flushing hare into a gate net..is it legal
salukiman replied to johnnywippet's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
had a thought if you are doing a fair bit of land why not set up your net in a location that can be driven to and use like a beeting line type thing cant see how that can be taken out of context by the plod -
flushing hare into a gate net..is it legal
salukiman replied to johnnywippet's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
a good answer paulis and in theory i think you would be correct, your intentions backed up by your actions ( flushing and net or gun ) but what do you think would happen if when the quarry does a number on you takes a direction you havent acounted for and your dogs persues ,as i think most would .if this was seen a crime ( if you can call it that ) would you be done although you have taken reasonable steps showing you initial intentions i think the old bill would lift you any way -
this in my opinion is purley a money making thing the car that was taken will have to be paid for to be relesed . they are using an unworkable law ( hunting act) to enforce a law that goes way back ( poaching) the esiest way to combat this is to carry your permissin slip with you at all times and make sure that the land your on is yours to lamp . and the land owner is willing to back you we have to come together on this if one gets stopped we all fight back involve as many organisations as possible , solisiters aswell as said allready the longer it takes to sort out the more money it will

i include allbirds into my stockbreaking training , my friends keep chickens and i ferret in places where birds are all the time, no matter the time of year the keepers my way would get pissed off and your dog taking a phessant infront of the farmer when you are there for rabbit control has got to do you no favours

one that knows its job, is obeident marks well and is steady with all stock whats in that dog is the owners preference as a lot of sight hound crosses can and are doing it i think a good ferreting dog is made over time and experence so i would say get what your comftable with and put some real effort into it atb

The law on this states that your dog is allowed to be with you aslong as it is under total controll in the eyes of the law this means on the lead

think a fox will always do what it needs to excape, the fight is a last resort any injury could mean death to an animal that hunts to suvive. when they bolt to ferrets it must have an element of suprise however a ferret obove ground in a calculated attack by an animal that hunts with its brain is simply dead in my opinion.

i think the phrase is used in the wrong context and should aply to the owner and not the dog all lamping dogs do more than that if that was the case you would almost be better walking a bullet on slip

No oan the golf course i think that a rabbit on the golf course is a mistake for the first one. the dog may find it better to spot, but the pace that the rabbit will take off at may just blow any whippets first go away. i would say wait for a while let the corn get cut have a go on rabbits that are in thier first year personaly i went lamping and picked rabbits as far out as possible that were in a small group i left the lamp on untill they started to move off if all of them went the dog remained on slip and i found some more. i did this untill i had one squat. refocused the dogs atte

sounds like your dog got a shock and had another go when he saw you was it his first wouldnt worrie to much see what he does next time if it was his first time i might let him go with back up let his confedence build up again untill you think he is ready might aproach them different more brain less bottle which i think will only help him do it for a longer time period

I was being sarcastic about Penny taylor.I want to read about hard run match dogs, grafting terreirs, and storys from fellas who lamp heaps of rabbits a good few nights a week. not someone who " Dont like to hear that" when a terreir and a fox are mixing it below. as i was told by a fella who went out with her once. i have been out with penny before and plan to a few times this year, she has been a sound reference to go to on all matters conserning dogs. you have to realise that the law has changed and if you like it or not writers of all -publications have to show due dillagence as the -
