Had a bit of snow near us this morning (started about 9.00) so i decided to take the greyhound bitch for a wander this afternoon. There always seems to be more scent in snow and frost and she went mad scenting about the place !!! On our way round our walk we came across this !!!!! And she seemed a bit interested !!!! All in all an enjoyable walk in the snow !!! All the best Tommy

These dogs that i'm putting pics of in this thread are from when i started out with running dogs. I've never been without lurchers i was born into them !!!! All the best Tommy

The dog was from rochdale but wasn't of Kipper himself it was a mate of his who had these pups, i'm not sure but i think he was called John !!!! Two mates of mine went and fetched these dogs the dog in the picture and an other mate bought a bitch but she never made the grade. Like i say the dog has been a good animal and is still performing pretty well now. All the best Tommy

Just thought i put a picture i drew a few years back now. I always did art when i was a school and have always enjoyed drawing, especially working dogs. Don't do much now as i don't seem to have the time to sit down with the 'old' pencil and paper. Any of you fella's do any artwork ???? Put some pics up !!!!! All the best Tommy

This bitch was the start of the bloodline of dog that i'm running now. She was basically Greyhound/collie/saluki and was a decent enough bitch in her day. The main problem with this bitch was that she seemed to be accident prone and never went without taking bump of cut. She was mated twice and both litters were good, her first litter (back to a saluki/greyhound) produced at least three good dogs and her second (back to a bedlington/greyhound/saluki/whippet) produced two good dogs that we know of. The best trick the bitch did was retrive live to hand and one night out lamping she caught somet

Went out for a run this morning with this dog of my mates !!! The dog is seven years old now and is still running pretty decent. The dog is basically 3/4 saluki 1/4 greyhound and was bought from rochdale. With him having a high percentage of saluki blood he has always been a better 'BIG' land dog and has ran well over the years. The dog only ran one this morning and the ground was pretty hard with frost, but ended the course on a Quite back road !!! All the best Tommy

The dog was as black as the fox is when he first came out of the earth. The earth was on a small stream banking and the whole banking was soaking wet. After allowing the dog a good rag of the carcass he was encouraged to have a swim to clean himself up. And he still needed a good wash down when i got back home. All the best Tommy

Another pic here !! This is a bit more up to date !! This is one of my bitch with an early season single handed hare. This pic was taken in the 2004-2005 season and the bitch killed me a lot of hares that year. Her best performance in that season was 4 from 5 and that was done in the last week of Feb. She's now four years old, but out of action with a broken toe, i can't wait for next season as she will be able to run her again !!! All the best Tommy

I never saw the bitch Irish lady run , but have some video's with dogs bred from her on. These seem to be a mixture of greyhound/irish terrier/saluki and deerhound. I beleive in one of the early Forley Cups a bitch bred from Irish Lady and ran by Paddy Sweeney i think !! also ran well. I've seen a few dogs run hares well that didn't have saluki blood in them (collie crosses and deerhound crosses), but generally the better hare dogs have been the saluki lurchers. All the best Tommy

Another pic from a few years back !!! These two dogs are half sisters (they have the same mother). The bedlinton type bitch was only young here and her catch was the three rabbits. The four hares were caught by the old saluki type bitch. Looking at these old pics brings back some fond memories. All the best Tommy

This is a pic of the terrier that i wrote about in a previous thread !! The terrier is four years old now and went to fox for the first time on the 1st of march 2006. Since then he's bolted three in total and i've had a small dig, of about 18 inch to him. This fox was bolted today and my dad shot it. He took the dog just for the walk as he had a new shotgun that he wanted to fire a few shells through. The permission that he was on is my great uncle's farm/smallholding and holds a fair few fox earths, so it's a handy bit of land now my terriers working fox. My great uncle and the ajoining far

Seen this myself on the news this morning !!! What a set of brain dead twats these people will try and push a *** through the government and then realise that government run organisation like the Police and Military all use dog training collars when training there dogs. Its a bit like tail docking the government are trying to *** it and their own organisation (Police) use Spaniels, which are docked. They will soon change their mind when police dogs are forever smashing there tail up through excesses wagging !!!! All the best Tommy

R 8 fella's !! Baz i'm not from Appleby mate it was a bit of permission we used to have on a golf course up that way. I really like the flat lands (lincs, Norfolk) but have to say it's beautiful country up there in Appleby !!! The old bedlington cross and the old saluki cross both took fox on a pretty regular basis, but my present dogs aren't given access to regular fox work, (my brown bitch has had a few) so they can't be classed as fox takers !!!! I'll try and find a few more old photo's has i've got a few albums full !!! All the best Tommy

