Some Swallows round here, but only in "twos and threes" yet, not seen any large flocks. Not seen any swifts, and a barn where I go has house martins every year, but not arrived yet. Seems a very slow year for these type of birds?

This is very sad. He was really one of the greats. The Belfast Telegraph article is well written. I saw no news last night, but watched breakfast TV for half an hour this morning. Not a mention of this at all!!

Investarm 410 gauge 100L Deluxe Over and Under
Geoff.C replied to ferreterwithnets's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
SS the investarm is not supposed to be a folder unless the stop pin is removed. I agree, they are awkward if in folding mode, but you can have the gape like a normal shot gun if the pin is in. I always kept mine normal. Apart from the need to positively push the top lever right across 90 degrees, to reset the triggers I always found mine a great little gun. The trigger is not selective but with little choke difference on those tiny barrels, it doesn't matter. I always used 3" Eley 6 shot cartridges, for that bit more stopping power. If you buy one ferreter, always make sure you don't lose -
Hi hingindoolie, I have a JLS on my CZ .22lr, it came with the rifle so I didn't actually choose it. It is probably the one listed for airgun and .22 in the link you put up. It is not the best of quality perhaps, the inside baffles are just a series of coated (cadmium?) springs and fibre coated washers. The outside is not just painted, it may be a phosphate coating, anyway it still looks good to be fair. It's not heavy and gun balance is probably better with it on anyway. I strip and clean it about once a month maybe, so it takes no looking after really. Now the most important bit, when you

Quite a successful walk anyway clayman. It won't be long before you hear "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaad, can I borrow your 686"!!

I was thinking that ratman, some folks have to take everything so flaming serious these days. Also, if the car was not speeding, it would not get photographed? So I'm thinking it may have been a mobile unit with a copper working it, another one with no sense of humour.

Great shot Byron, plenty of pied wagtails round here and a fair few greys, but I haven't spotted a yellow for ages.

I've had this experience too mark, using a rimfire. If a rabbit you shoot at goes down, then there has to be a hole? Sometimes though, when it may be a smallish rabbit, I think the shot may go straight through without making any mess. The fur closes back over, and your rabbit looks as if it is lying asleep. If you take the time to turn back the fur, you should find at least the entry wound, but it may not bleed at all so can be hard to find.

Well, as I said I have yet to try the wooden stocked Cynergy (The Pro Sport), but I imagine it will feel much better than the composite "Black Ice". Don't commit to buying a composite one without a good trial, is all I would say. Mechanically, they are identical I think, same outline on the wood stock as the composite, very low action height. They certainly look different, and come with a 10 year guarantee.

One of the most famous "planks", Jade Goodie is well on her way to her 2nd million. Good going for someone who doesn't know what country East Anglia is in!!!

No 1 the day I was born?? Well after a quick look at the link to "the old days", I'm not sure there was a top 20!! If there was one, it would be something like Vera Lynn singing "There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover" I can tell you that the first record I bought, was Living Doll by Cliff. Played it on my "one at a time"Dansette!! Right, you can all have a laugh now.

Definitely plenty of Buzzards in South Derbys, also a reasonable amount of Peregrines. These were given a huge helping hand when the falcon boxes were put on the cooling towers at Willington. Don't know if these are still being maintained, or are even still there now the power station is closed?? Perhaps the Peregrines are so well established now, that it doesn't matter either way? Kestrels? Well to me, there seems to be one hunting along every hedgerow.

Hello Wasp, and welcome. You already know your way around the site, but it will be better now you have "come out" and signed yourself up.

Gday to you Eelesie, welcome to THL. Hope you find lots of interest on here.

You have about written my experiences SS. Like you I have not owned one, but shot quite quite a bit with a "black ice". They sure look different and feel very different. Crossers take some getting used to, think the one I used was a 30". The chap at the club who owned it, never really got to grips with it and chopped it back in for a normal Browning. It would be nice to try the wooden stocked version, but no one I know has one.

Not yet a while Frank. These were just local council elections, and when a lot of people are displeased with the government,(hunting, fuel tax, 10% income tax, immigration, Iraq to name a few) they vote to give them a bloody nose in council elections. Unfortunately, they tend to revert to type when a general election is on. I wonder how it would go though, if Brown had the balls to call a general election right now.

Another good yarn from DS. One day we may all find out what you were watching? Good idea from cuagusgiorrai.

Heard a cuckoo this morning, my first of the year. No doubt some have been heard earlier, but May 2nd is not bad round here. Also, had a couple of Swallows flying round at low level last night, as I walked my permission. Signs of summer coming hopefully?? Sorry, no pics. Camera left in car last night, and couldn't see the cuckoo!!

Similar case in the local paper recently. Now if you have not been to Spain, or bought a ticket for their lottery, would you really expect to win it??? One lady after being notified that she had won the Spanish lottery, sent all her details as requested for the money transfer. A money transfer did take place, but it was not in the direction she was expecting. Later she was relieved to have only lost about £700. A hard lesson learned methinks.

Just a tip,if you know anyone in the RSPB, ask to borrow the magazine. Plenty of bino's advertised in there. Some very good stuff, without paying a fortune. There is also some expensive ones, depends on your pocket depth I guess.

5 year old jack lands a whopper! VIDEO ADDED
Geoff.C replied to fishfish's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Lovely pictures fishfish, he looks so pleased with himself. He did well to land a whale like that. -
The mini-maglights would not have enough beam. I would think however, that the smallest "D" battery version the 2xD cell would give plenty of beam for air gun ranges and not be too heavy.

Hiya, I bought myself a new Lanber Sporter Delux at the end of Feb. It's my first shot gun as i only got my ticket a week before buying it! The gun is superb it fits me perfect and shoots like a dream. I went for the 30" version and i love it to bits and was pretty chuffed with the price too (£600 with free gun slip). It handles perfect in the field when pigeon/rough shooting which is my main use for it, although it does feel rather lengthy on the skeet range. Having said that im getting consitent scores with a PB of 19 (i'm still a learner ;-)). I really like the multi-choke and select

Wash the feet in lukewarm salted water after a walk. One of our dogs reacts badly, if she has been working on ground with young thistles growing. She will lick and chew at her feet, but a salt wash usually stops it. Always have a good look for any tiny thorns in or between pads.
