Was that an 'all over' waxing, or just a 'brazilian' on the spring Chris? I'm led to believe that it speeds up the action of the trap, and presumably therefore, makes it a better, more humane kill. It also protects the trap from corrosion. Interestingly, I was reading a US site, where the guy says that it makes conibears unsafe because they become too fast! He reckons its no good for water sets because they set 'emselves off!!! Do you wax yours ditch? I'm interested to know if the 'real deals' on here bother, cue GW, Chalky, etc...........
-
Obviously not.... I'm sure messrs Snareman, Woodga etc have shares in whoever produces that stuff... If thats the case, why do the north americans bother with dye and wax? I'm not having a dig at you OTC, just interested.
-
Yep, I've thought about doing it like that Ditch, but I'm led to believe that the North American trappers use a patent trap wax which includes an amount of beeswax, and possibly some other stuff. WD40? On the subject of 'Speed Dip', I was never that keen on using a product which you mixed with petrol. Anyone tried it? I'm an oakbark kinda guy meself...

I have done in the past OTC. I've dealt with the Cumberlands for about 15 years, but I'd rather shop in the UK. Its also an interesting topic for here; how many trappers dye their traps? How many wax them? Not many, I'll bet. I would also be interested in Glens opinion, he has travelled the world studying the ways of the trapper...... If GW thinks its a good idea, I'm sure a few more would dye and wax.

Ummmm, you spray that stinking shite on yer traps and watch yer catch rate fall................
-
That was exactly the reason I asked the question OTC. I couldn't agree with you more. Lets see if a} There is a demand for the product b} Anyone is already selling it in the UK c} Anyone (Magnum?) would bring it into the UK for sale I know that Magnum used to sell 'Speeddip' - but there seems to be a lack of good stuff available over here. We need more of the ancillary trapping products.

Does anyone here use wax for their traps? If so, is there a supplier in the UK?

We used to get bits of hunted deer (red) from time to time, and it was foul! Nothing like the shot deer. Didn't they used to bull bait to 'tenderise' the meat? There's nothing worse than stress to ruin a good carcase IMHO.

I managed to pick up a copy on ebay, and a very good dvd it is..... Well recommended.

Yawn.................... Did you cut n'paste that straight off the BNP site? We've all seen it before!

They thought he'd had a heart attack at first, but H&S are now involved. It was an estate cottage (lions..) and the shit is just about to hit the fan by the sounds of things........... I had never heard of a rayburn causing this either. Makes you think though doesn't it? My advice to anyone with a fire/stove/woodburner is: BUY A DETECTOR. I'm off to get one myself this weekend.
-
Thats a very kind offer Kay. A friend of mine was found dead in his armchair a week ago. They think it was Carbon Monoxide from a knackered old Rayburn. You can't be too careful. Its a silent killer.

Some sound advice from the 'shitter' there. If you need a recommendation for a good local guy, drop me a PM and I'll see if I can help. Whatever happens, take the problem seriously, and get in a genuine pro. The people employed by councils aint always that great; neither are some of the one man bands, or (I'm ashamed to say) some of the nationals. A recommendation goes a long way in this game......................

go onto the pinned section at the top of the main page , and you will see rat snaring by gs waters how to set the benders in detail along with the snares , you will also see good clear pictures of the snaring methods put up by peg and gun, i wouldn,t bother with fishing monofil line as they will bite through it , either use two strands of brass rabbit snare wire , stainless steel , or trace wire , anything that is thin and strong and runs fast. according to matt the rat , thier necks will be broken and therefore will now be able to bit thru anything And according to Moley a rubber ele

Perhaps while you are enjoying your curry/pizza/kebab, after drinking some lager/vodka/brandy you could think about some of the good things that immigrants have done for us, instead of just labelling a large portion of them as terrorists.
-
All terrorists are Muslims? You must be too young to remember the IRA then!
-
And why was Britain at war? What sort of 'posative' action would you suggest? I suppose one idea would be to round up all the people you dont like, who can't prove their british lineage; put them into some sort of ghetto until you decide how you are going to get rid of them??????? Not all Muslims are terrorists, any more than all hunters are racists.

i totely agree something is badley wrong ! this country is f ked the law and the way tony blair and gordon brown have given away are country to imagrants and muslims is a disgrace. my grandfather was one of the dam busters and my girlfrends grandad was killed in the normandy landings, and for what ? england..!! anyone who comes to are country and takes the piss buy trying to hurt us or our children should be hung buy there limbs and burned They also died so that people could live in peace, without fear of prejudice of race, colour, creed or religion. Dont forget that the Nazis persecu

Bloody hell fish, you've carved a piece of bone that looks just like a pound coin! How much are the coins each? lol

You are more than welcome mate! A pleasant couple of hours, with pleasant company. I only wish I could have dragged meself out earlier, and we might have had some really good sport. Has there ever been a poll on here on the favourite net material? Its been a long time since I did any serious ferretting, and I'd forgotten just how shitty those nylon nets are! I rate the spun nylon for purse nets (the orange stuff). Its nice to knit, and doesn't tangle. The colour also helps old duffers like me to find the nets when picking up. I have to admit though, there's nothing like hemp t

A rat on a bender more often than not has a broken neck. As for poisons, yes I've seen some side effects over the years, but the way that anti-coagulants work cause the fine blood vessels in the brain to heamorage first, thereby causing the 'dopey' effect. Imagine one of those rings around yer finger, then try and think of it being around yer neck..... Not nice. I just dont see the need for this device. The modified victor, or a kness, or any of the approved spring traps cause an instant death if set correctly; watching the nooski video put me right off. Would you consider usi

That aint blood Glenn, its tomatoe sauce!! Lets have a 'biggest foot of 2008' thread................... -
As a pro, I can tell you I think its the cruelest thing I've ever seen. How can people think of banning snares while these fecking things are legal? Most right thinking people think that strangulation is cruel. I agree. Nooski? No thanks.
