Manda,it's ok to pull them out as long as you have a proper tick remover. This has angled jaws like tweezers, but they meet at the tip and leave a gap behind. This enables you to take hold of the tick's abdomen, leaving the blood filled "stomach"intact. You then twiddle it around until it lets go,check that both the jaws have stayed on the tick. Check the site on your dog or ferret, and just dab a little antiseptic on. The best way to kill a tick, once removed,is to belt it with a hammer!! They can live for days if dropped in water like you would fleas. The very worst thing you can do is try to pu

The cars you mention are all pretty good. Like most modern-ish cars, they can suffer from mysterious electrical faults and sensor problems. In general though, any estate by Vauxhall,Ford and Peugeot are roomy and reliable. Also worth considering is the Citroen ZX estate, quite a few about and very robust motors. Early Toyota models also seem to maintain the high reliability which they are famous for.

Nice tale Ditchy, very well told. I quite look forward to your adventures! Well done Chaz for the badger picture, very good result with your hands full.

A wise choice desbo, I like the look of the tactical and might be tempted soon. I would think any ammo that works well in a lightning, would be good for a tactical? My mate uses Bisley magnums and Accupels in his, both seem ok.

Hi maxx, welcome to the forum. There are some good guys on here, and plenty of help and advice to be had. Take your time choosing a air rifle, you are right about how advanced some of them are. B####y expensive too! Some though,in my opinion, have developed for the hunter field shooting competitions, and are recoilless, heavy weight shooting machines not suitable for walking round fields all day. There is a lot to be said for a simple, reliable springer which just goes on and on,and you don't need a bearer to carry it about. (Watch me get some flak now)!

Hi Buster, you will get used to the "hairdresser" jibes. The Suzuki fraternity even use the term for the more "girlie" colours, particularly the two special editions, the dusky pink "Rossini" and the spearmint green "Verdi". They don't mean any harm, and anyone who hasn't driven one knows no better anyway! Now,the jack? Well, I don't exactly know myself, but almost sure to be in one of two places. The Jimny has a board over a hole under the rear mats, the jack and brace etc is in there. My old Samurai had the jack handle clipped to the front of the driver's seat mount, and the jack was under the bo

Cheers Geoff. those came in like a flash, then all of a sudden just left..had to be quick..I was waiting for a woodpecker to come when they arrived.. Good job you were ready and waiting for the woodpecker. (I do get one of those fairly regularly). I have read that the long tailed tits are usually in a group, land, quick feed and away again. You did well to "shoot" this lot.

Super picture,I'm really jealous! I put loads of good stuff out for the birds, and get most of the tits and finches calling. I have only once though seen a long tail tit. It was all alone, took some sunflower heart and cleared off, never to call again.(Not when anyone is looking anyway). I frequently see little groups of them fly over the garden, when I'm outside, but they never look like landing.

Tx 200, Pro-sport, Evo....... Tactical?????
Geoff.C replied to Bush Rummager's topic in Airgun Hunting
Hi Bush Rummager, the trouble with posts like this is,you can get lots of opinions of what folks would have or think is best. You can end up more undecided than ever!! So, for what it's worth,my opinion. It's the BSA every time for me. Every time you cock it and load it, it will fire and produce about the same power as the previous shot. No chance of leaking air reservoirs or faffing with "buddy bottles"etc. but each to his own eh? AS it's mostly field work I would opt for the .22 for the knockdown power. -
Hells Bells!! What a shooting machine!! Now come on lads, thinking caps on. What's a good reason to give your firearms officer for owning one??

Molly, that is a superb poster. Any idea where I could buy one or two for display around the house?

Gun crime up by 4%? Now that surprises me,I would have thought it much more than that! I have noticed though, very little, if any gun incidents are reported as involving a sawn off shotgun. With handguns seemingly freely available, from perhaps middle eastern or Russian sources,no one uses the sawn off now. Perhaps those of us with legally held shotguns etc will be left alone for a bit? No needless restrictions thought up as a knee jerk reaction? Well we can hope anyway.

Radio aerial leaks but one side only of course. Blocked rain drains on the heater box can cause it to overflow, both sides. You could also have(depending how old really) rot holes caused by mud trapped high on the inner wings. The head under, with a torch, and a mate with a gentle hosepipe is the best method as stubby says.

