  1. I'm new to the sport/ hobby/ trade etc. And think there should be a mandatory minimum level of knowledge for shooting/ hunting/ stalking any animal in UK. Alot of people get this knowledge passed down which is fair enough but this also leaves the gate open for anyone to have a go, and some of those may have no clue. Hunting/ shooting may be further accepted by a general population if a minimal level of knowledge is recognised. But also, mandatory generally means 'it will cost you' which isnt a good thing imo as it then cuts many people out that can't afford the costs. It shouldn't b
  2. I'm all for deer hunting. But looking up deer stalking in the Scottish Highlands im not that sure about. I get that the are a big issue to the landscape and the only reason, now, why trees find it unable to grow. But my idea of deer stalking g is to essentially 'hunt out your own using your skills and knowledge. It seems from what I can gather online that Scotland has commercialised deer hunting which only allows you to deer hunt if you have an pro-stalker accompany you (an employee). Isnt this just paying upto or around £1k for a trophy head? By following some guy around till he finds you a
  3. The mental health link has been removed? Do you have another?
  4. Any gun calender events that happen annually? Any other annual events? For a bystander.
  5. Yeah I completely understand, im not looking to get my fac any time soon, im looking to join a club and take lessons. Just looking into equipt because that's an exciting part of it for me and I want to know what I want, for the budget I have, when the time comes, when I have my fac, and ready to start purchasing equipt. So im doing alot of research and preparation, which explains all my noob questions lol. I'm just eager atm.
  6. Ah so after you get your fac you still can't just buy any gun thats legal in the UK, its dependant on what calibre the local police force will permit to your fac?
  7. Are scope quick to change on a rifle or would that throw the zero out? Say you had one for day and one for night or two zero'd at substantially different distances?
  8. After plenty research into rifles in a price range that ive ended up in (above my initial thought out starting price lol) still plenty of research to do, but, think I am now ready to start looking into scope choices. Can you recommend a scope to suit the mauser m18 or m12 or tikka t3x, for under £1k? Or a few to research? Thanks.
  9. Yeah I'm considering the m18 now but also spotted the M12 which is back up to tikka pricing, so many to choices without shooting any of them. Can you recommend a scope to suit the m18 for under £1k? Or a few to research?
  10. I qas all set on the tikka t3x but still looking around to see whats about. Found this YT video qhere the Mauser M18 hits a strategically placed target from 1mile away. The M18 being a few hundred less than the T3X. Is the tikka still worth the extra few hundred? As an all rounder, target range, foxing, potentially deering. https://youtu.be/S-fcTUmQKXo
  11. Is a 6.5 not too heavy for foxing? I also need to weight up the costs of ammo which I still need to look into. I did hear that .243 ammo is more expensive than .223 which is why I initially looked into .223.
  12. Having a look into Tikka, ive seen the Tikka T3X 6.5 has good reviews. Also hearing budget guns that come with scope generally have poor scopes so I'd be happy to pay more for a tikka like this one and then save for a good quality scope. When looking up Tikka ive spotted Sako, that they are from the same manufacturer but sako has better quality components. So now my dilemma is tikka or sako ?. Also can anyone recommend a good quality scope that holds a good zero with a nice clear window. Thanks.
  13. Daylight initially, night time will probably be my final progression.

    Magazines

Obviously this forum is best but when wanting to read a magazine, Whats your favourite shooting & hunting magazine?
  15. Whwn I say long range, to me its 300-500yards, so maybe not long range in terms or rifle ranges. Just to clarify.
  16. Watched this video so thought the budget would be enough, what would you say I should be spending?
  17. The rifle would be for foxing. And long range target practice (i just like being a sniper lol. Whats a good rifle for foxing then if my budgets too low ill just save more. I thought a modern rifle for that price would do the job? Thanks for your advice though im taking it on board.
  18. Whats peoples opinions on which is the best .223 centrefire rifle & scope kit for £500-1000. I'm interested in long distance shooting overall.
  19. Are the older pre 2000 landrovers a better buy than the post 2000 landrovers when considering cost of repairs? I'll looking to buy one for use in hunting. I will need it for on the road aswell as off road. I'm just thinking is say, a 1989 defender would be cheaper to repair than a newer discovery say 2005+. Also, whats peoples opinions on a 4x4 subject or pick up for on road and off road, when considering cost of repair parts.
