Does anyone know why the first few replies to this post have gone? Mine was the first, I think, and none were offensive, all helpful to the lad I would say. Have they been deleted or just lost?

The banks lose billions of pounds of investors (our) money by gambling with it. Brown and co bale them out with a shit load more of our money, so they have funds to loan out etc. So instead of getting the money markets flowing again, they award themselves a fat bonus for being abject failures. Some jumped up spokesman reckoned they had to pay bonuses to keep the best staff! Aint it the best staff that caused the situation we are in??

Welcome to THL Deadlock. There is room for everyone on here, doesn't matter if you tell stories or not mate!

I can't give an opinion on either place, as they are both well out of my area. Why not try them both, and see if you prefer one or the other? Me and my wife, and friends, go to three or four different places with the gun dogs. It depends on what you are teaching them at the time, and what facilities (woodland/ water etc) are available.A well trained gun dog adds enormously to the pleasure of a day out shooting, but the gun dog training, and the social side, can become a hobby on it's own.

Me too Doxhope, never seen a one yet!! We were lucky in 2007, quite a few seemed to "settle" in Derbyshire, particularly around Carsington Reservoir. Haven't seen one since!!

£25 per hour is not bad these days. If you go along say, once a fortnight for a couple of months, you should get a really good grounding in the basics of good gun dog training for £100. These places usually have good facilities, and can put yourself and dog into "working" situations that you would find hard to do alone.

When we have pups, they usually have their first solid food at 3 to 4 weeks. It is always some scraped rump steak! when scraped across with a sharp knife, it becomes a very fine mince, ideal for little stomachs which have only dealt with mother's milk yet. About a heaped desert spoon full is enough. Most of the above ideas involving crushed puppy food etc are ok, and using goats milk is good. Supplement with fine lamb mince for variety. If what comes out the other end is firm-ish, you can reckon you are not over doing anything.

Nice tale FH. Don't know where you are, but at 7:20 round here, you would not have seen through the blizzard!! She certainly looks in very good condition, apart from being dead of course!! Hope she tastes good mate.

True words from maltenby and SS as usual. There is some great people on here, and lots of real knowledge. You just need to skip over the dross and silly threads about "nowt" which develop sometimes. I do miss Ditches stories though!

I have never heard that mate. Dogs always enjoy a run in snow, mine get quite giddy with excitement when they feel snow under them. What you do have to watch for though, is if they start to limp. An iceball will often form between the pads which will cause pain. You just need to break it off the hairs and away they go again. Nice pics Kay, your two had a ball!!

It may just need some lubrication in the right place. If something has broken, like a pivot pin or spring, it can all be repaired. I have just had a new selector/safety catch assembly fitted to my Lanber. Total cost was £45 I think. It seems to go wrong about every 5 years, whereas the Beretta is never any trouble. Just different design and quality I guess. You can't really sell it with a fault, but when it's fixed, you may decide you like it again!!

There have been a couple of posts on this subject, seems to be a fair few blackies about. I have them on my permission, I see adults and little ones. They have jet black coats and it's a softer hair than the brown rabbits. They seem to breed as readily as the others, I don't know if you need two black rabbits together, or if a black and brown mating can produce both? I also see some that live in an embankment by the A38, about 2 miles from my shoot.

thanks for the info i just had a look on guntrader and there is one on there for £350 and as for me not getting on with it its just that i dont like the way you have to puss the selector/button to fire the other barrel i just cant get on with it Hi ukhunter, if your gun will not fire both barrels, by simply pulling the trigger twice, it is faulty. The selector just selects which order you fire in, top then bottom or bottom first then top. A fault with a selector is not uncommon, and if left, it may develop into firing off both barrels together. You need to completely release the tr

4 Gun gun cabinet for 2 shotguns
Geoff.C replied to sidrana7's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
You are right with all you say mate. I was not thinking about kids being about, so shotshells need to be more than out of sight.(My lad once was sent home from school, for dropping bricks on some 6mm blanks which I had not put away!!) Could have been much worse though! Just think what you may do in the future, if you are likely to to go FAC and get a rifle, you may be better in the long run to get a suitable cabinet now. Otherwise the two guns and the ammo in a four gun cab will be spot-on. I would always have the cabinet in the warm if possible, but guns kept in a attic/loft located cabinet -
I don't know if these are anywhere near you, but my "Pull" magazine has a couple of Somerset clay grounds in it. Mendip SG at Wells, 01749-673471 and Podimore SG at Ilchester, 07767-204474. The CPSA contact man for the area is Mike Cochrane, 01935-840853. A quick call to any of these could get you started. You would be surprised how many helpful shooters are out there, and willing to get youngsters on the right track.

While I agree with much of what you say Onan, I would like to hear the views of a hunting type lifeboat man/woman. I don't think they need bringing up to scratch or being non-voluntary. There is never a shortage of crews, and many people are very grateful for the attendance of these brave folks. Just ensure they all have a good boat and safety kit, and leave them to get on with it,I would say.

4 Gun gun cabinet for 2 shotguns
Geoff.C replied to sidrana7's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I'm sure that will be fine. I think most FEO's are happy if the shotguns are secured, and the ammo is just out of sight. If you can get it under lock and key, then so much the better. Firearm ammo has to be secured in approved cabinet or box. When you eventually get more shotguns, (oh yes you will), you could secure an old army ammo box to the floor, and keep shot shells in that. -
Tamworth angler jailed for keeping air rifle
Geoff.C replied to charlwood1005's topic in Airgun Hunting
No idea what the "domestic incident" was, that caused the police to be at his house. I can only guess it was some sort of argument that went out of control, perhaps involving threats to someone? In a case like that, the police have to look for weapons that MAY be used if the situation were to escalate. He would have had the rifle pulled anyway, even if he had a ticket for it. Pity his brief didn't do a better job of familiarising himself with the law, regarding firearms. Nine months just for having the gun sounds bad, but I think it could have been five years. -
It's probably quite common for two shooters in a family to share a cabinet. As you will both have access, then when you actually purchase a shotgun, it will have to go on both tickets. My son and I had each other's shot guns on both certificates for some years. When I upgraded to a coterminous FAC, and he couldn't be bothered, I had to get a rifle cabinet with ammo locker, which he cannot get into.

A mate of mine has a Ruger b/a and a "cheapo" Magtech semi-auto. He uses Eley in the Ruger, but just the budget priced Magtech subs in the semi. It seems to cycle fine with these. You will get the odd jam with any s/a or brand of ammunition.

A bit "after the horse has bolted" I know. But just for information, before a clay shoot recently, I loosed a couple of barrels of No6 shot at some safety glasses. Just put loads of dimples in the lenses, but otherwise ok. They were the widely available type, that will slip over your prescription glasses if you need them to. All the D-I-Y shops like B&Q have them, usually about £3. These would be ok if using a shot gun, but may be a problem with a tele-sight on a air rifle. They would definitely stop a ricochet though.

Lurcher training, how hard?
Geoff.C replied to markp76's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Most vets are clever people and good at sorting out animal health problems. Now when it come to training and behavior, they generally know diddly-squat. Don't let his "wise words" bother you, just take your time. I am not a lurcher man, but, as with any pup, any initial learning of commands will be done in the house or garden and on the lead. I would expect any of my pups to be coming to me when called, by 3 months. You don't just let a dog off the lead and expect it to come back, unless you have done the basics. There are many good books on training. Just keep sessions short and make it fun. -
Hi panda, welcome to THL. Usually lots going on in the terrier and airgun sections. You should be able to get any help you need.
