It was no trouble to strip and clean occasionally, also was very quiet using .22rf subs. It still looked new when I let it go in PX.
  20. I know nothing about your new gun either! Sorry. I do have a mate with a rifle that takes CO2 powerlets, two at a time. I can't recall it's make, but he gets CO2 in bulk off E-bay. Buying about 20 at a time brings the price down. They are not refillable, use and dispose.

    idiot

I watched the video last night, and am still seething now. I would bet this twat is known to the local old bill, and could be arrested shortly. The tape is good enough for identification. The dog is past help now, and if caught will be for the chop. Stupid brain dead inadequate moron's like this should never be allowed a dog at all, I would drive to Cricklewood and kneecap him if I could get away with it. See him swagger about then. Hope the guide dog is able to resume it's good work soon.
  22. Tidy looking motor Scarecrow, I hope it does well for you. The V8 sounds great, and is lovely to drive. If you only do a small mileage, the fuel bills are manageable.
  23. You don't say how this gun loads, (breech or muzzle) or what caliber it is. I do know that some old guns of obsolete calibers, can be retained "off ticket", as even not deactivated, they are classed as an ornament/collector's piece. I think, if ammunition is still available for it, then you need it on your license.Best to check with your FEO to be sure.
  24. This should be a warning to everyone. Anything (gun like) found, should be just reported, and left where it lies. It seems the law makes no allowances, and he did actually leave it until the next day, before reporting it. So technically, he was "in possession"and without a license. Really tough the way it turned out for him, I hope he appeals successfully.
  25. You could have the range all day, but you have to book, and it's 6 quid per hour. Just have a few dates handy for yourself, and call them on 01827 383300 to see what's available. It's a bit rough and ready, basically a huge water pipe buried in a embankment on the edge of an old Trap set up. It is about 110 yards, and the firing point is under cover. Take your own targets and staple to the pallet in the pipe. A mate and myself usually book for 2 hours, you can do a lot of shooting in that time. Rarely ever see anybody, as it's a quiet corner of the ground. You need to take your FAC, as you