Good advice Kat, I was taught,as a lad, to get the dogs neck in line with it's back as it eats. So always adjust the bowl height to suit the animal. This is supposed to reduce the "hoovering" of air as they eat. Tall breeds like Lurchers, have a long way to lift the food from the floor level. It doesn't matter much of course,if they are lying down with a lump of lamb or chicken.

Lincoln 12g Lightweight Shotgun
Geoff.C replied to Knifebar's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I have found the Nickerson website now, have a look yourself at www.ukhunting.com. Go to "products" then shotguns and all the Lincoln range is there. There is in fact a 26.75" barrel version in the 12 bore range,so you could well be spot on with your size. As they can't add a bit on,I guess you would have to decide to go with it,or wait for a true 28" to arrive in stock. That extra length could just alter the feel compared to the shorter one. -
I have a genuine Suzuki factory manual, got it for a fiver off e-bay. Got to be your first port of call. Don't know where you are,but I always get 2nd hand spares from The Suzukiman, Leabrooks, Derbyshire. 01773604444 The little Aisin carb on the 410 is very simple, and gives little trouble. I don't know what symptoms you have, but carb ice is a big problem on them. You must ensure the warm air pipe from the manifold muff,to the air filter is in good condition. Even a small crack is enough to cause ice. There is a Suzuki spares seller on e-bay,seems to be ok. Some people make an adapter, and fit

Hi Nicola, I can't see any video of a retrieve. Just a "sign on" page for photobucket. Could you give me a clue what to do? Please be gentle!! Hi geoff sorry not sure whats gone wrong, it's worked on other forums , try copying and pasting this link in a browser :- http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y136/drui...12012008014.flv Thanks Nicola, that works fine. I do like to see a dog running back like that, all confident that he has done well. Let me know if that works Nicoa

Lincoln 12g Lightweight Shotgun
Geoff.C replied to Knifebar's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Don't know about the barrel length of course, you will have to measure it if you are bothered.I have a mate who has shot a Lincoln for the last 5 years, and had no problems at all.I like using it too,it's a bit more lively than my Lanber. At the asking price,I would think it's new or next to new. Lincoln's are imported by Nickersons of Lincolnshire, hence the name. They are made by one of the Rizzini family of gunmakers,so have a good Italian pedigree. They must be a biggish family, the Rizzini's as they produce guns for several other companies, and some under their own name. Those are E.Rizzini ( -
Doubt it Steve,or why would anyone go on economy 7,or whatever it's called now. Having said that,if you look on the changing suppliers site (can't think what it's called) you may find one of the suppliers does, even for a limited time, reduce the price at night.

This is such a sad and needless end to a good dog's life. Unfortunately, if you have no idea who it may have been, there is little chance of the culprits being caught. They would need to be found with the remaining dog,and this relies on you or one of your mates spotting them together. The police will make all the right noises, but the chance of them even investigating is very slim. Regarding one or two other comments, having a gun and a 4x4 does not sound like anti's to me. Have you any traveller sites nearby? So sorry for your loss mate, you just feel helpless in situations like this.

I shall have a look round the new site now. Macnas, where is your pirate picture etc,and why are you showing as a guest? You are part of the furniture on here.

A cracking elegant breed! (A touch dizzy at times) Extremely slow maturing but challenging to train... I have four year old bitch. She has done approx. 40 days picking up this season along with countless wildfowling flights and days pigeon shooting. When she's good she's untouchable...when she's bad, forget about it! Should be putting her back in pup spring time this year to a cracking working dog. They are good fun but you need A LOT of patience with them. The more you put in, the more you get out of a flattie. Nicely put Gamebirdmeg, you have about summed up the Flatcoat there. I see

As an occasional breeder of Flatcoats,I would say go for the ESS!!! You have to have a good sense of humour and not be easily embarrassed to train and work a Flatcoat. They take about 7 years to mature, known as the "peter pan" of the gundog world. You can enter and win a gundog test one week, then the same dog, a few days later, dons a dunces cap and acts the total prat!!

Re read the first post Rob, the asking price was twice this. Moss got it reduced by agreeing to "breeding terms". If I get to rule the world,"breeding terms" will be banned!! You are dead right on the price of a DECENT TRAINED springer,as long as the dog really is "decent trained". Seems to me,the dog in question here had possibly had several owners already and been trained with a big stick. At any gundog event,if I see a dog crawling in with a retrieve, looking apprehensive, my initial urge is to kick the handler!!