This is my current bitch aged 12 months old (she now 4 years old) with one of her first single handed hares. She bred from my dads old lamping strain to a saluki cross dog and has been a real good coursing dog for me !! All the best Tommy

This again is a picture of my dads old saluki cross bitch. She was bred by my dad and was a big factor in me getting into the coursing game. She was bred from my dads old lurcher bitch (greyhound x collie with a bit of saluki basically) back to a real good Saluki lurcher. The dog was from the same village as us and for his time was a real good dog, regulary killing 3 from 3 around Gainsborough etc.. As well as breeding this bitch he was also used on a few other bitches and a few turned out to be decent. This bitch was mainly used as a lamping and ferreting dog as my dad wasn't a big coursing

I haven't had any personal experiance with the Irish terrier cross greyhound but on the Forley Cup 1999 there's one running and for a coursing dog with no 'Saluki' blood it runs well !!! The bloke who i go out with the running dogs with is originally from Ireland, Co Mayo and he says as a kid his dad had a couple of these crosses and he used then for running hares around the farm that they owned. He says they suited the job well as they were great at hunting up and finding their quarry !!! All the best Tommy

Here's another pic from a few years ago !!! It was after an early season lamping trip down in shropshire and the rabbits were a joint effort between my dads old bedlington x bitch and his Weirach Hw80. All the best Tommy

Just trying to put some old pics up now i've got a bit of free time on my hands and a scanner !!!! Just watched the tutorial video and it looked pretty simple, so hear go's fingers crossed !! This pic was taken while ferreting on a golf course at Appleby and the dog is my dads old saluki cross bitch. All the best Tommy

I've used a far few types of bedding and at the moment i'm using oat straw. I prefer oat straw as it doesn't break and becoming as dusty as wheat straw, which can be a real pain. Tried using carpet but it became a pain in winter when the dogs were a bit wet the carpet soon began to smell !!! A women with greyhounds who i know uses shredded paper but the paper has like a plastic coating, as the paper is the same stuff that is used in nappies !!!! One thing i always do with straw though is spray with a good insectisidal spray before putting it down for the dogs just to kill any until bugs an

Don't think you'll get to see Joe fight for the WBC super-middleweight belt as this is 'wrapped up' in germany with Markus Beyer, i think !!! And he would destroy him. There was mention that he might fight a Danish fighter who has the WBA belt, but personally i can't see anyone beating Calzaghe at Super-Middleweight and i've said this for a long time. The options will now come to Calzaghe as he's now the KING of the Division !!!! All the best Tommy

Agree with what you boys have been saying. If your feeding is up to scratch and your dogs are then getting cold in the kennel they will burn their fat content trying to keep warm, causing your dog to lose condition. Through the winter my lurchers are kennelled on Oat straw and there kennel has an electric supply so additional heat (heat lamp) can be applied. When i first got my greyhound bitch, and was new to greyhounds i was given a coat (bed rug)with her. I thought this wasn't needed and didn't kennel the bitch with it on. I soon notiched a change in her condition and she now always wear

R 8 fella, My terrier is 15" and weighs around 18 -20 pound, this i've been told is pretty big ??? I bought my collar of a mate and used my eight foot ferret locator box, but most fieldsports suppliers sell locator equipment. All the best Tommy

Well what a beating !!! I can't call it a fight as it was so one sided !! That just shows and silences all of Calzaghes past doubters that he is a 'real GENUINE' World Champ. When was the last time you saw to world champions get in the ring and one fighter win every round, it was truly great to watch. Well DONE JOE !!!! There was talk in the build up that if Joe won he would move up a weight and fight Clinton Woods, now i'm from the same city as Woods and a few mates train at his gym and in my opinion Calzaghe would make easy work of Woods !! Wales has Joe Calzaghe and England has Ricky H

Well the terrier bug has began to bite !! As i wrote the other day about my terrier going to fox for the first time when it began to snow last night i planned to go for a walk with him this morning. It wasn't an early start, 7.30 and i was going on some rough wood land about twenty mins from my house. There was about an inch of snow on the ground and it was just great to be out and about. This time i had a locator collar on my dog as i had the idea of checking a few earths that i've found when been out with the lurchers. I showed him two earths and he wasn't interested, not even bothering

This could be one of the best world title fights for years. It's always great when boxing brings together to genuine world class fighters, and if this one follows form it should be a real war !!!! Personally i think Calzaghe will win (i'm putting my neck on the line now !!) and have a feeling that he will do it within 8 rounds (lets hope !!). I feel he has a superior punch and better boxing skill (hand speed) and hopefully will get his just rewards and become undisputed Super - Middleweight champ !!! All the best Tommy
