Thanks for sharing the pictures CC. I inherited a little suitcase full of old pictures when my mum died, some of them we have never identified. I think the "bubble car" was a Isetta motocoupe plus, to give it it's full name, made by BMW I think. Several similar vehicles were produced at the time of the Suez crisis when fuel really was short.Great one of your mum and dad with the bike! Your grandad does look a bit severe, but most folks seem like that when posing for old slow plate camera's. I bet with that high starched collar and tight tie, he could only just breathe, never mind smile.

Hello jai$1, welcome to the forum. I would like to know more about the pistols in various calibres you have.

Hi Peakoil, welcome to the forum. (Did you knock my lad's door mirror off in Belper last month?)

Yet another introduction from some unknown newbie!
Geoff.C replied to Transit's topic in New Member Introductions
Welcome Transit, Hey, are you a white van man? -
Sounds like you need a brake fluid change. The fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere (hygroscopic) and this water contamination will lower the boiling point. This is mostly not a problem until you make heavy continuous demands of the brakes. (20 minutes steep downhill) Then the fluid nearest the caliper piston heat source (disc pads) will boil and give a spongy pedal.

I've been watching the olympics, whatever is on when I can. Seen some great boxing, some bad luck in Judo and badminton. Just a thought though, most of the events are in Beijing but the sailing/rowing is at Shanghai and the equestrian at Hong Kong? Both these places are 200 miles or so, away from Beijing. No one is complaining about the spread out venues, as far as I can tell. Why then for 2012 are our lot insisting on building a £25M facility for the shooting sports in Woolwich, to save the shooters a 40 miles? trip to Bisley. Despite protestations from the NSRA and CPSA, Lord Coe and his l

Looks like a total PR disaster for that police force. If officers were under threat or actual attack from some sort of fighting/guarding dog, you could understand them shooting. To kill a couple of gentle gundogs who were probably frightened anyway, is totally inexcusable. The mayor looks like having a battle to get satisfaction here. The police spokesmen are just closing ranks. I thought USA mayors had more power than this chap seems to have?

The Glorious Twelfth

I dare say I'll be shooting SS, but it will only be the bunnies again!! -
The official amount of play in the steering wheel is 10 to 30 mm. If it exceeds this, you can screw in the wormshaft preload screw a bit. Half a turn may be enough. To actually set the preload, Suzuki recommend removal of the steering box, but I think it can be done in situ. You would have to disconnect the steering column, and the pitman arm, so the steering box is isolated. Line the pitman arm with the wormshaft, then wrap string around the rubber coupling, pull on this string with a spring balance. The starting torque, (the load on the balance as the box starts to rotate) is 4.3 to 7.5 lbs

Then you would be in a minority pal. There is a large section of society who would have this as the ENGLISH national anthem.

Similar to Gav, I shoot felt cleaning pellets through, catching them in a scrunched up towel or something. Usually, after half a dozen have gone through, and the rifling marks are just marks and not dirt, I shoot a final oily one through. For general wiping down of any gun, i use a reel cloth, it's just a silicone impregnated yellow duster really, and will remove all fingerprints. Usually about £4 from any gun / fishing shop.

He's a lucky lad, I was nearly 20 before I had my first shotgun. I would have loved one like that. Just one thing though, he looks in the pictures as if he's trying to sight with his right eye? I know the pics are posed, and he is not actually shooting, but even a .410 will bruise your face if not held correctly.

This really pisses me off, quite frankly!! A baby is coming along and the bloody dog is on the scrap heap. My two kids have never known our house to have less than two dogs around. Kids grow up better off for having them around in my opinion.

A bit of news on the Litts situation. In the August edition of "Pull", the CPSA magazine, it says that Sportsman Gun Centre, based in Exeter have bought the business. The main shop, and "Treetops " shooting ground in Newport will continue. Litts also had a gunroom at the Royal Berkshire shooting school, but it is unclear if that continues. There is no financial detail at all.

being colour blind I've never noticed these before
Geoff.C replied to swanseajack's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Well he probably wouldn't get a job as a train driver, if he cannot distinguish red/green amber etc. I believe that colour blindness varies in what part of the spectrum you cannot see. I have a mate (over 60 now) who has a degree of this, he has managed to obtain a private pilot's license and even a night rating, as he can distinguish red and green. There are various colours he cannot see, and is barely able to wire a 3-pin plug without a bit of guidance. He has just had to adapt to the condition, he says his colour perception has not altered much all his life. -
Anyone into Civil Aviation? I have a Question.
Geoff.C replied to SportingShooter's topic in General Talk
An old saying I remember from school days "There's a little red port, left in the bottle" This reminds you that port is left, and the red lamp is on the left side. Light aircraft have to display, as Farlap says, a red lamp on the end of the port wing and a green one on the starboard. There is also a white one shining backwards in the tail. There is a required arc of light, I think the wing ones are 90 degrees from ahead to the side, and the tail one is 140 degrees total. This is so if you are flying at night, the amount of nav light you can see, gives you a good indication of the other ai -
Some pics from yesterday's swimming trip

Some nice pictures BC. I love the pup's face. The Martin is a friend for life by the look of it!! -
Went to my local gun shop for some more .22 subs yesterday. While there, the owner showed me these JW80 .22 rf rifles. They are Chinese copies of a CZ, and look much the same. They are screw cut with a endcap, have very tidy woodwork and the metal is nicely blacked. They have open sights fitted and a scope rail of course, also sling swivels. They feel very nice to hold, balance is fine. I didn't get to fire it so don't know how the trigger feels, the bolt slides nicely. Don't know if anyone has any experience of these, but as they are being knocked out at £140, they might be a good choice fo

Absolutely bloody brilliant!! I wonder why he didn't save ammo and club it with the butt as it went past. With twats like this giving fuel to the antis, it's a case of, with friends like this, who needs enemies??

You probably do get a slightly better pattern with plaswads. However, both the clay grounds I use have a fibre wad only rule. So I never buy anything but fibre now. I find the pigeon specials ideal for rabbit and pigeon. and always have a few in my bag for when clay shooting. I find it pays to use #6 shot on rabbit clays, as these can be hard to break sometimes.

I always understood that the name derived from Charles James Fox......1749-1806 the notorious MP who was a noted gambler and huntsman of that period. Rolfe. Thanks for that info Rolfe and 297chrisc, it's amazing what you can find out on here!

It may be a regional thing which has spread about? Foxes are called "Freddie" round here by some people. In the phonetic alphabet, as used by police, fire, aviation etc, C-F is Charlie Foxtrot, it may just be something to do with that?

I agree with you scothunter, I hate hospitals and can't drink milk. Strange memories can last a lifetime. BUT, as SS says, blood donation sessions are rarely at hospitals. If you contact your nearest bloodbank office, they will send you a list of collecting days and venues, in your locality. Pick one convenient for yourself and make an appointment. The biggest single complaint was the waiting, but methods have been improved. You should get tested, donated and have your tea and biccies in less than an hour nowadays. I go on a Friday to a local village hall, they have a afternoon session and a e

Ian, I for one know nothing about this, no doubt I am not alone. Can you post a bit more detail then perhaps more will give it a go. Is it actually a radio thing or do you access it through the PC? What's the frequency or address?

Breay, are you sure of the spelling? I have never heard of Balor and have even looked in a road atlas for it. Do you mean Bala? We have some friends with a static caravan at Llandderfel near Bala, can't remember the name of the pub we were in last but it was ok. Bala is not very big, but all I need on a Saturday night in town is a good pub and a chippie.
